This topic sort of does a double-duty. I've noticed the other major FanFic thread seems to be about recent/current fandoms and the writers seem young, to me. So I thought we who write about old tv shows, as well as writers of an age somewhere beyond the teen years might like to step to the side and chat.
Me? In my forties. I've written mostly about the Skiffy network's The Invisible Man, a little CSI, Stingray (Nick Mancuso? Anybody out there?), and The Wild Wild West. I've even tried a little Mission Impossible (yes, there was actually a television series by that name - no resemblance whatsoever to Tom Cruise's *may he rot* movies) As I am currently idea-less, there is always a chance I'll go this year with a WWW novel I've been promising the WWW board for my NaNovel.
So, any heretofore intimidated fanficers want to jump in?

Well at 26, I'm not thinking of myself as "older", but I'm not in the teen/new 20s crowd either. And I'm not intimidated ;-) But here's hoping more people join with you!
Good luck with NaNo!

I'm probably not the older that you expected, being only 24, but I have 13 years of writing experience under my belt. XD That has to count for something!
I am technically writing in an older anime though. My novel is going to take place in the original Gundam universe 'Universal Century' (Mobile Suit Gundam - 0079, 0080, 0083, etc), which first aired in the late seventies. It should be fun since I miss a lot of the old concepts. (Yay for NewTypes!)

At twenty, I'm definitely just a baby, but I've been writing fanfiction for ten years now, which is why this thread's title caught my eye. Needless to say, much of my early works are rather embarrassing. Incidentally, they're for an older television show: M*A*S*H.
It's been a long time since I wrote in the fandom, but one of my NaNo ideas is also a M*A*S*H fic, a sort of post-war story about Margaret Houlihan. It's not the idea that's in the forefront of my mind, but who knows? It's early still, so perhaps I will end up going with it after all.

I've been writing fanfiction for a while. I actually started out with Star Wars in my teens way back in the early eighties, but now I've been writing stuff for various animes/mangas. I'm 36 which is oldiesh, but not too old. I think it's cool that there are people with some age in fanfic writing because then I don't feel so weird.
I'm not writing one this year since I have three I need to finish now, but a lot of the animes I've watched are going to affect the story I have in mind.

I'm in my early 40's and, despite having a perfectly good, MG, fantasy plot in mind, I had this fan fiction idea, ...
I'm a rabid Nascar fan and I sometime read Nascar fan fiction -- mainly to laugh at how absurd most of it is. And I got this "I can write a better Nascar romance story than that," sort of feeling.
I don't know what idea I'm likely to go with but a Nascar romance is a possibility.

Having just mourned, er, celebrated my 40th this week, and being primarily a fanfiction writer, add me to the list! :)
I've written Star Wars, HP and Neverwinter Nights fics that have seen the light of day (on the net, anyways) as well as loads of Tolkien-based stuff that is not fit for public consumption
This year I'm working on a Vampire: the Masquerade (old World of Darkness, not new) fanfiction, and from the plot twists that are lurking in my head, 50k shouldn't be too hard to pull off!

I've been writing fanfiction for six years now and I'll definitely be doing it for my NaNo project. I don't know if Petshop of Horrors counts as an old fandom or not... the original Japanese series finished in 1998, but it wasn't finished here in the states until January 2005. *shrug* Still. I think being 34 qualifies me in the 'older' category. lol

For NaNo this year I am going to be writing in my newest fandom, so it should be heaps of fun and discovery! XD
I'm really loving that there are THREE whole threads dedicated entirely to fanfic. It rocks my socks off.

Well I fall in to the older writers camp if not the older fanfic one. :)
I'm 33 and have been writing fic (nano and otherwise) since my first nano attempt in 2003, I'm hoping that this year breaks a rather distressing run of not getting anywhere near 50,000 words, that has stretched since my second attempt in 2004.
Every attempt so far has been HP fanfic and I see no reason to change tack now!

I'm 22 and I've been reading and writing fanfiction for the past 12 years. I still write for some of the older fandoms, but they're always for cartoons even though when I was in elementary school my favorite shows were Growing Pains and Full House and I didn't watch many cartoons. Most of my older stuff has never been posted anywhere though, except for Hey Arnold (1996).

I, too, probably not what you were expecting when you said older, because I'm twenty four, but some times it seems like most fanficers these days are teenagers. I was originally going to do something in the relm of general fic... but now seeing that there are some people doing fanfiction I’m leaning towards it.
If I do what I have in mind, it would take place in the Star Trek universe, but with original characters... not a cannon character in sight, and I’ve always felt that wasn't quite the same as fanfiction anyway.

I'm not exactly "older", being of 24 years, but I enjoy fandoms of older anime. I've been writing fanfiction since the days when the Sailor Moon fandom wasn't so huge (and I promise my writing has improved a lot since I was 15, ugh). My fanfic this year dabbles in my favorite fandom, Galaxy Express 999. Or rather, what we fans call the "Leijiverse", since it encompasses many stories that don't share the same title as GE999. Sure, it's a fandom that began before I was born, but it's huge in my heart.

I'm 39, and I've written tons of fanfic, mostly older anime (and FFVIII), and very little that anybody besides my cat has seen. I have NO idea what I'm writing for nanowrimo, as this is my first time out and I've only got like a dozen ideas, so fanfic's not entirely out of the question.

Thank goodness for this thread. I took a glance in the other one and was pretty much horrified at the age and, erm, the topics of the people in there. Oh the grammar... *shudder*
I won't be doing a fanfic this year, but it's been a large part of my life since I was six. I'm very passionate about fanfic, and quite disturbed at a lot of what's out there for fanfic nowadays.
It's been a while since I've written fanfic, but when I was younger I enjoyed writing about Star Wars, Lois & Clark, Due South, Adam-12, (the original) BG, and my absolute favorite to write about was Emergency! . It's still one of my favorite shows!

I'm twenty seven and writing fanfiction this time. I've started an original novel, but I'd rather not rush it. So I'm going to write an AU Harry Potter fanfiction this year, about a Ministry Hit Wizard. I have the world pretty much handed to me, though I've edited and changed much of it. I have a cast of nearly fifty important characters so far and I think I need more then a month to write out everything I have plotted out. >.<'
I need to stop overachieving. If I fail at that I can always fall back on my alternative plan of 50k of smut. But that's only if I have only 10k of words halfway through the month. Which, fingers crossed, won't happen.

Hey!! Let's define "older" here!!! I vote for "older" being anyone over the age of 90!
And being half that age, it makes me...um, "younger"!!
I've done some Dark Shadows fanfic before, as well as toyed with some Riverworld fanfic. But I think I'm going to go a different direction for November.

LOL Allie!
I've decided that if I can't come up with anything soon for an original plot, fanfic will be my backup. I have several plot ideas in the areas of The X-Files and NCIS, none of which I want to use for an original novel because I want my original novel to consist of entirely original ideas and characters not based on shows that I enjoy.
Upon pondering old fanfiction, I googled my name and came up with an old Emergency! fanfic that's still online! Ack! I wrote that when I was fifteen- almost ten years ago!

I'm 29 (yes, really...I get that kind of shifty-eyed, "no, really, how old are you?" look whenever I say that, which makes me wonder how old I really look). I used to try to write fanfic, but the experience taught me I'm not good at playing with other people's characters. I can appreciate them and enjoy watching the show/reading the book and discussing everything from plot to setting to character motivation with other fans, but all that love doesn't translate into being able to write my favorite characters in character. That makes me a little sad because (hello, revelation of my own personal hang-ups!), I feel like a fandom outsider.
(I remember the Mission Impossible show! It used to be a staple in Family TV night in my household growing up. Ah, memories! I made the mistake of seeing the first Mission Impossible movie with my mom, and the two of us left the theater in tears.)

I'm not exactly older and I'm not even doing a fanfic for my nano, but I wanted to mention that I read and write Forever Knight fic, read Phantom of the Opera fic (and will end up with an Erik/Lord Saxon incarnation in my novel), used to read Buffy fic, have written some old Doctor Who fic (like 2nd Doctor old. That's old.)
So I sort of feel like I belong in this thread...

I'm so relieved / excited that I'm not the only one writing a fan fic for NaNo!! While I usually write original stuff, lately I've just had too much fun doing fan fic to settle on anything else for NaNo.
Well, I'm 23. So I'm not a squealing teenage fangirl, but I am not "older" either. Although I agree with the poster who said "older" should be defined as "anyone above the age of 90". =)
Anyway, I have been writing original fiction since I was probably 8 years old, from silly little short stories to more ambitious attempts, and I have a degree in English. But for NaNo, I'm writing a fanfiction, because I've recently started writing Harry Potter fan fic and it's devouring my brain so I figured I'd just go with it!
It's a remix of the events of OotP told mostly from Sirius' POV (with sections of Remus' POV also). I'm a bit nervous about trying to write something so large that fits in not only with canon events but with the previous R/S stories I've written, but I think it's going to be quite fun!
And I'm hoping that forcing myself to write a long story will give me the kick in the butt I need to commit to writing my original novel-length pieces that have been outlined on my computer for ages!! =)

I guess I too fall into this category. 31, will turn 32 over the course of NaNo. Not that it makes much difference. I suppose I would have posted in the other fanfic list, but it honestly scares me to read through that much stuff just to end up saying "me too!"
I don't really write older stuff. My NaNo this year is a Supernatural idea that I came up with last spring. I tend to stick more with the supernatural stuff, including SPN, Dark Angel, Buffy and Angel. Actually, every single year that I've done NaNo, it's been a fanfic. That feels pretty good. Except that I'm still not finished last years tale. It's at over 200k now... But I will persevere and get back to it, once November is over.
