Hi everyone! Let's use this thread to introduce ourselves. Tell us who you are, what island you're from, how many years you've been doing Nano, what you do, your hobbies, etc.

I'll start:

1)Name:
I'm Maureen, but my screen name is "gogoshire."
2)Island
I'm writing from beautiful St. Kitts.
3) I've been doing Nanowrimo since 2002, but this is only my 2nd year as an ML.
4)I'm an English teacher online - teaching for University of Alaska Fairbanks, and I run a volunteer organization on the island called St. Kitts Reef Ecology Watch Group.
5)I love to write, but I've got carpel tunnel now, so we'll see how this month goes. I love to be in the water. Scuba diving is my passion. I like to hike and learn about plants and birds. I like to lime, too :)

----------
It will get done. It will be stupendous.

My name is Katrina, I'm 15, and I'm from the Cayman Islands. I'll be doing most of my writing from Ontario, Canada though, where I go to boarding school. This is my first NaNo, and I'm pumped. I write far too much. I want to be a psychologist and a YA author. It's not really a hobby, but I love to dress up and do my makeup crazy.

Hello, all.

This is my third NaNoWriMo. Sucessful in 2005 writing from San Juan, PR. Collapsed miserably last year but am back for another try from St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. I've only been in the Caribbean for three years, but it is difficult to consider going back to the States (Chicago is my hometown.) I've become hopelessly hooked on boating, deserted beaches, and living a fairly simple life. When I am forced to stay indoors, I read and play some awful acoustic guitar (should clarify: the guitar is great, the playing is awful.). Hope to see you all at the finish line. -- Joe

hi, I'm Susanne, and I'm a foreigner here, because actually I'm from Germany and I live in Kiel.

Almost three years ago I lived and worked on Tobago for three months (way too short time!) and I really love the Caribbean.

I worked in a small English school, but sadly it is shut down by now, so I can't go back there (one of my dreams). Since I've learned scuba diving on Tobago and are going to become an instructor, I still hope to be back one day.

One or two chapters of my novel are taking place on Tobago, so I'm still there at heart and will peek in here from time to time just to see how your novels grow.

Greetings from Bequia, the first in the string of Grenadine islands in the country of St. Vincent! I'm Susan, Canadian-born from Toronto then Calgary, but I have lived on Bequia for the past 11 years. This is my first NaNoWriMo (was talked into joining in by a writing friend I met online while taking a creative writing course through Humber College), but I see already that it's exactly what I needed to get my next novel kick-started. I've written three novels previously, all mysteries set on Bequia, but have not yet found a publisher interested in them. So I've continued to take online writing and publishing courses through Ryerson University, have developed a blog, and post short stories there as I write them - all the while enjoying the view from our verandah.

Good luck to everyone!

It must be me, but I have no clue as to where to start writing. I mean where is the http? where is that screen to pour words into? I expected to receive an e-mail with a link to where to start writing. I don't suppose one writes in Word and than copies everything into NaNo screen later? So please help me!! Where do I find the page where I can write my NaNo?
thank you!

2) Island: Jamaica!
3) This is my second year of NaNo! Whoo!
4) I'm currently in high school, in 11th grade at an all-girls school in Kingston. Madly enough, I'm doing this when I have my CXC exams like, next year. XD I'm crazy like that.
5) I've often been told my writing is awesome, but I rarely believe it. I'm picky, confused and almost always start over at least three times. I love food, music, friends, and a nice lazy Sunday afternoon reading the newspaper on my couch.

Hi everyone I'm Terri from Trinidad, hence "TriniT" (sorry!)
This is my second year in nanowrimo. The strange thing for me is that I'm a history teacher and it never entered my mind to write historical fiction until my story somehow morphed into that genre while doing nanowrimo! This year I'm consciously writing a historical novel one I've dreamed of doing for a long time. It's based on the life of a labour leader called Elma Francois, and it's set in the very late 19th c. and early 20th c St. Vincent and Trinidad.--ancient history for my students. It's weird writing a story where you know the ending and have all the plot details (most, sort of... who knows?). I reserve the right to make it into pure fiction! So far I'm filling in the blanks. Btw if anyone reading this is from St. Vincent and can help me get a feel for the history of the Garinagu/Garifuna/Black Caribs, I'd be really grateful. I visited SVG once for two weeks but that and a few history texts and webpages are all I have. TIA.
That's the other odd thing: last year I ended up (totally unpremeditated) setting part of my story in Guyana--and I know very little about Guyana. That novel's on hold until I can do the research or visit! Greetings to anyone out there writing from or about Trinidad.
Best of everything to all! Let's go, go, go!

Yes, TriniT, I live in St. Vincent! And I'm very interested in hearing more about your novel when it's finished. My neighbour is a historian working on the general history of St. Vincent & the Grenadines. He's done an enormous amount of reading about the Garifuna and would be a good source of information for you when it comes to doing your research and getting down the details. After NaNoWriMo is over, I'll give you his contact info and you can take it from there.

Good luck with your novel. It's funny that I'm living here on Bequia, but decided to write this current novel set in Toronto at the time I was growing up there.

I'm a retired professor of journalism and mass communnications from Norfolk State University, Virginia. I was born and lived the first 26 years of my life in Georgetown, Guyana on the mainland of South America.

This is my second year at novel writing. Last year I finished my project one week early. This year I'm already behind since I took a vacation for a few days in Charlottesville, Virginia.

My novel will be based on the life of a TV producer-director's family in Guyana. It will be entitled "Guyanese Family."

Hi S.M. Troy.
Thanks for the encouragement and the offer of a contact. It would be a great help later on in getting my facts right about my main character’s family background.
Well, your novel started in Toronto but who knows where the characters will end up? Maybe that's why I decided to focus on someone who actually lived??? No surprises?? ha! I just love this nanowrimo adventure!
Best of everything with your story.

1) Name: Shari
2) Island: Trinidad, of Trinidad and Tobago
3) Second year of NaNoWriMo, hoping to do better than last year.
4) Third year student of the University of the West Indies, studying Literatures in English (a.k.a. preparing to starve in this country)
5) Love to write, read, watch tv, and do the occasional adrenalin rush-inducing stuff, like ride an insanely twisted roller coaster at high speeds. It was great.

I began NaNo a bit badly this year, scrapping the carefully planned and plotted fantasy I had for a lighter one based off of a dream and half-planned. Still have no idea how it ends or what's going to happen next. It's great, actually.

My novel is called "Jumbie Secondary", and is based off a dream I had earlier this year about going to a school inhabited by ghosts. I had a hell of a time translating it into a workable novel, and then I abandoned it and now I'm writing it. With luck I might even fix it up enough to be published.

Hello Fellow Caribbeaners!
My name is Seannachai - it's Irish for story teller.
I was born in Ireland and I swopped that island for this one- Jamaica.
I've been here longer than anywhere else in the world now - this is home, but both places share my heart.
This is my first time on NaNo - i Ifound out about it on 5th November when reading an Airline Magasine - figured this was the kick in the butt I needed to start writing again - , so I'm a little behind - now more that I thought as I thought it was 30,000 not 50,000.
Let me stop writing this and write some more of my novel - which like all novels is based on a lot of my own experiences.

Hello to Fellow Jamdowners. If you want us to get together sometime I'm willing to do so.
Oh - I work at UWI, not in Literatures though - I also spend a great deal of my time doing hypnotherapy - don't know how much time I'll have for that this month.
I'd love to finish this.
Blessings! and Write good!

Fyah, look at all the civil servants on this board! Let me join you guys.

I never introduced myself properly.

Madison Hill, born and bred in The Bahamas, and living there too.
Have lived in the UK and Canada in the past, but not now.
Am doing NaNo for the fourth time. Am working my way through a mystery series set, yay-hay, in The Bahamas, and featuring Bahamians. Am on the fourth book now.
I have technically won NaNo twice and plunged past the 50,000 word mark last year, working on two WIPs. That wasn't an official win, but I was nevertheless pretty pleased with myself.

Cheers.
