I'm right across the bridge from Alameda and plan to bike over to Forbidden Island at least weekly to test my theory that rum makes words go.

I respond well to peer pressure. Anyone want to schedule writing sessions at cafes or the library, maybe once or twice a week?

I work in Alameda. I'm looking for an after work cafe to write.
Please private message me any good cafes near or around Park St.
Good luck to all!

I would be down with writing sessions after work. I get back from the city at about 7pm, and live on the SouthWest end, near Park. I am more a cafe than a library person, as I like having a hot cup of tea to help the words flow.
I'm not sure which cafe's would be the best, though there is that tea garden place with the back patio (Near Encinal, can't remember the name of it). Anyone down for an opening write-in Thurs to inagurate? (very open to suggestions about location, I've only been an Alamedan for a year now, so don't know everything yet)

I would LOVE an opening night write-in and write-ins in the after work hours! I just moved to Alameda in August so I don't know any cafes either-- I'm on the West side near Webster, but would love to meet up anywhere on the island. There's the Peet's Coffee on Park St. or the Starbucks-- chains mean we can plug in laptops. I am sure that their must be some sort of more independent cafe that we should look for though to support local stuff. (Starbucks is a little frightening: I've started giving people directions in terms of Starbucks, as in, "Make a left at the third Starbucks").

Julie's Tea has wireless. So does Javarama. Both are on Park Street. I prefer Julie's but I don't think it stays open as late as other places.

Julies was the place I was trying to think of, and sadly its only open until 9. I am pretty anti-starbucks, and there tends to be a large contingency of noisy teens at the one on Park on weeknights. Javarama might be cool, and there is one more that is on the same side as Peets but up another block that is locally owned. I will have a little scout on Park Street in the next couple days.

Aha! JavaRama is the place down the street from Peets. They have Wifi, and are open til 11pm. I vote we start there. What does everyone think of 7pm at JavaRama on Thursday the 1st?
JavaRama is at 1333 Park St, Between Encinal and Central. Parking on Park can be tricky, you may be better off finding something on Oak street, which is one block North.
I am a short redhead with a Mac Laptop.
Edit: How awesome would a pirate night write-in be at Forbidden Island?

We had a small group for weekly write-ins last year and we found Julie's was a lot more comfortable (easier to find a table together, cleaner, etc). The earlier closing doesn't bother me since I need to be up early in the morning, anyway. Somehow, I just never can get anything done at JavaRama.

I am not tied to JavaRama forever, I was just thinking for an opening night event, somewhere that stayed open later than 9 might be nice. I also get up early, so hope to not stay out too late regularly, but I tend to be sleepless and overly gung ho the first few days. Also, I'm gluten intolerant, so can't eat anything provided at the coffeeshops (beverages are fine) and sofar JavaRama's attitude towards me sneaking in my own cookies is much more positive than Julies. I was also working under the assumption that we wouldn't get tied to one place, as I am looking forward to exploring Alameda's coffee shops.
Anyone else interested, or is it just the two of us left here?

Count me in! So are we saying JavaRama Thursday at 7? I am the brown-haired gal with the cat-hair covered clothing and the HP laptop.
I also get up in the pre-pre-dawn hours-- my alarm goes off just as college kids are getting to sleep. So I'm probably going to get there and get started a little early.

Alameda right here :) Living on the west end. I would love to meet up at Java Rama on the first. I'll see you there! (short, longish black hair, glasses)
Some other cafe suggestions for write-ins:
Julie's (as stated)
Spritzers
Jay's Cafe (on encinal, short hours though, so this is more of a daytime place. they have good lunches.)
I dont' think I would attend if it were at Starbucks >.> I'm just not a fan.

I work on the west end and live on BFI, so any place is convenient for me. I just joined for the first time and am now questioning my sanity.

OK, I will be there on the 1st as well, probably earlier than 7pm. Hopefully I'll find some of you guys. If not, I have long brown hair, glasses, and a really obvious tattoo on my chest.

Oh, and Thursday is one of my days off, so I'll probably be at Julie's most of the day if anyone cares to join me.

I'll try to be at the Javarama at 7 PM Thursday. I've got a Sony laptop with a large Apple logo on it (just to be different).

My tentative plans right now are to be writing at Forbidden Island on the following days:
Sat 11/10
Thu 11/15
Thu 11/29
I'll post actual dates and times as they approach in case anyone else wants to join me in testing the theory that rum makes me smarter.

BayFarmer here. I suppose we technically count as Alamedans, even though we've been exiled to live with the airport.

If I get to count in SOFA (South of Fruitvale) then you get to count on zombie farm island, in my mind it's all about whether or not riding a bike to trader joes is an option or not :)

You can ride a bike just about anywhere, except thru the Caldecott. I ride from BFI to Alameda Point every day, past Trader Joe's. Lovely ride.

I am glad/sad to announce that I got a job yesterday (good!) and will not be able to make it to JavaRama tonight (bad!) but I was wondering if anyone wanted to schedule a weekend meetup at either Julie's or Java Rama or this weekend?
To those of you at JavaRama tonight, have fun!!!

I'd be up for Julie's on the weekend (or Spritzer's on Central near Webster). I was just looking at my calendar for November and the only Thursday I'd be able to make a write-in is the 29th.
And here's me thinking I had no life! :-0
Good luck, neighbours!
