Last year some folks gathered for a write-in at the World Cup cafe inside Powell's downtown on Thanksgiving. This year, it will be open from 10am - 6pm. Is there any interest in meeting there this year? If you think you would probably attend, what time would you prefer?

ps: think you're too far behind? Take a look at *my* word count. WE CAN STILL DO IT.

Actually, Gostiee and i stayed at Powells for a while, but as they no longer have outlets, we found a suitable coffee shop open that day. I'm game for a write-in on Thanksgiving. I think we need to research our coffee shops. I wanted to stay at Powells, but wasn't a chance of getting writing done there for me.

We don't know if anyone else showed up at Powells after we left.

We ended up at Coffee Time on NW 21st. Normally open 24 hours, I think they said they were going to close at some point that evening, but I didn't stay late enough to find out. I had a dry turkey to go eat (why do people do this to turkey, it's sacrilegious... and no, I didn't cook it, I know better).

They have outlets and lots of places to sit. We ended up near the entrance on the benches, but I've since discovered the back rooms... much more comfy.

Any other suggestions?

Coffee Time isn't open 24 hours but they were open long enough for us. We did have a bit of a trip on the bus in the rain to get to Coffee Time. I probably should have put it in this year's novel, but I haven't. I'm also wondering about the Pharmacy Cafe that is just a few blocks from Coffee Time. There's a sign outside that says they are open 24 hours but I don't know if that includes Thanksgiving. I've never been inside so I don't know what the room is like, how many outlets, etc but it's worth a look.

I'll be downtown on Wednesday (I know, day before and all), and in that area. There's another place I'd like to check out as well. I passed by it a month ago but forgot the name. I'm terrible with that.

I only mentioned the 24 hours thing because someone online, not here but elsewhere in a review of CT, said they're open 24 hours... don't know... but I know they said they were not going to be open their normal hours last year...

I'm surprised my computer case didn't get soaked... man. I got soaked... and no, for the record, I do not believe in using umbrellas. hate them. last time i bought one was when I first moved to Chicago and got stuck one of their torrential downpours in summer... had to walk home and so I bought an umbrella... within two minutes, it was 'reversed' i.e. blown the other way... useless piece of junk.

I'll take a look at the other place...

I'll be 'hosting' a write-in tomorrow... crud... now I can't remember which topic I posted that in... hmmm... will have to go investigate.

Hi Amanda & Gostiee,

My plans changed, and it doesn't look like I can make it for the write-in. Peasantwitch has just posted about being in Powells as long as the laptop battery holds out, fyi.

Too bad you won't be able to join us.

I checked the other place i was thinking of... it's called Anna Bananas. Small funky place and they do have outlets... quite a few actually. They will also be open tomorrow until 2-ish.I am assuming Gostiee has checked Coffee Time...

I know I have to be up at 8 am to stuff a turkey into one of my crockpots... hmmm... should check to make sure it fits... then if i actually need a bigger one (running thing here, I have three Crockpots), I have time today... although I do want to sit down and crank out a few thousand words today...

But after I get the crockpot going with turkey inside, I'll be free to head anywhere...

I think CoffeeTime is probably best... lots of space... and outlets.

I'll go print out a table tent thingy...

hey, Gostiee, you around anywhere? Been awfully quiet there...

I'm planning to be at Powells, since they have big tables and I find it comfy. I can't get anyplace other than downtown, so NW 21st isn't a really good option for me. I'll set up at Powells for those who want to go there, between noon and four, and if no one has shown up by one I'll pack up and go someplace else (after spending a suitable amount of time shopping, of course!)

I envy those with the option to go elsewhere, but I'm sticking to public transportation tomorrow and that limits me pretty much...

Sorry if it seems like I've been lurking because - well - I've been lurking. I wanted to wait to make a commitment until I could find out when the family was getting together and I finally know, so I'm planning on going to Coffee Time. Mornings are horrible for me but I can commit to a late morning. I don't know yet how late since I have to meet family at 6:15 at the Chart House and I don't know if I will have a ride or if I have to take a bus away from Coffee Time. I'm so messed up!!!!! At any rate, I will be showing up at Coffee Time as early as I can handle and I will stay as late as I can handle. I don't even have 30k yet so I'm in a bit of a panic and a write in on thanksgiving will help quite abit.

Hopefully there will be lots of people there but if it's just Amanda and me again, that's fine too.

Something just tugs the old heart strings (or warms the cockles, not to hep on the whole anatomy thing) to see all these local places up on a board. Love the chart house. Used to Love powells before they went all running dog lackey of the imperialist war machine, charging more for books and buying used ones for less, acting less like a neighbor and more like a meg-corporation.

You're not the only one still under 30K... I'm still behind you. 'm trying, really... but it's hard to sit down at write-ins and focus... and then the cats keep messing me up at home...

I'll be doing Slow Cooker Turkey... so I can stay away most of the day and write... I'll bring my iPod... so I'm not being totally ADD and chatting constantly...

I may drive down... haven't decided yet.

If I'm not in the front area, I may be in the back... nice cushy chairs and couches back there... I'll bring the table tent.

I hope to be there by 10:00 but might not make it until 11:00. I will need to leave about 3:45 because the "ball and chain" (my ex husband who isn't legally my ex and who happens to be my roommate) insists that he doesn't want to pick me up anywhere on the route to The Chart House where we meet some family for Thanksgiving. So, I have to make him happy and be home in time for us to drive there in a timely manner.

This year nano has been more difficult for me. Every other year I was at least at 40k by now and once I finished the monday of thanksgiving week and wrote another 50K by the end of the month. I think this year is difficult because I'm not feeling as well as before and I tire easily. That given, I refuse to lose. I will find those 20k or so if it kills me!

I look forward to seeing you there, Amanda, as well as anyone else who wants to meet us there and believes that they won't be adversely affected by doing a write-in with us. After all, we ARE pretty amazing, Amanda and I!!!

At this point it'll be 11 before i get there... I'm updating the iPod (something I SHOULD have done last night, dangit), and the laptop is packed up. I had to lure JoJo the Wonder Kitty off my laptop bag... she seems to think it's a perfect cat bed for her 15 pound furry butt.

I'll be driving... so I'll be there soon... really.
