Hello! I'm here!

My name is Trish, I started a novel in July (which I nominated as my own NaNoWri month) and got to 26,500 words before I stalled. In the time since I have been reading books on how to write a novel (character and plot development, mostly). I think I'm ready to give it another try in November, starting from scratch but with a pretty good idea of where I want it to go. It may well stall after three weeks like the last one did, and it may turn out to be complete crap, but I enjoyed the writing while it was happening and I'm looking forward to supporting (and being supported by) fellow NaNoWriMo writers, particularly those of you who are writing a 'chick lit' story.

Glad to meet you! I'll be back throughout October to see who else has signed up!

Thought I'd say hi as well! I'm not doing chick lit this year, so I hope I'm not considered some kind of imposter for being here! I had great fun on this forum last year and I don't want to just forget about you all!

So yeah, hi. *waves* I wrote my second chick lit novel for NaNo last year, but this year I'm doing young adult instead (it is young adult chick lit though!)

Good luck to everyone with their novels!

*waves* Hi, I'm new, this is my first nano. I'm not sure if my novel exactly qualifies as chicklit, but it's the closest genre I could think of. It's going to be basically me rambling on from the POV of my badass alter-ego, Gracie. Her friends are loosely based on some of my friends. It's a Bridget Jones-y kind of thing, so that's why I figured chick lit, although it's not necessarily going to be romance-based; it's probably going to feature more ethnic and Pagan themes. So I'm not sure exactly what genre to put it in, but what the heck, it's my first try!

Excited to meet all of you...!

Hi! I'm new to this board. To be completely honest, I'm a bit terrified to use the "chick lit" tag. The majority of what I read and enjoy would definitely fit into either the "fantasy/sci-fi" or "literary fiction" category. And my general impression of most of the chick-lit out there is that while some of it is very good literature, most of it isn't much more than glorified romance that managed to escape the fate of the Harlequin novel. (I suspect I am very wrong about this, but the unfortunate thing about most ingrained prejudice is that it isn't based in reality.)

But my novel this year is a semi-autobiographical account of betrayal, marriage, and the end of romance. And even I can't delude myself into thinking that I can label that "literary fiction" and get away with it. So here I am. I hope to learn to embrace this genre and love it, rather than feeling slightly icky about betraying my beloved literary fiction (even if my few meager attempts at writing it have been less than stellar). I look forward to getting to know you all!

Chick lit this year. Ha. I love doing new things and I haven't really written anything in the genre.
I'd love advice to those who are willing to give.

My name's Rita. I'm a graduating uni student of History with a minor in Literature. I did nanowrimo last year, Historical fiction, but I only reached up till 20k so this year, i am soooo planning on making it to the end :) wish me luck.

Hi all!

This is my first nano too, I'm kind of excited. Everything I write tends to be chick lit, which is weird, because I don't particularly like to read chick lit.

I'm Emalyn (my name is original, isn't it?), English/Women's Studies major in upstate New York, but I'm doing the Disney College Program right now, which basically means I work too many hours at Disney World for slave wages.

Greetings - I registered under the mystery suspense genre, but everything I writeis steeped in my life: feminist, women focuses, mother of a daughter and so on.
I'm an older author (44) and shocked that the catagories made this seem like a young persons thing.
So hello. I am the old, greying woman who still runs 3 miles a day and easily writes 7 pages.
Oh, why does everyone use a handle, and not their real name?

Hey everyone! I'm back again this year to give this another go. Didn't quite make it last time, but I was more productive than I had/have ever been.

A couple of people above asked for advice. I have none to give, since I'm struggling through this like anyone else, but I do have an excellent book to recommend that may jumpstart you in this genre:
See Jane Write: A Girl's Guide to Writing Chick Lit by Sarah Mlynowski and Farrin Jacobs (http://www.amazon.com/See-Jane-Write-Girls-Writing/dp/1594741158/ref=sr_...)

Why a handle and not a real name, Jennifer? I'm naturally paranoid of all things public and internet, I guess. Plus, it just makes me feel like a secret spy or something.

*waves to everyone*

I am definitely doing chick lit. It might be in a different vein (fantasy or mystery, probably) - but at its core, it will be chick lit, I can't deny it :D I figure, when I'm going on a plane or a train, all I want to read is chick lit - and it's something that wont' require hardcore research and will (hopefully) be fun!

I think mine falls into the ChickLit genre.....

My name is Adina, and this is the first time around for me. :)

Sort of excited, sort of well, um, terrified. Haven't written seriously since high school - looong drawn out overemo high school crap, and I am wondering if I can still do it.

Guess we will find out, hmm?

Hi, everyone. This is my first time really attempting NaNo. I sat down last year and tried to come up with an idea, but when November started looming closer, I looked at what I had planned and realized that I didn't like it at all. It was too late to try to plan something else, and I didn't feel I'd do very well simply winging it.

This year, however, I've had an idea for several months now that I hadn't sat down to think out. I didn't even think to use it as a NaNo story until I saw a livejournal entry on the friends page of one of my friends.

This will also be my first time attempting Chick Lit; at least I think that's what I'm writing. I read fantasy and I love it, but I really think I'd be better at writing Chick Lit. Does that make sense?

A few years ago, I was trying to write a fantasy story, and I was really going at it. I was writing like crazy, and one day I decided to go back and read my work from the beginning. I realized that I had basically written a Final Fantasy rip-off. So, I think maybe I'd be better at writing a genre I'm not so familiar with. I want to write a story that could happen in real life that involves realistic characters and occurrences.

My fifth year doing nano and yet again I'm doing chick lit. This time it'll be like year one where I had no idea what I was going to write until November 1 (I'll hopefully have a rough sketch). This year, it'll be a just for the fun of it thing, because I'm busy shopping around my "real" novel, as well as editing last years nano novel (has great potential).

Why a handle instead of my real name? Because having an alias is rather glamourous. Plus, if my novel excerpt sucks, do I really want my natural-born name attached to that thing?

LOL, it's cute, huh?

I totally forgot to introduce myself, wow, airhead moment.

Ok, My name is Brandy, I'm 26. I just got married 2 weeks ago. My hubby is a Captain in the Army (hence the name) and we just got stationed here a few months ago. We bought our first house together, and it's been a real adventure getting things normal. We have 2 chihuahuas, Bruiser is the one in my signature picture. Deuce, our other one looks like a min-pin.

I have never done NaNoWriMo before. I am really excited to get started. In fact, I've never written anything big, but I love to write. And read. I hope I can win! I like the idea that there's no real competition, it's basically challenging yourself!

I'm thinking of ways to get started. I wonder how well I'll do just flying by the seat of my pants.
What a weird saying. How do you think they came up with that one?
And who are "they"?
LOL, no more coffee late at night for me!

This is my first attempt at NanoWriMo. I have been practicing thought. I did a 46000 word novel last month and I am over 10000 words for this month's attempt which I am entering in a contest if I finish by the end of this month. Anyone know of any good contests coming up?.

I've had this story dancing around in my head since I was a sophomore in high school. I've started several drafts over the years, and have always gotten so caught up in the nitpicky editing as I go along that I never end up really going anywhere. I just finished college in May, so I'm thinking it's about time to let this story stop doing the cha cha in my brain and start actually being something. So I'm starting from scratch! New plotline, new outlook, new everything. I'm hoping it goes well.

At any rate, it centers around her woman, and includes her romance and drama and the like, so I'm fairly positive it falls into this genre. I completely lose at coming up with titles, so I'll have to figure out out as I go along.

So here I am, getting all geared up for another year of NaNoWriMo!

I heard about it last year but halfway through the middle of the month and I think, if I remember correctly.. I got exactly 734 words written. Severely disorganized and just the wrong time I guess, but I'm back with the goal to write, write, write this year and meet that 50,000 word goal.

I normally write fantasy but while sitting down and going through the options of stories I could write this year I came across an assignment my Creative Writing teacher gave me in college a couple years back. The exercise was to take our 'Creative Selves' out on a date and write about it. Since that time I've gone back to this assignment and done several 'dates' with my Creative Self... in fact I've gotten to know her pretty well.

How exactly will I turn this into a novel... well. that's what this month is for - but what few notes I've managed to jot down have led me to believe that it'll fall right here in the Chick Lit category so voila, here I am!

A few quick notes about me:
-- I'll be 21 by the time NaNo rolls around
-- I live in the Canadian Rockies and -LOVE- it
-- I'm getting married next June!
-- I have an intense fear of llamas.

Hi all! I'm new to the chick-lit genre (writing and even reading....I honestly don't believe I've ever read chick-lit, but I may have...masked under some other sub-genre?!), but I think that's where my Muse is draggging me (kicking and screaming). I'm a little worried...! :) I'm much more comfortable in sci-fi/fantasy and/or young adult, but I've tried my hand in other genres as well.

Let's see...intro....my name's Erica and I'm 33 and I've done Nano twice before. I haven't been here since 2004 and, boy, have things changed!!! Married with no kids, but 2 cats (much more psychotic than kids) and as of late, I've been bouncing around the creative field to include knitting (illusion knitting is my favourite so far!) and ATCs (Artist Trading Cards). I'm a hardcore Browncoat/Firefly-fan and my husband indulges my obsessions with patience and humour. It's nice, being that Nano '03 nearly killed him and he still doesn't understand my fascination with the Harry Potter 'verse, either.

So, here's to a new Nano and a new genre (at least for me)! Good luck, everybody!!!

Howdy!

This year I am writing something personal. And it just so happens to be chick-lit. Out of the 10th anniversary of something that happened to me I kinda' want to write (and stay with me here because it can happen) a lighthearted funny quasi-breast cancer novel. I want to write a multi-generational story about how women are always at war or doubt of their bodies and how... think about it. It's totally pointless.

Vital stats:
-Kim
-26
-lost 20lbs since script frenzy! Kinda' by accident too... best diet tip: live far enough away from fast food places that it's a pain in the tush to drive there (20 minutes or more does it) and you actually have to cook. That and a 4 lab/golden retriver puppy... Dude I run/walk her about 2 miles a day and it still doesn't wear her out!

Hi everyone!

I'm actually writing historical/romance fiction this year, but because I was utterly *glued* to the chick lit forum last year, I couldn't resist coming by and saying hi :-) Am I still welcome? *puppy dog eyes* Haha.

Actually, I have a chick lit plot down on paper that I'm definitely going to use as my back up if my historical one falls through - I'm determined not to fail! If I finish my historical one early, I'll head straight on into the chick lit one, or I may even write it as an escape when the hist fic is driving me insane! Might as well use November up as much as possible!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Okay everyone, hi, I'm Laura, I have always wrote what I consider chick lit, young chick lit. I usually base stuff on reality and then take it in a direction that I wish it would have gone. Is that wrong? LOL

I am making my second attempt at Nano... last year mid Nov I got so sick that I spent a week in bed. However I did break 25k so I figure that's good. Last year I went with my chick/horror lit route. Vampire love story. It didn't work but hey I did have to stop for over a week due to being sick.

This year I am going for a story based somewhat on me, but then moving it into a direction that is not my life. Basically it starts out a woman who is now divorced (truth) moves to a new town, not knowing anyone (truth) and the adventures in love and work (truth) but what those adventures in love will be the fiction.

Wish me luck and I wish all of you luck!

Laura
