Congrats, Augusta! You won the Donation Derby!

Dear Wrimos of Augusta,

Greetings! This year on the NaNoWriMo site, we launched something called the Donation Derby. The goal of the derby was to pit otherwise-neighborly NaNo regions against one another in a merciless donation battle to the death. All in the name of helping fund NaNoWriMo's free writing programs in communities and classrooms around the world.

We divided all the regions into leagues with suitably fearsome names, like Kodiak Bears, Komodo Dragons, and Tasmanian Devils. Then the battle commenced, with the top prize going to the region in each league that showed the largest average increase in individual donations over the previous year.

Augusta competed in the Wolverines league. And Augusta, I am very proud to say, smashed the competition, and emerged as the 2009 Wolverines league champion. Augusta Wrimos singlehandedly donated $1,310 in 2009. To everyone who donated, thank you so much! You are responsible for helping 167,000 adults and 1400 classrooms discover their creative potential this fall.

Lindsey will be following up with a very sweet Augusta web badge, and a photo of the plaque hanging here in the office celebrating Augusta's achievement this year. On behalf of our participants and staff, I say: Go Augusta!

With 63,178 words, and a completed story, I'm quite excited for the next stage and getting into the edits.

Congratulations to everyone else who won for 50k and for all the others...remember you are still a winner even if you just put down one more word than what you had at November 1st. That's how novels getting written...one word at a time and each word you do write puts you one step closer to the end!!!

Hello, everyone.
I know I have posted at all.
Not a posting type.
I just wanted to tell you all that I won ^_^ And I really respect everyone whether you win or not. Having the courage to go a week or so is amazing. I almost gave out many times during the month.
You've still got one day left, if you haven't finished. You can totally win in that amount of time! Honestly, I bet you can do it.

wow, it's 2:19 in the morning, but I finally have a handwritten novel of 50,030 words. It has been an busy month, and I think I might have developed arthritis, but other than that I am overjoyed. My book is finally written down. Yay!!!

My God, I made it

I didn't do a word count or update for almost a week. All i did was write when i could and then walk away. Well.....i pulled it up and copied it over tonight. WOW...i made it! I can pass out now.

And for that that made it.....CONGRATZ!!!!

Its been a rough month and I really can understand anyone that stumbled. So CONGRATZ to all for putting a pen to pad and attacking this challenge. We all deserve a pat on the back. I got my wife to promise me that i can be at the next meeting on Tuesday...and coffee or hot chocolate is on ME. Gratz all.

So I told most of you that I wasn't officially participating this year (hence my absence at most of the meetings) because I wanted to keep working on a novel I've been tinkering with off and on for months, and I knew rushing it would ruin it when it's actually going well.
Ironically, I just passed 50k on it the other day >_>

I'm adding to the wordcounter all the words I've gotten done on it this month, though, to help with the million word thingy.

I'm sorry I've been ... well, absent this year. Most of you kind of know what's going on with me, and although my spirits are doing a bit better, my creativity is lacking [if the barely-2k word-count isn't proof enough].

I've wanted to come to the meets, but have trouble co-ordinating dates/places. EarthFare is pretty far out for me, especially on a weeknight, from where I'm now living [more than a 45 minute drive], and I've unfortunately had my son on the days the meetings were at BAM. And while I love him dearly, he is a great distraction I haven't wanted to burden anyone with.

I am free to go to BAM this Sunday, if anyone else will be there [Bran will be with his daddy].

All-Nighter

Mou ... I am seriously lagging behind. My fantastic plan of working on my novel furiously the weekend I didn't have Bran totally bombed, because I was constantly traveling back and forth from my where I live now to where I USED to live, in order to pack it up and clean it out. =(

Are we planning on pulling an all-nighter together this year? If so, ideas on where and when?

Where is Your Muse

Over a week of terrible distractions, earth shattering news, reality changing questions and I finally got around to sitting down at the PC and get back my focus. Wait, where is my muse? Where is the inspiration that keeps my fingers dancing with the keys like some goofy geek Fred and Ginger thing? I stare at the keys. I stare at the screen. I get aspirin because I've been staring at the screen. I stare some more. No muse. I've been derailed.

The search took over three days and it wasn't good news. Yes, I found my muse. It had been on a week long binge at the library. I found it lying in a puddle between the autobiographies and research. It was still holding firm to a 64 oz. jug of coffee and a line of pixie dust still coated its nose.

"1667, just 1667," it kept mumbling as I carted it off.

Its in bed now. Not sure how its going to handle the next few weeks. I'm going on autopilot, writing more exposition than dialog. My motivation is exhausted and I can't blame it. My thoughts are on my wife, my family and the possible move to Washington state. It just isn't here.

Wait....my muse just came downstairs, a bit dishoveled and wrapped firmly in a comforter. It doesn't look happy.

"What's that," I ask, trying to hear its muffled whisper.

"Shut up and write," it snaps. "Don't make me go Madea on you."

You know, I hate my muse!

I know that a lot of us already know each other, but I'm hoping that we get some new people this year as well! So... for the sake of reference...

Hi! I'm Jen. I write primarily in the fantasy genre, either in young adult or really, really adult... I'm trying something in between this year, though! I have three kids (4, 3, and 2) and my husband is stationed at Ft. Gordon. This is my sixth year of NaNoWriMo and I hope for it to be my fifth win. :)
