Hi all,

Just peeking out to say g'day to everyone in Darwin :). This is my first Nano, though I've done a bit of writing over the years. Is anyone here part of a local writing group?

Looks like it's just us two for now, there's heaps of us out there - I have 20 people from my work alone doing NaNo... they're just not interested in the forums or being online with it :(

I'm a part of the NT Writers Centre which is based at Frogs Hollow in the city, and tomorrow I'm going to the writing workshop with Sally Heinrich but that's about it ^^ I mostly write with my friends online.

Welcome to NaNo! I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time :) This is my forth attempt and hopefully my forth success, and my third as municipal liaison :)

Cool, sounds like you have a lot of frustrated writers at work! Unfortunately, I'm the lone wolf where I work, as far as writing goes. A good friend of mine did Nano the last couple of years, but she's recently sold a book or two, so I'm not sure if she's taking part this year - she's a bit hard to get hold of these days!

I actually dropped in at the Writer's Centre to join up on the way home from work , but I think they were at lunch. Not to worry, will catch them next week.

Oh wow, a published friend! That's very impressive indeed ^^ All my friends and I are still trying to get things to a stage of where we're proud enough to say we're the one who wrote it lol

I think you can join the Writers Centre over the phone? That's how I joined up :) There's only two of them there at the most so whenever I drop in I ring ahead to make sure they're actually there - they're lovely people though, so they make it worth it :)

Hi Everyone,

I'm a long term local who's been involved in the arts scene here for years, though I don't perform anymore.

This is my second go at this. I first did it about 7 years ago & really enjoyed the experience.
Unfortunately a software glitch ate it so time for another masterpiece lol!

Glad to see there's more Darwinites than last time.

May I suggest that you sign up to a site such as livejournal and post your novel there? It's an online blogging site where you can post entries as if it's a journal. Then you have no chance of losing it :)

Hi all, I joined up last year, but didn't get past about 2500 words. I am going to go hard again this year - just as soon as I shake this pesky flu!

If you know of anyone else who's hidding please encourage them to come here and post :D I have a group of 25 people who refuse to come online other than to update their word counts (they say they're too old and don't need the forums) but I think I'm slowly convincing a few of the braver ones to show their faces here :)

Funny was thinking same same thing.

Told a poet mate of mine about NaNo the other day & just sent him the link.He just won a poetry comp here & is off to the national final in Sydney soon. (Will always promote my friends shamelessly so it's Noodle if anyone knows him.)

When I first discovered NaNo there was no one from Darwin on here (wish I could remember which year) so this is a huge improvement.

The more the merrier I say. Darwin's a creative place & the more that it flourishes the better. Gotta do something anyway in Mango Madness Month! Plus it's not as if there isn't plenty to write about in this place what with politics, war, crocodiles, drinking, the wet & all the other crazy stuff that makes up this unique part of this world.

Hope it picks up too so we can have a social occasion somewhere along the way. Any excuse for a get together in Darwin really!

That would be fantastic - who's interested in a get together?

Would we like to go somewhere we can write? A word war is a fantastic way to get words out there and on the page (or on the screen) where we set a timer (usually for half an hour) and just WRITE. The person who writes the most words in that half hour wins a nifty little something :)

Of course, then it's harder to find a place that doesn't mind us chatting and also has a place for people with laptops... hmm. Is it sad that the airport might be a good place to meet? =p

It's open for suggestions people! Who'd like to meet up and where could we meet up? :)

As Municipal Liaison I should have some stickers to give out (if the parcel arrives soon... yay for living remotely) that should inspire some more writing in us all :D
