16 Thackery Place #2
Sunday Dec 6th 5:00pm til the cows come home.

(House will be clean by 4:30, if anybody shows up early. Anybody who wants to come at 10am can mop the floor with me.)

Goolge or mapquest or whatever. Bull/61st is the closet intersection. Thackery has a stop light there. I am the third building (I think) on the right, just past a brick wall. The number is on the door, so look for cars parked on the grass if the door is open. Yeah, there's no driveways, but you will see it's all dirt on one part of the front lawn. Park there. It's a quick bike ride from the sentinent bean, if you are coming that way. Probably a stretch on a skateboard, but doable.

And yeah, I know word count doesn't matter in the forums. I got into a bad habit this month and it will take me a while to break it.

Pot Luck dinner. Which means come with a plate if you want, but I am just as happy to have you bring nothing.

I am making Baked Ziti. very cheesy with a meat sauce. (I am a meativore).

I always have coffee and some sort of juice. I rarely drink sodas and don't drink alcohol, so if somebody wants to bring cokes and ice that will work. I also realized I lost the board games in the breakup. or one of the breakups anyway, so if anybody has dominos or Apples to Apples or Monopoly or something to bring, please do.

Sending this link out as a mass email, too. I know we have a core group who have been coming to the write-ins on Sundays, and a few others who made an appearance. I hope all of the participants come join us, whether they wrote two words or a hundred thousand. We will be having a writing group meeting throughout the year now and it will be great prep and encouragment for next years NaNoWriMo.

So, who's coming and what are you bringing?

despair or excitement?

I looked at my nano-stats, and my actual bar is just under my goals bar, and that's okay. Then I realize in 25 days how far behind I can be at this pace.

I am excited, and having a blast. And feel like I am finally getting somewhere with my characters with an actual idea of a plot in my head and in my notebook. Although i do understand this won't be anything close to readable in December, and most likely never will be. But what a great experience.

And I get to kill off one of my characters with an icicle soon. in Savannah! Not sure the how of it yet but who and why are firmly established.

remember if you are not having fun with this, you are missing the point!

Offline Meets

It looks like there's a fair amount of interest in having offline gatherings, so let's have a discussion thread about that. :) My thoughts on the matter:

If it's going to be downtown, it should be a venue with lots and lots of free parking nearby. Indoors will probably work better than outdoors. Outside of downtown, Books-a-Million across from Oglethorpe Mall worked well enough last year. Atlanta Bread Company next to the Twelve Oaks Publix might be another option.

Whoever has the most restrictive schedule should decide day/time. I'm personally unemployed with no social obligations, so I can just show up whenever. ;)

Are you including Savannah in your novel?

I'd like to add some of the southern elements in my story. One downside is that we don't have a zoo, and my MC needs a zoo for one of the main scenes.

Other than that, I think I can add a lot of Savannah. I need an area where a person can do a lot of walking to get to places, and downtown is great for getting around on foot!
I'll need a cemetary and church for a part, also. Again, downtown is great for that.

Tybee is close enough if I need a beach scene. (One never knows where the story will end up.)

I probably won't call the city "Savannah" in my story, but there will definately be areas of the city that will show up in my writing.

Hello, fellow Savannahians! Here be a thread to introduce yourself. :)

I've been living in Savannah since 2001. I used to work at SkIO but got laid off at the end of August. The next job I find probably won't be in Savannah (marine science jobs are rare even when the economy is good), so this might be my last year writing from here. I'm also trying to conserve funds, partly by driving as little as possible, so it's unlikely I'll make it to any in-person meets - but we'll see.
