First NaNoWriMo post from a NaNoWriMo first-timer looking to get started in 2 days,

I have a novel that's set in the UK (my native soil) that deals with heightened racial tension that eventually spills over into powderkeg situation involving terrorism, hate crimes and political opportunism - I'm looking for any novels that people have read that capitalise upon the themes of racial intolerance/crime, extreme political right-wing movements, and so on. Purely fuel for the fire, not for research purposes.

The mechanics of the plot and progression of the story were inspired by the early seasons of 24. The main plot in this novel unravels over a 3-day period but is spread across a diverse cast of characters in different situations delivering unique points of view as counterpoint to the events that u nfold. Any political action thrillers with a fairly cracking pace that anyone's aware of that are out there?

Thanks in advance and good luck to any and all NaNoWriMos out there.

There are some elements of that in PD James's "The Children of Men".

Wow, those are some great ideas! Sounds like you've already thought this through for quite some time.

I, on the other hand, still have very little in terms of plot. Maybe I should go buy that NaNoWriMo-recommended book...

Thanks for the Children of Men recc, I've ordered it and hope to read it in time for a rewrite after November. Just for interest's sake, I'll also add another good recc I received elsewhere - The Turner Diaries by Andrew MacDonald.

Heh. This isn't a novel plot I've specced up on the fly for NaNoWriMo, it's a novel that I've had in the back of my head for over a year or so - along with several others. I was rather prolific at writing during University but since I became a married professional father of one, I've found my writing time and motivation decrease exponentially. So this is a novel that I already had mostly scoped in terms of idea and content and I'm now just using NaNoWriMo as an excuse to pull it all together and give myself a kickstart.

You're welcome. Another one that could fit in with a bit of your thinking ~ well, two actually as they're kind of non-sequels* ~ is Jose Saramago's Blindness and then Seeing. LOVE them!!!!

*I say non-sequel because Seeing does technically follow Blindness, even if it's like four years later and takes a while to get to the characters from the first one. I personally call it a sequel. Other people do not. (And I don't know where Saramago falls on the spectrum of sequel or not. LOL.)
