Hi!
I know we did introductions at the Pre-Kickoff Party. But this is for all those people who didn't get a chance to attend, or those who were over-awed by the general insanity of some of us.
So this is the official "Introduce yourself" thread. Tell us a bit about yourself. What do you do during your leisure time? What music do you like listening to? What's your pet called? Tell us anything you wish to divulge.
Since i'm the one prying, i'll start. My real name is Simon, for those that missed it. I work in IT. The company I work for does a lot of sub-contracting, so at the moment I'm working for the Department of Defence. The rest of the time, i hang out with Nikki, play WoW, and occasionally, go for a bike ride (I am horribly out of shape). And if you couldn't tell by looking at my profile, i like Metal. I'd list the bands, but they're all in my profile.
What about you?

You're Simon, alias Lokispants silly! Do you really need me to tell you that?
I'm Chloe. A bit of a nutter for lab coats and old jazz music. I'm also big on comics, my favourites being Transmetropolitan and Batman. I play games (video and tabletop), arrange loop based compositions, and recently found my calling in paintball. Currently I'm looking for over-the-break casual employment whilst I study for exams. I'm currently studying a bachelor of science (communication) at the ANU. I also had some pet stick insects but unfortunately they died recently. :(
The doggy in the window is called Rupert. He bites small children. Nobody loves him. :D

I'm Liz Phillips - I'm not generally called Lizi, but the extra 'i' stands for my middle name. Do you really want to know? Irene :)
I work for a private company specialising in Project Management and Training and we get most of our work with the Department of Defence. Normally I work as a Documenter (yes, I actually do get paid to write!) but right now I am filling in for someone on leave doing Quality and HSE activities.
In my spare time I read and write, hang out with good friends, watch movies (fan of zombies), occasionally go for bushwalks, and dream of what my next big holiday will involve.
The music I like the most are people/bands like Tom Waits, Barry Adamson, NIN. I saw Mikelangelo and The Black Sea Gentlemen on Friday night and they were fantastic. That being said, when I'm listening to the radio I always listen to classical music.
What else? When I was at Uni (many years ago) I specialised in Drama and have performed in lots of plays. I am going to start my Master of Arts next year, specialising in writing.
As some of you saw, I am the mum of an almost 6-year old son who is seriously into sharks, not to mention dinosaurs and space.
You really want to know my pets names as well? Three cats - Bastet, Djinn and Sparrow.

Hello to you all again! I'm Amelia, but everyone calls me Millie. I was the one in the corner who didn't actually buy anything cause she's poor and needs to find a job! xD
I'm in year 9 at highschool right now, and it's not very fun. Public school can be a bore sometimes. My main thing is writing. I write stories, short and long, and alot of poetry. ALOT of poetry. I'm the poet of my group. When I'm not writing, I'm playing or listening to music, reading someone's writing, playing computer games or talking to my nerd/geek friends. Life is sweet.
And my puppies are called Rudy and C.J. They are gorgeous.
Liz-You're boy was beautiful =] I know have enough shark facts to last me a lifetime!

I'm Julia and I'm doing a double degree in Law and Creative Writing at the UC, which I really enjoy. I have a black thumb, I can't even keep a cactus alive. I'm rarely on time for anything. I'd prefer to watch Battlestar Galactica or Boston Legal than clean up (actually, I think I'd rather do anything than clean up), I play WoW and I love my Nintendo DS. I also love playing pool and poker, though I've had to quit smoking recently. I got my first tattoo in Thailand and I'm about to get my second. Also, I used to slush read for ASIM (a light-hearted sci-fi magazine - definitely worth a read) so I like reading and commenting on other people's work. One day I think I might like to be an editor.

I'm Claire. I spend too much time on the internet. Enough time to be, in various places, a moderator, an administrator, and a sysop.
When I'm not spending too much time on the internet, I'm a programming student at CIT. I might even finish the course if I can figure out how to do this Java assignment I can't figure out how to do. I like reading, playing video games and watching cartoons.
Wow, I'm boring.

It's a tough choice. I think my favourite plotline has to be No Man's Land, though my other favourites include the Killing Joke, Thrillkiller and Hush. Mad Love is up there as well, Harley Quinn has one of the most compelling back-stories I ever read. I do have a soft spot for some of the really old campy stuff though.
Transmet is so many kinds of love. I've never read anything like it and I doubt I ever well. It sort of goes, "well sure I like this other stuff" and then there's Transmetropolitan. It's in a league of it's own!

True to my (first) name, I'm Duncan. I've just finished my third year of four doing a Double Degree in Arts/Journalism at UC. At said University, I also shelve books at the library, for which they give me money, which may be used to purchase goods and services.
Stuff I dig: writing (of course), reading, listening to music (all sorts of stuff so I'll save namedropping for later), attempting to create music with guitar, mandolin, keyboard, voice and other things, going to shows, and riding around admiring the world on my bike.
Stuff I don't dig: bigotry, violence, magpies swooping my bike and the big fat corporate jerks who are taking over student residences next year.
I have a dog back home in Wagga named Bella. Earlier this year I had a series of hermit crabs (Hermes, Zoidberg, Elbino and Pinchy) which was pretty cool, but despite my best efforts they all eventually died. I don't think a tank in chilly ol' Canberra was the place for them.
I'm planning on shaving off my facial fuzz off at the start of November, but I'm uncertain as to whether I'm going to make it a Movember on top of a NaNoWriMo.
I am a nutter for the colour green.
And I love this t-shirt but it has a hole in it.

Hey Julia, I'm doing a bunch of creative writing subjects for my Arts Major (English Language and Literature). How far are you into it? I did CW1 and 2 this year, and next year I'm packing in Scriptwriting, Writing for Young People, Poetry and the Imagination and maybe more. My unit selection is discombobulated.

Oh man, I am thirding the Transmet love. Never was that into comics, but then I found Transmet 1 and a few months later I had the whole collection. It really is something else. I really want to check out the rest of Warren Ellis's stuff. The man has a novel out now, apparently.
And I mooched some Batman comics off the student network here. I'll have to check 'em out and see if they're worth purchasing/pursuing further.

I'm Skyring, and I travel around the world embracing beautiful women.
To pay for my travels, I drive a cab, five nights a week, twelve hours a night and fifteen hours on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings. When I'm not driving, I sleep, and I have very little idea of how I'm going to find time to write a novel in 30 days.
I have very little idea of the novel, either. I have a vague idea of who the murder victim is and how he died, but I don't know who did it or why. I guess I should be writing a detailed outline, but I'm just going to set up my characters and walk beside them as they have an adventure.
One good thing about being a cabbie, and that is that I get plenty of inspiration from my passengers. Chunks of conversation, interesting information, odd tangential thoughts - two or three times each hour someone climbs in beside me and shares my life for a few minutes.
I've been a uni student, soldier, public servant, computer programmer, game designer, hacker, Navy spouse, political journalist, online bookseller, and a few other things along the way, but believe it or not, I love being a taxi driver most of all.
I've published one book and written three NaNo's none of which amounted to much, but I love writing and I'm always interested in making people smile, so maybe this one will turn out to be something special.

Hi everyone
This is my second attempt at this after having failed dismally last year for a number of reasons. I'm a semi-retired public servant (DFAT) and when I'm not sitting in front of the PC looking for excuses not to write I take a lot of photos (birds, landscapes etc). My writing to date has been mostly journal stuff plus the odd poem and short story - so taking on this long form is a big challenge for me. I've no idea what to write about yet but I'm trying not to panic! I think I need to give up Flickr and Facebook for a month!
Good luck to everyone!!

Hey! I'm Jade. I have a ridiculous job at Macca's that will probably prevent me from getting to most meets. They insist on giving me all these stupid 7-2:30 shifts on Sundays! But I will try.
I don't really have much to say. There's not very much that is uniquely *me* - unless you count acting like a six year old on sugar most of the time unique. I'm 14, I'm in year 9, I'm a science nerd. I collect books that have pretty matching covers, like all the Jodi Piccoult books :D But most of all... Harry Potter defines my life. Sad, isn't it? In a school of 1200 people, someone will say Jade S, and the automatic response will be "ohhh, the Harry Potter girl, right?" But I don't mind. It's fun being extra-obsessed; I got to go on local and national radio as a guest expert a few times to talk about Harry Potter around the OotP movie and DH book releases.
Hm... aside from that, I like to read, I spend half my life on the net, and I have 7 month old baby brothers, Michael and Cameron, that I want to throttle most of the time. Nonetheless, they are gorgeous. I wish I could say the same of my 9 year old sister. I have a dog called Fox at my mum's place that no one has the time or inclination to care for, but we keep because my sister would throw a screaming fit if we didn't, and at dad's place a cat called Cally that likes to take a crap on our beds. Music-wise I am in love with Muse (going to go see them very soon! WOOT!), Evanescence, Linkin Park and several wizard rock bands such as the Remus Lupins, Romilda Vane and the Chocolate Cauldrons and my all-time favourite: The Weasel King. I run his fanclub, I love him that much :D
Thus is the sad pathetic little world of Jade. Have fun getting to see the failure that I will no doubt become :D I'm so utterly silly and insane that you'll probably get a giggle along the way, though ^_^

Well me, I'm Stephanie, I'm 19 next week friday, which will be interesting. As for what I do, I sell First Aid kits southside canberra. There isn't much i don't enjoy doing and when with the right people am incredibly insane, aka pole dancing in on the train in sydney returning from Supanova. I have two dogs, Tiger and Axel, and a bird named Stevie Wonder. I recently moved house and well did Nano last year. Isn't much else to say really, just have to get to know me is all. Oh as for my nickname, Kyii, pronouced like the object used to open locks aka Key, was given to me years ago, long story behind it. My other nickname is Suki, a shortened version of the name of my favourite character Tasuki from Fushigi Yuugi. Well I'll most likely see you all soon if I'm not working during the get togethers. This year I'm attempting two stories not just one.

ok, i guess i should do this too, hey?
I'm Lyradi, i'm 19 years old, and to save on confusion, yes, i am female. I get so confused when i don't know if i'm talking to a guy or a girl online, it just messes my head.
what to say? I am widely believed to be insane or at the very least, wierd.
I am technically a public servant at DCITA atm, but i've been off for most of the last month, and will be for most of the next (which of course will make doing NaNo a lot easier, to look on the bright side) with a crook back. I maintain that I am TOO YOUNG for back injuries, damnit, but my back isnt listening. And now it looks like I also have anaemia and a possible stomach ulcer to worry about. yay my body. (sorry, i have medical stuff on the brain right now. i usually NEVER get sick)
I usually do martial arts and WAS litterally a week off getting my green belt when all this back stuff started and so sadly, i couldnt grade. that made me a very sad little chicken. You dont know what you got til its gone, so they say; you dont know what you love doing until you can no longer do it.
I'm an absolute music addict, i'm a drama nerd. I was a high school goth in year ten; i was the goody goody little nerd until then. I'm a grammar nazi when it comes to actual stories and written stuff (i leave out capitals when posting in forums :P), and i am a MASSIVE perfectionist, so doin NaNo is serving its purpose for me by making me WRITE FIRST, EDIT (maybe) LATER!!!! it's also doing good things for me because now i'm actually writing again, after a long and depressing period of "i have nothing to write about!!"
Next february i'm shipping off to Sydney to study a Bachelor of Creative Arts (International) at Macquarie University, which should be awesome fun, and i am really looking forward to having my student discount back after a year of working and paying full price for everything.
I am paranoid about money (and a lot of things, actually) and i LOVE children - i melt at them, lol. No, they dont rule me, but I do get very very clucky over babies...
WHICH REMINDS ME!!!!! Liz, your boy was a total sweetie, and if i actually get any money before the end of NaNovember, I am totally buying him a little chess set! Thats if you dont mind him receiving gifts from scary girls...
other than that....
I'm in a pretty serious long distance relationship (and my boy totally rocks, and he is fantastic NaNo support - every single day he asks me "have you done your writing?" i adore him for it. Well, i adore him anyway but... you know what i mean.)
I'm a Joss Whedon fangirl - <3 Firefly!!!! and Buffy :) and I'm still only int the first season of Angel... oops. :P
My NaNovel seems to be coming together a little, i just gotta spend today making my main dude into, yanno, an actual character... and then hopefully i should be ok. Anyone know a good cartographer?
and wow, this is getting long!
finally, i'm a fan of WRITING BUDDIES! so feel free to add me, y'all. we can bully each other to the 50k mark :) i also have a livejournal - http://open-embrace.livejournal.com/ its friends locked, though, so comment to be added type thing...

So I'm Nathan, although I mostly just use baz. Saves me time and creates confusion for others. SCORE. Hehe. I have had friends who have known me for years and have ended up saying something along the lines of "Oh yeah, Baz. That guy, his real name is... err, what is his real name? Do I even know his real name? Nathan? Really? Woah" I actually do like my real name though, so I'm not hiding behind the nickname. Much. ;)
I currently work at GAME in tuggeranong as a casual sales assistant. Mainly because I am a mad (Emphasis on MAD) gamer (Portal) and computer geek (Seriously. Portal) and I spend alot of time on ye olde series of tubes, (PORTAL) and hey what better way than to use the net to be productive! (He lies! LIES... but portal rocks) by doing nano.
Musically, I do like ye olde Metal, (LONG LIVE MAIDEN! Would ye have guessed ;)) but I do listen to a wide variety of music. I do tend to fall into the music snob category, but not everyone likes the same thing because that would be pretty boring, so I try not to dismiss everything until I've given it a listen.
There is the possibility I'm slightly unhinged. (Slightly? HA!) Although I do have a weird sense of humour. Very weird sense of humour, bordering on the "Is that supposed to be funny?" side of things :D. (The crap in the parenthesesesese might give that away though. :D) Yeah, so that's me. You can continue running away in absolute terror now. *Laughter*
Also, Also Wik; I'm not much of a community site monkey either, so I don't have either a Facebook/Myspace or a Livejournal. Your best bet is IRC or MSN ( Nathan (underscore) ace (at) hotmail (dot) com (Also with the email paranoia) Although I am considering setting up a blog specifically for nano/writing. Considering.

Firefly/Buffy/Angel for the epic win.
Are you lot aware that "Buffy season eight" exists in comic book form? It's pretty damn good. But then I'm a genuine whedon fanboy. It is written by Joss himself, so it is part of the overall storyline.

Idea. You wait till midnight. You type/write/mentally form the words in space time "AND THEN IT BEGINS" and promptly go to sleep. So you can claim "oh hey I started as soon as I could" When you really, really didn't. :D
