I don't know what happened. One minute, the MC was crying on this woman's shoulder about his grief for his deceased wife, the next...

*sigh*

Okay, help me. Someone. Anyone. Should he go to a grief counseling group? Meet with the counselor that was recommended to him? Find a chat/message board for support? Or continue talking to his friend and his wife's best friend or someone else altogether? Because I have almost 29,000 words, an idea for the ending and (...) in the middle.

HELP!

Yes, I think most people had the same problem at the end of the 20ks the middle sucks the most. IT's just all downhill from 30K. Don't worry about making the middle any good at this point. IF you have an end, just get the heck to the part where you know what will happen! Have the guy get taken advantage of by the lady friend while hes weak with grief or have some completely incongruous subplot pop up about a memory he had of his wife etc. A support group that ends disastrously (he gets kicked out for being drunk etc) just push through to the end and then it's smooth sailing again. You can do it!

Why am I posting instead of writing my novel? XD

I'm in kind of the same situation. My MC is trying to find his wife, as she's been kidnapped, as he's dealing with his grief over some other stuff, and I just hit a wall for a bit there. I switched from his POV to hers, and that helped some.

A good friend is someone who will bail you out of jail, but your best friend is the one sitting next to you saying "that was awesome"

Thanks. This helped some. I still don't know for sure where he's going, but neither does he, so I guess we're even. He gets to try three of the options! Yay for 20,000 words in a week.

It was around 15K where my novel devolved into a teenage soap opera. Too late to change it, I'm just going with it - knowing full well that once I hit 50K, I never have to look at it ever again.

If you can figure out anything to put in the middle of the story - that's what counts. If you find it's worth revisiting later, you can fix it up and actually make it good. For now, just get some words out - who cares what they are! The characters will figure it out themselves. ;)

LOL That's exactly what happened. My characters were arguing about what the MMC should do next and he decided that A, B AND C were all good options, at least once. At least it'll get me a few thousand more words. I can't believe I stopped writing from Sunday until today.

Hey, that teen soap thing may work out for you. Especially if there's a little humor in it.
