This might fit better into Adventure or something But I don't know where else it could go, and it sort of sounded as if it fit here, but it could go in Other.
My story is about a modern woman being chased and hunted by a vampire. She find help with a nearby college professor but the situation changes and so due her feelings about her enemy.

I really have no idea where this fits!

It really depends on what the primary themes of the story are. If it's mostly supernatural in nature--the vampire, vampirism, etc., then it might fit into the fantasy or horror categories (depending on which aspects you emphasize most/more). If it's primarily about character and plot development, and the vampire and the concept of vampirism are vehicles towards that, then you're probably in the right place. If it's all symbolic and you're really dealing with social/political/cultural issues using the characters as representatives of the different sides of the issues rather than actual people at work within the story, then you've found one of the most creative spins on literary fiction I've yet come across. My honest guess, though, is that if yoru story doesn't belong in fantasy or horror, you're in exactly the right category here.

I think it sounds like Adventure or Thriller but I guess it all depends on what you want to convey. If you're trying to get readers to feel excitement, suspense or fear this might not be the best group for you. If you're more looking to tell the story about the characters and their relationships in the midst of conflicts, then Mainstream might be more your place. Then again, why not check out multiple forums while you get started and see which one helps you along the most? Best of luck!

I agree. It's really what you make it: what elements of the story you play up the most.

I'm having the same exact problem with my novel. It can be sooo confusing!! (Especially since I'm new to this whole Nanowrimo [hehe] thing.) However, under the definition of mainstream, it says may fit under more than one category and that's totally my book. SO if your book is like that or has more adventure/excitement than fiction, just switch the genre. TTFN!
