Trafuse and I have been talking about the wrap party for everyone, and came up with Saturday, December 1st as the logical date for it, seeing as it's the day after Nano ends, and is a Saturday to boot!
I know this is a little early...you still have lots of time to get to 50K!...but we wanted to get the info up so that people could plan around it and RSVP as well. Because of course, you will ALL want to come celebrate your victories over your novels!
Trafuse suggested that the Lion's Head would be a good place again, since they had no problem with having such a big group last time, but the time is still up for discussion: what do you guys think?
Also, I'd propose that if possible, maybe we could do something a little less like a sit-down family dinner this time, and a bit more mingly so we can talk to different people? If that is possible...I don't want to mess with their servers' minds too much. I also think some excerpt readings from finished (or unfinished) novels may be in order! Bring your babies!
Does anyone have ideas for anything else they'd like to see happen at the wrap party? Aside from some cheering, possibly some drinking, and a lot of "thank god it's over"s of course.
Suggestions and RSVPs here!!

Yay...replying to my own post....again...
I just wanted to say, the Lion's Head suggestion is just that, a suggestion. If anyone has suggestions for another place they'd prefer, that's cool too! Just bear in mind it should be big enough for (potentially) up to 15 of us, not mind doing separate checks or cash and carry, and FUNLY FABULOUS!
And p.s. you guys should do something this weekend! I won't be organizing anything because I'm going to Toronto for their overnight session, but that doesn't mean you can't!

Oh merpy, you and your replying...
I like the Lion's Head but it seems to be all about sitting down there - my audacious suggestion is Ethel's Lounge. They have good food and martinis.

Heh. You know it's getting near to the end of November when people start talking about the TGIO. ^_^
I would love to come out to KW and celebrate with all of you fine folks, but if I'm remembering correctly I have to work that Saturday night. So unless things get rescheduled at some point, I'll have to settle for simply raising a glass in your honour in my kitchen later that evening.
Best of luck in the upcoming week....

Regrettably I will be unable to make it. However, since I anticipate a whole weekend in my room will drive me crazy, I plan to bring my notebook and do a bit of longhand writing at A Matter of Taste in downtown K-town Sunday. (With its usual sense of timing, my laptop died near the beginning of this month and I have been mostly working on my fiance's old desktop. Fun times.)
Yes, I know that's tomorrow, and I know that's short notice, but I would love it if anyone could join me. A Matter of Taste is at 119 King Street West, not far from the bus station, between Young and Ontario streets. I will be there from 11 AM until at least noon, maybe later. I have shoulder-length black hair and a fairly bright green coat.

Is it big enough for them not to mind us hanging out there? Would it work for something less sit-down? I've never been in, so if you could give a few more details, it would be much appreciated!
And congrats on being almost done!!

I would definitely say it is big enough, and it might be the vibe we seek - picture a 70s diner revamped into a lounge, replete with martinis, nachos, and just enough attitude on the barkeep. the tables are tiny enough that we'd be forced to mingle around them, and i will personally commit to stationing myself beside the bar so that there is at least one person to act casual with. i like the lion's brewery beer but the long wooden tables are a bit sturdy for casual conversation.
can anyone else offer some feedback here? i don't want to push my ethel's nacho craving on anyone.
SO stoked to be finishing soon!!

What time are we looking at? I think my previous commitment is going to be bumped up a few hours, so I'll probably be able to come this year after all (even though I totally crashed and burned on NaNo...Unless of course I can manage to pull off 6,300 words/day between Monday and Friday...)

Ethel's? I've never been there. It's never been suggested before that I can recall either. Sounds like a possibility. I may have to drop in this week to check the place out.
Does anyone have a time that works? 6:00? Earlier? Later?

ha ha...I was thinking it is bit early to have too many celebratory drinks...need to make a plan.
I've only been there later on, but I'm pretty sure they have a dinner menu - i was thinking more along the lines of 7 though,

So we've got a vote for whenever, a vote for 6 and a vote for 7. So far, concensus is not happening. No worries, that's how we do things around here.
I'm going to try to check out Ethel's tonight if I can, so hopefully I can either recommend it or put it down as choice for another time. From what I've read on it, it seems nice.

I am working on Saturday, which means getting up at 3:30 and working until about 1:30 or so. I also have to go to the library on Saturday, but I can take care of that in the late afternoon.
----------As for the venue, Ethel's is fine with me if everybody else agrees to it. As for the time, I would make it closer to 7:00, but that's me. I think 6:00 might be a little too early in my case, considering the day.
And that's my two or three cents worth.

I'm fine with either 6 or 7 though 7 would probably be easier for me.

7:00 would be a good time to drop in at Ethel's - it's a much more 'mingly' atmosphere than most places, and they definitely have some good nacho's - - count me in for Saturday!

Alright, it's official. The Kitchener-Waterloo Thank God It's Over Party will be held at:
7 pm
Saturday, December 1st
Ethel's Lounge
http://www.ethelslounge.com/m/content/article.php?content_id=3
I visited there today after school and let them know that there might be about 10 of us coming in, so we have an unofficial reservation of sorts. "We'll make sure there's room for you," was the exact wording. It looks like a fun place, kinda small, but it should be OK. They have pool tables and a bar-like atmosphere, and the menu is reasonably priced generic bar food. And nachos, as pointed out. :) They do have vegetarian stuff like falafel too, though I think I may be the only one who cares about that anyway. It's right on the 7 Mainline, and not far from the IXpress to get back to Kitchener or Cambridge if that's what you need.
I hope to see everyone there!

A question for everyone -- there's a winter storm watch for this evening starting around 4 or 5pm with 10-15cm of snow expected. Is the Wrap Party still on or will people decide depending on the weather at the time?

I am certainly going to try to come out to it, regardless of the storm! If the weather is really crazy, that might deter me, but hopefully it won't get underway in a serious way until later in the evening. :-D
Hope to see you many of you there!
