Quickly scanning the forums, it seems as if lots of people have tried this before, and know each other well (which is lovely).
But I'm just wondering if anyone here, like me, is completely new, and rather daunted by that prospect (is 11:05 and I still am not sure what I'm writing about!).

ps not sure if introductory posts are a thing people do around here, but just in case, I'm 23, just completed an MA in English and am now at home pretending to get a job. I'm also leaning towards writing a children's novel for NaNoWriMo just to try something new.

Hi Poison Penny
This is my first NaNo too so don't be shy - just go with what you feel is right. If you read Tom Robbins pep talk - he makes a lot of sense - so 'paddle the rapids'. Use NaNo for whatever your writing heart desires and go with the flow.
I can't afford to think too much about it or I will never get the daily quota done. So I'm testing unchartered waters with this one.
Good luck to you all and just write, write write. Have fun while you do - I've got hubby supplying me eats and drinks - great stuff - he can watch footie all month with no nagging from me.
Catch you later - Annie xx

I'm new to this.
I actually thought about it in 2005, and seriously thought about it in 2006.
I've got my word count up to 681 this morning which is, well, 681 words better than either of the previous two years, looking at this positively.
I shall be writing in fits and starts around family life and a chaotic job (shifts that change from week to week), but I've committed to posting extracts to a blog to help those in whom I have confided I'm doing this help me keep on target.
Good luck

I'm also new to this. It's been a long time since I've written anything, so I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I'm just going to go with the flow and write whenever I find the urge. 50,000 words seems a long way away! Good luck all :D

Hi all
My first year too and I'm proud to say I managed to hit my word count this morning by getting up an hour earlier and doing it before work. Yay! It'll probably fall apart tomorrow as I'm going to have to write on the train into London. No idea where the novel's going but I'm strapped in for the ride.
Best of luck to everyone - I thoroughly recommend Anne Lamott's books on writing if you need a boost. I break into her 'Bird by Bird' whenever it all feels to difficult.
Cheers

I'm new to this too, well... technically I did one day last year until I realised how many essays I had to do for university. Now I'm done with that I figured it's time to go for it. 1000+ words so far, and more of an idea what I'm writing about too so keeping happy at the moment. Look forward to whinging about wordcount in the company of you fine folk. :)

Also new to this, I just dropped out of Uni and don't start work until the end of November. I still have no idea what I'm writing. I'm bored with my characters already, not a good sign.

Hi Poison-Penny,
I am totally new to this too. My novel has started well, despite me having no idea what will happen next ...
I'm a full-time housewife (well that's what I call myself ... I hate housework!) and mum to a beautiful 3-year-old daughter, who I hope is not going to suffer from too much neglect during this month!
Good luck with your novel xx

Hi Aqsa
New to NaNo, and still somewhat new to fiction (most of my writing is non-fiction - lots of it, and mostly b-o-r-i-n-g... :-( ) Discovered I already had more than 60,000 words from previous incarnations of the material I'm using for the story, but it didn't help me much: barely scraped through to the target for the day, and struggling now. Hey ho. Will get started somewhen, I guess.
For any other Colchester types, I'll aim to be in Appetite bar / cafe (up Church Walk, opposite Sir Isaac's Walk, off Headgate) most days for an hour so from 11am on - see ya there for commiserations and mutual Nano-moanings, perhaps? :-)

Hello!
I'm new to this too - I've wanted to participate for the last three years but exams have got in the way. Now I find myself 3,000 words in to a novel so bad it makes me want to cry. That post-November edit has a lot to accomplish!

Hi all
this is my first attempt at NaNo thanks to my pushy daughter nagging at me to sign up :)
I started fairly well, especially as I have no idea where my novel is going and hit my word count for the first day. Sadly, it's been down hill all the way since!
----------I have a very determined inner editor that just won't shut up no matter what so thats not helping things flow along nicely.
I'm determined to finish this though (and now I've posted this I have to! lol)

Well, I'm a few months too late for the 2007 NaNoWriMo, but I figured I'd sign up anyway for this year's. Anything that can be done before November starts, or do we just have to wait and possibly forget about it until the time comes?
Anyway, obviously I'm new. I couldn't figure out which forum to post in either, since I sort of have 3 homes....all in different areas. But I should be in Alresford at some point during November next year, when I get my week off from Uni. So I'll post here for now.
So hello, fellow Essex-ers. Or at least those around Colchester.

(I wonder if anyone will respond to this, now that NaNoWriMo's over...)

I'm new too.
----------I'm thinking of doing my own writing month, possibly April, and then doing it again in November!

Hmmm, that's a good idea. April works, although I do have uni, so I might not manage a complete 50,000. But it's probably the best month apart from Nov. since it's not too near exams.
