Today is day 10, and I the author search is still disabled, so I can't say for certain who in Kingston Region is leading in terms of word count. So instead, and just as importantly, I want to congratulate everyone who has written more than 5 words. That may seem like a low bar, but some of us wait a lifetime to start a first novel, and some never do. Keep in mind that Nanowrimo is not about winning, it's about daring to be outrageous.

With that in mind, even if you feel you have written fewer words than you intended at this stage, it's not too late to catch up!
One sick day could mean 4800 words or more. Two sick days could mean 10,000. Two sick days and a weekend = 20,000 words. Two sick days, a weekend, and Remembrance Day off ... well you get the idea. Yes, your boss might gripe and your family might be annoyed ... but five years from now none of them will remember. Small inconveniences are soon forgotten. But a novel lasts forever.

Also, if you want to kick start the next phase of your novel, drop by one of our write-ins. (See the regional events at the bottom of the forum page, or the regional calendar.)

Happy novelling

I also want to congratulate anyone who is still at it after 10 days of craziness. Between work, family and the rental tenants from seventh level of hell, I have had my own challenges and am wildly surprised at my ability to write so many words in such a short time regardless of them. Of course, I have been late for work several times, I have left early from work several other times, my family is beginning to wonder what alien took over my body and why it refuses to come out of the little office whenever I'm home, I've lost weight (thank you NaNo!) because I frequently forget to eat, the friends I normally socialize with on a regular basis are deeply annoyed at the way I've ignored them this month (and it isn't over yet) but, as you pointed out, when it's all said and done, I'll have a book when the month is over that wouldn't have existed otherwise.

It may or may not turn out to be something I'm quite proud of and can't wait for others to read. If nothing else it will be a memento of my temporary insanity in November of 2007. And how, in the larger picture, can I call myself a writer and *not* toss all other considerations aside in pursuit of the prime objective?

I didn't get time to update my word count yet, but I did it today. I've been thinking of ideas, and hit a good one 2 days ago.

Words flowing now. :)
