This will be my 4th Nano, and hopefully, this will be the year when I finally finish the story I've started on November 1st.

Every year I've got my first scenes plotted, I know my MC and the other characters, I have a rough idea of where the story is going, but then when I reach 50k, usually before the end of the month, I'm stuck. I'm either worn out from writing so much in such a short time, or I'm just fed up with the story.

This year, I not only know my MC, the first few scenes and how the story will continue, I also know how I want it to end. And hopefully, that will help me to actually finish what I started.

How do you prepare yourself for this month of writing? Do you have your plot all ready to go, or are you more the 'we'll see how it goes'-type? Has your MC talked to you yet, or haven't you got the foggiest who he or she is? Will you be sticking to the daily 1667 words, or will you just type till you can't type anymore? Do you have any tips and tricks for your fellow writers?

I have a very vague idea of where my plot is going, but I suspect once I start writing it will go in another direction, so I'm just going to let it. If I get stuck I'm going to kill a person off, and see where that takes me!

I'm also going to check out some of the Dares that are in the genre and reaching 50,000 forums, which are also good for bumping up the word count, and a lot of fun if things start to get boring.

As for the daily word count, I'm going to try and beat that wherever I can because for one I'd like to go over the 50K mark this year, perhaps to 65K. I want to do that because as I'm not working I have more time on my hands and would like to make the best of it. Also, I want to have a bit of a buffer in case I get in a slump around week two.

Hi All

Sounds good folks - you both seem to have a plan of action. Killing of a character sound good Hurley Murley and I also think introducing new ones is another way forward and if one uses both it should maintain a healthy balance.

I'm traveling all day tomorrow but will officially start after midnight (that is ok?) isn't it? I can always catch up on sleep on the plane.

Will be thinking of everyone in Essex and all my writing buddies . Good luck!

I started on the 12th of November last year. I finished, but I absolutely do not recommend it! I used to work with Paul (pmdonnelly) last year and he mentioned it in passing. I thought "I can do that," so I did!
