Is the challenge of writing a novel in a month not coming soon enough? Are you itching to get into that novel idea? Don't even have an idea yet? Over at Kiwi Writers we have an array of preparation challenges on the go to help us all put the right word forward come November 1. Enjoy!

Preliminary Projects for NaNo-ites
Write five 1,000 word length pieces of flash fiction by the 28th of October to warm up your writing fingers and dive into your story's universe.

Find the Idea
Sign up for NaNoWriMo and find that idea by the 7th of October.

Anchor It
Anchor yourself firmly in your idea by identifying your protagonist, antagonist, conflict lock and central question in the second week of October.

Road Signs
Build six road signs in the third week of October to keep you racing from scene to scene during the fervor of NaNoWriMo.

Back Story
Write 5,000 words in the last 10 days of October to create some back story and juicy secrets you can weave into your novel.

Yes! Thanks ever so much, now the internal struggle to write (coupled with the fear of being caught out unprepared when November rolls along) might just step down a little. =D

Guys, as well as doing the challenges, you should sign up, accept the challenge and put your progress in. That way we can all see what's going on. That would be awesome to see all the progress going up and up, even before November rolls around :-)

This sounds like a great way to prepare for NaNo. I'm game. Plus, it just seems like a great forum site even NaNo is not going on. Thanks for sharing.

These are wonderful. I feel at least a little more at ease just knowing some of this.

Ooo... wonderful! I really like some of these ideas... especially the one about the road signs. I have a feeling that one would help me a lot. I participated in my first NaNo last year, and really I was just concerned with forcing myself across the finish line. This year, since I met the goal last year and know I am capable of doing it, I'm not so intimidated by that whole "50,000 words" scary monster. As a result, I'm trying to spend the month focusing on ways to be super-prepared in order to streamline the writing process for myself over all. I wouldn't have thought of some of these on my own, so thank you.

Good idea, I'm definitely going to do the first one. I have a very, very vague idea of what I'm going to write this year, hopefully this will help me. Plus, I haven't written anything in AGES, and I'm excited to get started again, so why wait until November? :)

I like these, they're more open-ended and interesting than warm-up writing prompts. I'm going to sign up and get started. :)
