Hello and welcome, one again, to NaNoWriMo 2007.

We have a few newbies joining us this year, how exciting!

For those of you who don't know me...

I'm Vicky, I'm the ML for this region alongside Starlakid. This will be my third year doing NaNo.

I've managed to sort out a private room for write-ins this year. These will be held upstairs at Bar Lisi every Wednesday evening during November. I will be there from 6pm, and the room has been booked until 9pm. I hope you'll all be able to attend one or two of these.

As always, feel free to send me a NaNoMail, get in contact any way you wish, and if you have MSN or Facebook and want me to add you to either of those places so you can get in touch that way, just let me know.

Vicky

ah another year of NaNo what joy ^_^

May as introduce myself now rather than forget throughout NaNo and join this forum 2 weeks before NaNo finishes like last time ¬_¬

I'm Adam, joined NaNo last year with the novel Paradise Province, fantasy genre. Reached 32k words when NaNo finished and after a year reaching around 40k. Life has gotten hectic since then and so projects have been postponed. Obviously if you live in the derby area you may spot me around in the new Westfield centre as I now have a part-time job as a stockroom assistant for Next.

And well tomorrow is the opening day ;)

Anyways that is moi and this year I will be working on The Arena, also fantasy and somewhat inspired by the film gladiator :P

Hello,

Yes. I'm the other ML. I, along with Vicky, will show up to write-ins possibly wearing a hideous yellow t-shirt saying 'I'm in charge'. It doesn't really mean anything except that we'll be the ones who've drunk the most caffeine and written the least.

I will also be providing you with a daily post here on the regional forum to chivvy you along when you're feeling despondent. I can give you some ideas when you can't think of how to kill your characters, provide names, locations and plots if you're in need of inspiration and, if you send me a list of all the people in your story, I will provide random pairings in order for you to rev things up a bit in the romance department. (sex, race and species are no obstacles to love, people).

Ask if you need anything - even if it's just a bit of a natter.

love

Where is Bar Lisi?

I'm from Ches-Vegas :)

It's pretty cool that we have a derbyshire chapter. Oh yes.

Oh yeah, I'm a n00b. Call me Adam.

Ches Vegas? Sounds intriguing.

Bar Lisi, apparently is on Sadler Gate. Welcome to the madhouse Adam. You'll never leave. Unless you run screaming.

Hello Adam and Adam

Bar Lisi is on Sadler Gate. The street that leads away from the Waterfall in the Market Square, with, I think, Lloyds TSB on the corner of it. Past the Big Blue Coffee Shop until you're nearly at the opposite end of Sadler Gate and it's on your left. I think, I posted a map link in another thread.

Sorry for the belated welcome, had to nip in hospital for a minor op, on the way to recovery now though. Anyone going to Homegrown on the 18th, come buy some books from me :D

p.s. the staff at Bar Lisi know us, so just ask them to point you up the right staircase.

Hi, I'm Lisa. This is my first time here doing NaNo. I've no idea where Bar Lisi is no matter how many times you explain ;) but then I don't think I've ever gone into Derby (if that's where it is!) I live over near Clay Cross/Chesterfield way. I can guarantee I won't be able to attend any of the evenings unfortunately as I'm 8 months pregnant and due on the 8th November :D (hoping it arrives before then... like NOW for example... *waits for a second to see if the baby has listened*.... sigh, no such luck!)

I'd never heard of NaNo until I saw a post about it on Pownce and thought I'd check it out, looks fascinating and I'm definitely up for the challenge since I enjoy writing so much!

Enough about me for the moment, I need to go stop burning dinner! :)

Oh lisa lisa lisa,

I thought I'd won on the being busy in november competition, but you, my bonkers friend, win hands down.

I bet you still write more than me!
Don't worry about getting to write ins. You can keep me company online!

I sense Adam is a common name. I had a nextdoor neighbour 2 years younger than me named Adam lol and congratz Lisa ^^

As to Bar Lisi. I haven't been there or heard of it but I am familiar with Saddler Gate (If you know Blue Note, you know Saddler Gate :P Same with the Old Bell as well) but yeah if you don't live near the town centre or visit the town centre often then you won't know where or how to get there. Then again the way I have been working at my new job these past few weeks, I doubt I would be capable of getting to any write-ins and if I do it will probably just to chill out and chat to others as my handwriting is awful :P

I'm a PC wiz born in a modern tech world, but yeah see how things go and if I am bullied into working late shifts :P

Hi everyone!

I don't actually live in Derbyshire now, but I grew up there and my family are all still in Belper, so I thought I'd join and say hello to the home crowd :) Plus if I completely lose my mind from novel stress in November, I might just come up and stay with my gran for a week, and pop along to a meet ...

Due on the 8th November? Hope it all goes well and that you quickly learn the art of feeding whilst typing away on the computer. It's a good skill to have.

My first year doing NaNo, my daughter was 4 months old, she was a good bairn and managed to get to the 50k mark ok. I don't know if I'd have considered it when I was due though, so kudos.

Hey, the write-ins aren't obligatory, but if you can get to any then fantastic! The forum may seem a little devoid of people planning to attend them, but there should be plenty of people about if you ever want to pop by and have a debrief, cocktail, or whatever.

I am back for more this year. I'm probably going to be busy at work, and may not match last year's word count, but I think I should still be able to make the finishing line.

I live in Belper, work in Sheffield, and tend to consider myself part of the Nottingham group for Nano, but I'll try to make it to the warm-up next weekend. I doubt I can make the write-ins unless I can get some time off work.

I was considering trying to arrange at least one meet in Sheffield this year. I expect I'll move closer to work before the next Nano - I came close a few times this year, thanks largely to Central Trains - which will make the Derby and Nottingham meets more difficult to get to. It looks as though I'm likely to be too busy this time, though.

This aught to be fun.

Hi. I moved to Derby at the beginning of the year to take up a junior web designer at a company on Pride Park. A friend in Brighton (Kaliopæ) told me to enter this last year, and I refused because I saw how insane the prospect was. Since then I think my brain's been damaged, because now I'm here BECAUSE of how insane it is.

So far, random conversations with friends are encouraging me down the Steampunk route. So wish me luck for my first NaNo. In between I have work, living on my own (unfortunately I *need* to do my own dishes this year...) and trying to get my motorcycle license to deal with this year.

WAAAA!!0_0
Hi all!*^^*
Sorry for the freak out moment. I'm increadibly shy and can't spell worth my soul.*blush* But I love writing anyways, (and I don't care if that's a word or not) Well, just to warn you and apologize in advance, when I start talking, I don't stop till I make my point clear. Also when I get started, I spill what's on my mind...and I mean ALL of it *hehheh*^_^;;...of course I regret it later but, well, that's that.*sigh*
So how are you all over sea's?! XD
Hope we'll all get to see mega-awesome stuff! I love reading as much as I do writing!*^^*

"And... why do you want your new case NOW instead of on your birthday?"
"So I can get it up and running for November 1st."
"Why do you need it running for then?"
"Nanowrimo."
"What?"
"Nanowrimo. I missed it last year by a couple of weeks and my laptop's dead, so I need to finish my new PC so I can do it."
"...Nano-what?"

Yeah, so that's how the conversation started on Nanowrimo. A friend on livejournal introduced me to it with a few of her posts, and I've decided to join in this year. I have a few ideas for novels, but I'm shelving them because it wouldn't do them justice to blitz them in a month.

Oh dear, I've neglected the usual stuff. I'm Allan, living in Marehay, Ripley. About ten minutes outside of Derby by car. North of it, I think. *doesn't drive*. Eighteen and finding new ways to use my extra time that was otherwise taken up with college work this time last year. Working a dodgy job at Midlands Co-Op (Come visit me on Maple Avenue. : D Actually, if you have any sense you'll be enjoying a lazy morning.), and a complete technophile. I /would/ like to build PCs for a living, but one must start at the bottom, right?

As much as I would like to join in with the Write-Ins, I work Wednesday evenings. However, I will do my utmost to get the latter half of the month shifted to another shift so I can make it.

So that's me. Oh, and before I forget, I will post up the occasional preview on my livejournal. They will be up at http://albowsmit.livejournal.com, and I will ensure that they are all tagged with 'nanowrimo07' for filtering purposes.

EDIT: Nearly forgot to tell. The Novel I'm writing is called 'War Torn', and is a backstory to one of my characters being used in a text-based RP, how his Father's death in a fictional World War almost moulded him into what he is in the RP.

KaynSlamdyke, Laura and Allan. A warm welcome to the three of you. Glad to see yet more newbies announcing their existance.

Slight update to explain my absence for this run up to NaNo. I've had my op, wound healing ok, so there should be no having to cancel/cut short write-ins due to illness this year, yay!

I'm helping set up a new writing group things (for the writing group Derby Scribes [still wondering where my wrimo's from the writing group are])

trying to write 2 short stories for a couple of submissions

generally taking on more than I should ;)

panicking every time I think of writing 50k this year

lost the ability to spell, on plus side my inner editor is locked up early this year

Indeed; shouldn't there be a few more? Like... in the region of 75+? Unless this is all included from last year as well. o.o

Regardless, so long as there are no complications, that's what matters.

I have to admit though, 50k words does sound a little daunting, but I know that so long as we all put in the time, it can be done. But, therein lies half the problem, right?

Btw, it looks like I might be able to get to all four of them; one of my workmates is willing to trade shifts with me for the month of November.

Excellent, will be great to meet you. There should be a good turn out to the write-ins this year.

I managed to hit the 50k mark with no problem the last two years, albeit at the last minute. I'm sure I can do it this year too. Will just have to take my laptop with me to the writing retreat and type away every spare minute there if I fall a little behind.

Hello, I'm Jane. Back for a second attempt.

I'm going to try and get out a collection of short stories, because I'm not a longwinded person. I reckon I'm going to nheed to churn out at least 60 short stories to hit 50k, though...

Glad to see you back Jane!

Of course by a collection of short stories, you mean interconnected long chapters which could be perceived as a novel, not actually that you are writing several shor stories until you hit the 50k mark ;-)

I managed the art of feeding while at the keyboard with my first 6 years ago :)... I spend the majority of my day in front of the pc as I design vbulletin forum styles for my "pocket money" or writing in online writing groups... so writing and children kinda go hand in hand with me :)

Haven't ever tried this before though! I'm kinda hoping the baby comes early! She certainly feels like she's ready to arrive at any time!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you x Both of mine waited until the night before I was due in to be induced. The first time my waters broke halfway through a program I was really enjoying. The second when I was halfway through Harry Potter.

Just thought I'd finally check in.
My name is Chris and I have attempted NaNoWriMo four, count them, four times previous. I have however never finished my best effort being 35K one year. :(

Around 2003 / 2004 etc I was a ML for the Nottingham group (before there was a specific Derby group) and attended the first meet up at Cafe Nero the year the Derby group started.

This year though I've had some articles published and paid for and so have the impetus now to try and finally beat this bloody 50K target.

*fingers crossed*

I shall attend as many meetings as possible but couldn't make it on Sunday though unfortunately, already had plans with my granddads birthday.

Hope to see you all soon.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi I'm Debbie, I tried NaNoWriMo in 2004 but failed due to school - annoying A-levels.

I'm trying again this year, despite having Uni, a part time job, and several assignments {I'm kind of hoping that writing 50, 000 words for this will make my 4,000 word essays seem easier :$} I've joined this region as well as Manchester (because the parents live in Derby), but because I'm living / studying in Manchester I probably won't be able to make most of the Derby meetings. (The trauma of having early morning lectures:( ) This is a shame since I know where the bar is.

Hi all! I figured I'd introduce myself :)

I'm Kayleigh and this is pretty much my first NaNoWriMo - I joined last year because I was pressured into it but didn't actually write anything! I'm planning on writing a children's version of the comic story I've been planning for the last two years, which currently has the title of "BGN" and involves a lot of robots.

I'll be able to attend the write-ins since they'll be just around the corner from work. Nobody would object to me bringing a mate along at all, would they? I think she'd like the opportunity to do a little bit of location drawing.

According to the calendar, you just RSVP on that date and tell them you're bringing along one guest. So long as she doesn't disturb, which by the sounds of things she won't, then there's nothing stopping her coming along.
