Okay, now that the site is less broken and it doesn't take me 13+ hours to load a forum thread:
(Not kidding. Tried to load forums at 6:00 p.m. Still hadn't loaded by 8:00 a.m. next day. Yay for Russ and debugging.)
As the MLs, we hold official write-ins once a week. These are the ones where we will show up with stickers, name tags, goodie bags, thesaurii (??) and the like to provide you with all the hoo-rah and moral support we can fit into a 16 ounce coffee mug. (and yes - YES - we have **plot ninjas** this year... yippee!)
But what to do, what to do, if you can't make write-ins, but still want to write with other people. Or if, like Heather and I, you are just generally distracted by all the stuff you ...ooh, shiny... um, can do at home that ISN'T writing, so it's safer to hide out somewhere else?
In comes the concept of 'write-outs'.
If you're going to be writing somewhere public and would like other Wrimos to join you and keep you company, post a date, time and location here in this thread. No promises anyone will come, but put out the tent card in your goodie bag (no tent card? then you need to come and meet us...) or lay out your notes and your laptop and see who shows up.
Two basic rules:
1) Do NOT have a Write-Out on the same day as any officially stated event, please, unless you're Bea from Flin Flon and I know you won't be keeping anyone from attending. :) People should not be forced to choose. Write-outs are not a substitute for write ins, they are in ADDITION to them.
2) Please be mindful of your own safety. ***ABSOLUTELY NO PRIVATE RESIDENCES!!!*** Do not post phone numbers to these forums, they are viewable by the general public. Constrain write-ins to coffee shops, libraries, malls and other gathering places for the human animal. Meet a friend at your destination who can write with you if you'll be out late so you have a traveling companion - it gets dark *early* in November, and walking around with an expensive laptop bag can be an issue of concern.
You still have to come out to official write-ins to get your stars and things, since I don't lug the Tickle Trunk to write-outs when I show up at one, but it's a way to get out and meet people.
This thread is also for people who want to connect on a purely social level outside of the official dates. The same rules apply, but if someone wants to host Sunday 'brunch and babble' at Cora's in St. Boniface one morning, I'm all for that. :)
=Bets=
(Oh, one other thing - no balloons on a string / stick please. A dead Dan at a write-out would be a bad thing. Please come up with a non-latex way to indicate your table. Wearing the official 2007 Nanowrimo t-shirt works well. *heehee*)

All right. I'm not prepared to be an official ML for Pembina this year - no time to plan Kick-off Party, or any other party for that matter - but I will organise write-outs. I'm still waiting to hear if Ten Twenty-Seven will be open in November. If it is, Write-Outs (or Ins - whatever) are tentatively scheduled for 1027, Fridays, 7.30 pm. (Pembina people, please weigh in with preferences and RSVPs.) If that doesn't work out, the Winkler Library meeting room is a possibility, even though there's no nearby cafe. Suggestions for other locales, or indeed other days and times, are welcome.

Any creatures of the night wanting to meet around 11:30pm or midnight periodically through nano?
Pappa Georges in the village is open till 4am. Boston Pizza is usually open till 2 but they're sometimes noisy.
I don't know where there's a 24 hour Perkins any more but if anyone knows one that doesn't close at 11 or 12, that's an option too.
There's also the U of M, we'd need someone to let people in cuz they lock stuff up at 10pm during the strike.

DJ's? I've never been there after the dinner rush so I don't know how busy it gets, but I know Wayne has that smaller, semi-private room towards the back. Just in case, of course - the coffee is - just coffee there ;) I've been absolutely on pins n needles waiting for one of the coffee bars to open up again!
I'm still car-less for the most part, but there are more possibilities for loaners now. ;) I definitely want to make it to at least one get-together this year.

I'd be down for a late-night writing session. Every year in Toronto they do an all-nighter writing session and it's always a blast.
Perkins aren't 24 hours anymore? Sacrilege!

The more reasons not to go to Perkins, the better.
Last year I recommended the Park Theatre and Movie Cafe because it was right by my house and awesome, but there was a bit of trouble with noisiness the second time out because I never knew what was going on. Since I am now employed by the Park Theatre, I can easily figure out which evenings will be quiet enough for us to have a nice, relaxed writing time.
So people know what I'm talking about, the Park Theatre is a former turn-of-the-20th-century movie theatre that was brutally murdered by the multiplex industry many many years ago. It was mad-renovated and reopened two years ago as a theatre/live venue/dvd rental place/cafe. It is on Osborne, a few streets north of Jubilee, and is hard to miss because the word PARK is emblazoned in four foot tall letters made of blinky lights on both sides of the facade. There are often events going on, but there is a nice loft above the cafe itself that can often allow people to avoid whatever is going on and still have a peaceful experience. I know a few of us had a good time writing there at least once. Hopefully we can do that again.

First time nano person. (technically). LOL .
I'd really like to join in on the fun, however due to scheduling, and having a 5 year old in school now it's just not in my forseable future.
I only get one weekend free, and next month's weekend free happens to be my 26th birthday. (November 23rd) Yay for grandparents always granting me that weekened to have just for me and friends. In fact I have a set goal for that day. If I am sucessful, the dinner with friends will be my bribery reward.
However if there's ever going to be an event somwhere near Pembina and Chancelor let me know. Be it at the salsburys or applebees. I'll be sure to show up with my five year old armed with note book, and various things to keep child happily amused. That is to say, if you don't mind said child around asking "why" all the time.
I forsee a busy november this year, taking my daughter to school in the morning for three hours, writing while waiting to pick her up, taking her home making lunch, writing during the nap, and then dinner times, and writing out a few paragraphs at bedtime before my eyelids droop and make me fall asleep at the desk.
But yeah, not likley I can make most events unless close by and it's in the afternoon.
Just letting people know.

*man, I want my ML superpowers back so I can merge / move threads arrrgh*
Hey guys; could we keep the informal writing threads all in the same place? We've got two write-ins happening today on two threads... it would be much better if we could keep things central, i.e on THIS thread. Pleeeeease? (I'll ask about merging the other threads here somehow...)
On that note, since Heather and I are both in choir all day and can't make EITHER posted write-out, *grin*
Heather and I wil be at the Fyxx on Broadway (we're just going as 'us', not with our official hats on, so we won't have any schwag with us) between seven and nine p.m. ish tonight. (That's Sunday November 4th)
We'll stick out a tent card. Might see some of you out.

Thought I'd post this here, just in case anyone wants to skip the Thompson thread. I'm the ML for the Northern areas up here and I wanted to let anyone who's interested know the schedule. Here goes...
Hello all us Thompsonites (and any guests)! Hope the wintery weather is helping encourage your butts to stay in chairs, drink hot chocolate and write! I myself happen to be on the brink of owing a dear friend any chore she wants, another a Saturday of Jr. Bowling supervision and free babysitting unless I get my word count up *Darn Onerosity coupons...shoulda just...wait, this isn't my inside voice, is it?*
Just a reminder that our write-ins are going to be on the following dates...
November 8th Library 6-7 Write In (Hot Chocolate? Maybe...)
November 10th Northern Flavours, 2-5 Write In
November 15th 6-7 Library Write In
November 17th-18th NUCLEAR WEEKEND Library 1-5
November 22nd 6-7 library, Write In
November 24th Northern Flavours 2-5 Write In
November 29th Library Write in 6-7
If anyone is up in our neck of the woods on any of these dates, feel free to join us! We'd love the company!

Totally up for that, I'm in the Village myself about five minutes away walking! Let me know when's good for you, and I'll see if I can make it. The lighting at PG's is pretty awful though - Little Pizza heaven might work better?

Okay, Pembina Valley people - who's up for a write-in at the Winkler Library tomorrow night? Or should we try for next week Friday at Java Junction? I haven't checked in at 1027 so I don't know what the deal is there - maybe later on in the month?
I'll just warn you now that the library write-in would be strictly BYOS - bring your own sugar source.

1027's busy introducing a bakery line and is going to be reopening on the 15th. They're going to be open all winter now. I'd love to come to a write-in tomorrow but I don't think I'll be able to quite make it in to Winkler on time, alas...

Hi guys,
I'm going to be doing my usually Sunday afternoon session, 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Fyxx in the Exchange.
There might be a couple of non-nanoers there, but they'll be working on their own projects. (We've been trying to do weekly productivity/creative sessions where we work on whatever projects we have afoot)
If there are going to be a few of you guys coming out, I'll bring a power strip for extra laptop plug-ins :)

In case anyone's looking for somewhere to kick back tonight (Friday, the 9th), the event at the Park Theatre has been cancelled, so you'll be guaranteed quiet time and the opportunity to watch me clean things and look bored.

I called the Pastry Castle this afternoon, it looks like they are planning to be closed on Monday. They said they were going to give me a call to let me know for sure and I never heard anything back from them. So I'm planning to give them a call again Saturday to try and confirm it one way or another.
In the mean time I am open to other suggestions for a place to write either downtown or in the Exchange Monday afternoon.

Zut! The Fyxx isn't open tomorrow (Nov 11th), so instead I'll be at the Second Cup at 238 Portage Avenue (Portage & Fort) from 1:00pm to around 4:00pm.

With sentimentality, I view this thread. As a former Manitoban, now on a volunteer expedition across Canada, I have been left NaNoWriMo-groupless. A sad and lonely condition it is, my friends.
I'd like to remind you all how fortunate you are to be in the midst of a community in which you are able to connect with one another.
Cheers, from the lonely and barren countryside of Northern Alberta.

P.S.
At some point, feel free to write my name on a scrap paper and place me in the midst of a write-in. I would like to be there, in some form.

I'm assuming when is sometime after sixish, since there needs to be food involved.

Are there any people in the St. Vital (extending out to St. Boniface and Windsor Park) area who are thinking of getting together for a write-out or whatnot anytime soon?
I was thinking sometime this sunday, but I'm really unsure as of a time. I have a game at 11:50 (am, thank god), so I'm pretty much unavailable until 1:30.
Sooo.. anyone up for it? Lol. I was thinking maybe either the Fyxx, the Louis Riel library or... I ran out of ideas. Anyone got any?!
(I also hope I did this write in asking. I apologize if I didn't! ^^; )

Yay! One person! ^^
Edit/Add-on: I'll be at the Fyxx on Dakota across from the St. Vital mall from about 1:30 to 4:00 pm, if anyone wants to come. :) I'll be sure to set up one of those pink little NaNo cards we got from the kit bags as well. ^_^
If you have a nut allergy, you might want to avoid this place depending on the severity. They have awesome java sticks, but sometimes they put nuts in them and we never know which is which. I severely apologize for this. :(

I'd like to propose a write-out for the afternoon of Tuesday, November 27th, at the Millennium LIbrary, in the study area where the last couple of write-ins have been held (4th floor, to the left of the elevators). I'll be there with a smal lime green NaNo "Novelist at Work" tent card, but you'll also be able to recognize me by my red hair, round Harry Potter-style glasses, and "Oh my God, this novel is KILLING me!" expression.
I'll be there from 3 pm to 6:30 pm or thereabouts.
