Too bad there's not a poll feature on this thing. I was just wondering what city everyone's chick lit is set in. I'll go first....Fairbanks, Alaska. LOL.

The one I'm focusing on for Nano is set in partly in Ealing, (part of London) and partly in Coventry, UK. With a quick flit through Stratford.
The two I am writing outside of Nano are set in Ellesmere (a little town in Shropshire) and in Manchester. Both in the UK (but that's because I live there, so it's easier than making the MCs live in America)

I've decided that since this is my first year I'm going to make setting easy on myself and have it set here, where I live - Rapid City, South Dakota.

Probably in the Midwest, since that's where I live and it's what I know.
But I think of one of my characters is going to end up in California.

Initially, I thought of Honolulu because I wanted somewhere far away and very different from here, but after rediscovering my laziness (and possibly time constraints) to do research and having a surging sense of patriotism, I've decided to set it in Montréal. Weaving some French into the dialogue is also alluring and fun.

I'm actually going easy on myself, sort of. My story will be set in New Jersey, but in a made up town...boy I hope that's allowed LOL! Really a mix of the different cities I've lived in and visited in NJ.

Mine's in a made up town, Summerview. I know the name's a bit cliched, but it totally suits the surroundings. It's a little town on the coast in Australia, the beach is a few minute's walk away and all the teens and preteens surf.

Chicago, Illinois!!! :)
I would put it in Portland, but there's something romantic about putting it in a town I know about, but live very far away from. :-D Especially that it's a big metropolis. :) Not as harsh as New York. Got some quirkiness, too!

San Diego, California. I've lived in Cali, but not San Diego, so this is going to be a challenge. I'll probably worry about details and accuracy in my editing phase... I'm a lazy procrastinator like that. haha

High five, Sara! I'm setting mine in San Diego, too! Most of it will take place in a 120 year-old mansion in National City so I'm excited to write a story in my hometown.

I haven't decided where my story is going to be set yet, and I am kind of fretting. =( It'll probably be NYC (because I live in NY and it's easy), but my novel is largely set around the music industry, so it's a little tricky.

Oh God.. hadn't even thought of this. haha.
I suppose I'll set mine here, in Adelaide. Or Melbourne. Or Sydney. Ooooh maybe Brisbane. No.. Brisbane seems too sunny. Perth, actually. Oh... Yes. Perth! I've never been to Perth but my novel seems Perthy. OMG HOBART! And I'm a horrible Australian who can't remember the capital of Hobart. Dear God.
Yes so obviously.. I have no idea. Haha.

I like this question! Mine is going to be set in London's Canary Wharf area. But my MC is going to travel a bit too, maybe a little bit of Belgium, Paris.. not sure yet. But for sure lots of London! :) (I'm in London for 4 months, originally from Canada.)

If anything emerges, my MC will move from Baltimore, where she grew up, and I've only visited once, but have a neighbor who is a native, to New Mexico (Albuquerque as she'll start med school there) but probably spend a lot of time in Santa Fe, as her mother's family all live there and part of why she moves is so she can get to know that side of her.
Of course... I still have no plot, no outline and a vague idea of who my other characters are. This MC is part of my overall family tree-- and I have stories written about three of them in various states of progress. Like the last two stories I've written, I've started off in chick lit but have ventured far from it. I think... this one will stay here... I don't have the angst, anger and major ass plot twists that take me on a whole different journey and into another genre completely.
