I cooked a big dinner today--even made pie--and now I'm ready to sit down and get some serious writing done.

No Black Friday shopping for me tomorrow! I'll be here at my computer. :)

Hang in there, baby!

If you're like me, then you're still in the struggle, but running behind where you should be. And especially if you're like me, this is where you have to slap yourself in the face a little.

See, I'm a procrastinator by nature, so this is the point where I have to stop telling myself that I can make up the deficit. You know the drill. "Anybody can knock out a good 10K in a weekend..." is a great line to have in the clutch, but now is the point where we try to put the pedal to the metal and make that number a little smaller.

But don't take things too seriously. And don't ever, ever lose heart. Just do what you can, and then enjoy the ride. Stare at the typo in the previous paragraph and laugh at it. Throw four sentences of pure gibberish into the mix... who knows? It might just amount to something one day. If you really get pushed into a corner, remember: everyone knows some sort of judo, a karate style kick does 1d8, and no one can defend a crane kick except for that one dude in Karate Kid part 2.

Now if you'll excuse me... I have a protagonist that needs to crane kick someone in the face. ;)

Progress!

So how is everyone doing? I am excited to report that on November 9 I actually started writing and feel excited about my project. All i did was brainstorm on ideas and out came a novel premise. While all that is work I could have done in October, since I haven't written page one yet, I got a bunch done. Can't wait for today to begin. This is further than I got last year. (all I did was create an account and stress out about it.)

...voted...started reading a novel*...started reading a book about writing novels**...thumbed through a "creative writing toolkit" type thing that a friend gave me years ago that I used to think was a pathetic way to make money off blocked writers...gone out of town...cleaned my bedroom...made thirteen new Facebook Friends...read my first Agatha Christie mystery*...played Scrabble on the computer...watched "Grammar Rock" videos on You Tube.

Hello all:

Although I wasn't going to enter this year, the pull is just too great! I was the ML for the area last year and unfortunately, my job has taken over most of my free time, so I'm just a participant this year. I am going to attempt to write some, even if it's not the coveted 50k words. If there are any others in the Rincon/Springfield/Guyton, etc area who are interested in having an hour long write-in, maybe at the Rincon library or even Route 21 cafe if they can accomodate us, post something and maybe we can all meet up.

Midnight Write-In in Downtown Savannah

Hey! So I'm a SCAD student and the president of the writing club there, Writers' Block. We're planning on hosting an open-mic evening on Halloween night followed by a NaNo write-in as midnight rolls around. It'll most likely be at The Metro Coffee House on MLK. It's really not a big official thing, so anyone's welcomed really. I know there will be at least a few SCAD kids from the club, but I'd love to see people there even if you're not a student!

Hi all you Savannah-area NaNo's, (Tybee to Pembroke, Midway to Rincon, and all points between)

I am a NaNo wannabe in SAV (signed up last year but wrote ZERO words, ouch) who plans to give it a better effort this year. I also write for Connect Savannah, a local weekly entertainment and arts newspaper. For the next issue I want to write a column about NaNo and would like to talk to, or email with, a few NaNo's--newcomers, oldtimers, you name it.

Richmond Hill NaNo-ites

Anyone in the Richmond Hill area interested in gathering for a write-in or two? No set dates or times yet, but I'm thinking of Hill of Beans on Hwy 144 (aka Ford Avenue) in Richmond Hill as a location. If I can pester Emily into letting us take over the place for a night or two. The coffee is tasty and the atmosphere is very laid back.
