i'm not sure whether my novel belongs under this genre, but it's the closest one. in summary:
a spy becomes a marked man when he accidentally discovers a top-secret government project. he must find out why this project is worth murder, and try to clear his name if he can.
do you think this goes under mystery/suspense, or should it go under other?
thanks!

It sounds like solving a mystery is a major part of your novel and that there will also be an element of suspense. I think it works here.
If "Mystery & Suspense" just feels like the wrong fit, I think it could also work in Mainstream Fiction and, possibly, Adventure.

i thought about it a little more (and asked my mom; she reads a lot of different genres, so she was a big help!), so i'm sticking to mystery/suspense. i thought it might fit into adventure, too, but you're right--it does have a lot of suspense and mystery solving, so thank you so much for your help!

Spy novels are often classified as suspense. I'm judging mystery/suspense for a writing contest and there is a spy novel or two in my big "to be judged" pile (which has to be finished mid-October). So, yes, this is a good place for a spy thriller.

If you ratchet-up the heart rate, like in The Firm for instance, in could be in the thriller/suspense genre, too.
