Hola all those in or around Cornwall (and anyone else that wishes to grace this thread ;)).

Myself, TS Rule and MagnusTyrel are looking at setting up a Nano-meet up sometime in the following week and this here is to scope out interest. Blessed as we are, we live in camborne but I'm sure with enough backing compromises can be made to where we host this amazing event (please let it be amazing).

So details I guess :

Location : First meet up will likely be pretty informal. But more importantly location is important so please discuss this so we can all come to a compromise. (local pubs are easy for me, but if there is somewhere truly awesome then please tell me, us, heck everyone).

Time : Time is quite important, I guess most have evenings free but that's an assumption so something to work on. I personally work freelance, so it isn't an issue for me (lucky aren't I)

TS has some wonderful ideas of what we can do which is good, because as you can tell I'm stumped :). So onto some likely activities barring the general revelary of being among like minded people.

Activities - Maybe trade opening chapters or something? Discuss inspiration and why you chose your novel idea etc? both great ideas from TS, no doubt more possible.

So I think that's it, I've been proactive (horrah me) and nanomailed most of those I have on my buddy list about this thread so lets hope something good can come about from this.

Discuss, etc.

On a random side note I hope everyone enjoys the fireworks tonight and over the weekend, I infact was only reminded there was a show on this morning :P.

If I missed anyone on the mails, I apologise. I think I've covered all I had on my available list.

Well, at 15 I'm presumably one of the younger ones here, but I'll probably be able to get there if there's at least someone else about my age also around :)

I'm up for it, but I'm limited to bus transport unless I've got a couple of days notice so I can (try) and hire a car. Next week's my reading week so it'd be ideal for me.

Cool we have visitors (that is in the thread I mean) -

Ok I have a few mails from people regards age, and the fact I mentioned a pub ;).
I'm cool for any suggestion if people know about halls, or other locales where we as a group can meet up. It was naive of me to think everyone was 18 and over (I'm old, please forgive me :P).

But good to see people are up for this, I'm going to see what I can uncover here in Camborne (besides pubs ahem) where we can host this :).

I try and check nano mail several times a day so here or by mail is fine.

Hi everyone

BoBFish, I got your mail, thanks.

It would be lovely to meet all of you.

I work part time at the moment, but with enough notice I could fit in with any plans. Not so sure about trading chapters just yet (after all, I don't even have a complete chapter), but what I have written to date isn't fit for human consumption.

I think I am the slowest in Cornwall right now, but I will get quicker - I must speed up if I want to complete the 50K word count.

I'll keep checking here to see where and when the meet up will take place, sorry but I don't have any brilliant suggestions as to the where and when.

Bye for now

Good to see we've got interest in this. I'm 18, by the way, so any younger writers who are up for it won't be totally on there own age-wise.

Travel is a little difficult for me as I am registered as a blind person.

Ok seems Truro might be a valid location - since I'm quite happy walking most locations these days (and no I'm not thinking of walking to Truro :P) I can take a train to Truro. Anyone heading from Camborne or Redruth would be be able to travel with me if they wanted, I've a fair knowledge of the train system in cornwall since I used to commute to University.

I've mailed Reitou about locations in Truro since he knows the local area. And I've checked camborne and so far there are 7 pubs (might have miscounted) a dozen + shops and the town square (not a nice place, trust me). So not sure if Camborne would be ideal for everyone naturally.

Truro seems like a good idea, as I think it's the place that most people in cornall are able to get to easily. There are lots of places in Truro to meet as well, including a waterstones! =p (Reitou knows that too well, I've dragged her in there too often...>_>)
But I think that Truro's a good option, what do other people think about it?

I don't know Truro /that/ well, it just happens to be the only place out of two that I can navigate around and isn't currently consisting of two piles of rubble which exchange places every morning. :P

Truro's easy to navigate really. And you should know it, considering how long you've spent going to school or college in it. =p. But I think it's probably the easiest place which lots of people can get to..neutral ground as it were. hehe. ^_^ And when were you online, Reitou?

vampire-watermelon: Since I'm avoiding doing my maths homework, that's when. Speaking of which, I better go do that. :P

Back on topic, I agree, Truro is probably the best location for a meet as it is the most accessible (tried to edit my previous message, but my laptop decided it didn't want to play that game). Though I probably won't be able to make it due to timing, and getting permission to go anywhere without playing a game of 20 questions or getting a 3 hour long lecture on some safety/security topic is near impossible for me. Let me know how the meet goes though! :)

*waves from Devon next door*

Yay for Cornwall being active this year! Places that we've used in Devon write ins, have been Exeter library, Costa Coffee, and a pub (erm.... oh what's the chain of them... Hogshead).

Just things I've found out through doing this for Devon -

Just things to consider - plug points. Coffee shops often have some of these (and wifi too) - but when asking about whether it's OK for a group to meet there (just courtesy, if you're expecting more than about 5 people), just ask if they mind you using their plug points. Chances are your write in will be 2-3 hours, so a fully charged laptop shouldn't really need a top up charge. So even if you did need them, it would be for only the last bit of the write in.

When swapping mobile numbers before the meet, do so via PM. The less personal information posted in the public internet, the better, after all ;-)

Parents were born to worry. They only have one of you, and the internet does have some weird people on it. Don't fight them, work with them. If someone is taking charge of organising the event, then if they're happy to give your parents their number, let them ring and talk. Let your parents bring you to the event and just stick around briefly to reassure themselves that everyone is OK. If they're happy, they may just leave you and come back at the end. Or they may want to just sit and read in the background. But things work both ways - if you understand them wanting reassurance, they have to understand you're there to write without distractions! Which means fading into the background. Although I have heard from other MLs, where parents have accompanied their kids to a write in, and then ended up joining in and writing a novel themselves! (which would be cool - mini family write ins at home, and rewards like ice cream or something for each 500 words written, because they have first hand experience of the challenge!)

But it's just fun - if you try a venue and find it too noisy, or not writing-conducive, then you move on to somewhere else for next time.

Good luck with it all - I'm glad to see Cornwall Wrimos can get together this year, because write ins can be a lot of fun. Just one word of advice more (if you'll let me) - establish clearly, what is the aim. You don't want to find that some people want to chat, and others want to write - the talking will be disruptive. A brief chat to introduce everyone and swap titles/genres/summaries, then settle down to write. Word wars are useful - set a timer for say 5 minutes or 10 minutes, and see who can write the most.

Good luck Cornwall! [clover]

Hola Sammy,

Was actually going to ask you about some of this stuff since you dropped by the cornwall thread originally. The library completely went over my head personally (Not sure why to be honest) and the ideas seem great, so hopefully we can all pull something together.

**Important Question**

Ok for those interested so far what days are going to be easiest for anyone to attend. Be it weekends at the Library or a Coffee house, or a particular week day list your best day(s) here so we can work on narrowing down a deadline for the first Nano-Meet.

(Again I'm easy because I am infact ancient ((at 24 years)) and work Freelance these days)

Hope to hear from everyone so we can get something going - If, as Sammy said, we need to setup a single mobile phone we contact or such then I'm ok with doing that personally. Again being 24 means I don't mind people contacting me at all, and for securities sake those that do contact me can quite happily block their number for their own peace of mind. (something to work on)

BoBFiSh - anything you want to ask, just shout, I'm online pretty much all night, during my lucnh and occasionally before work. Sounds like you've got everything covered, so here's to a good first write in for Cornwall! (or whatever you call it - I call events just for writing, "write ins", and ones for more social and chat, "meet ups". Whatever you do, as long as everyone is clear on what the goal is, you won't find someone wanting to talk about their plot, while everyone else shoots them death stares because they're trying to write ;-)

Go Cornwall! South west has to stick together, right? :D Good luck to you all!

Weekends are the best for me. I attend Sixth Form part-time, but my timetable is widely spread throughout the week so I've not got that many slots in which to fit a NaNoMeetUp. So Saturday is probably my best day.

Some sort of cafe would be best, or if the weather is lucky and everyone has laptops the Piazza or outside the cathedral would be good. I'd say the spot outside W.C. Rowes but it would be solidly impossible to get enough seats for more than one at a time with how crowded it is there. But yes, Truro is far and away the best area for me to get to; I have a free return bus ticket to use up :D
I'm not free this Sunday, but other than that I think I can spare a few hours from my weekend pretty much any time up to the 24/25th one. (Which is a day before exams start.)

Had a chat with parents about this and thought of a brilliant location; the Fodders cafe :D In case you haven't heard of it (which I expect is a fair portion of people, considering it's not on a main street), it is a nice simple food place that has plenty of room and is usually almost empty at any time other than lunch. It's off an alley between the Piazza and Boscawen Street, so it's quite central and easy to find, but just out of the way enough to not be flooded with people at all hours.

I think that Fodder's cafe is a great idea, but you would need to check with the owners if they'd mind a bunch of strange people discussing slightly odd story lines appeared in their business. Just good manners, i suppose. What kind of time and when would people meet though? I think that for most people it would be a Saturday that they could meet, but that's for those of use who are still at school or college.. =p...

Fodders sounds good. Never been there but I'm sure someone will lead me in the right direction.

So on a suggestion would it be a good plan if we as a group met at the cathedral (I don't think there's a single person who doesn't know it's location ((and for once I do know yay))). And from there move to a location we can all work with, be it a cafe or library, or more :).

So to reiterate (spelling?), suggestion is meet at the cathedral itself as a group, since we all know its location.

A location is fine, and the cathedral is a good landmark, but I think that time would seriously need to be considered as well, becuase I know for some of us after school is pretty much impossible (yeah, we're cool, at least we're in education rather than dropping out...=p) so it might have to be a Saturday, but it's something that needs to be discussed.

Ok from most reports then we're looking a saturday since most work or have school/college.

So we've narrowed it down to :

The Cathedral

On a Saturday

(slowly narrowing it down :))

Edit - not disqualifying other days thats just the current vote.

I'd like to drag everyone in the direction of Fodders after we all meet, mostly because I have an addiction to the rice crispy sticky thingys they make. And generally it'll (or any other cafe will) be packed from about 12 - 2, so I reckon arriving after the lunch period so we can comfortably get seats wherever we want to go.

This may sound like a stupid question and may be from me not reading the original post properly (my bad, I know..>_>) But for the meeting, is it to get to know each other or is it a full on writing meet? This is just pure speculation, cos I'm a nosy person. But at least it's starting to get narrowed down. And cafes in Truro are a nightmare around lunchtime.

A Saturday in Truro is fine with me.

Also, just a quick thought, but how are we going to recognise each other?

Regards the subject matter it's not perfectly settled on yet so no worries you didn't miss a thing. I think for the first one it'll probably be cool to do as TS suggested. Which was trade ideas, general chat maybe for the first half hour - hour. Then maybe do some form of writing and such.

It can be our next discussion point :D

That's a good point Crystal, something I think we'll have to work on.

I'll be honest it's not that hard (I believe) to recognize me but that's about all I can confirm

(for the faint of heart please look away now)

5'10" of Slight build (I'll look medium though) and I'll look like I not only need a hair cut, but a shave too. I tend to wear a heavy black coat that reachs about knee height and on cold days a scarf and gloves.

Perhaps if I am able I'll get a profile picture up either here or flickr so you all know me (again being 24 tends to afford you certain securities).

That might be a point we could work from, this is going quite well I think so lets keep discussing :D
