Ok just generating ideas here, as this is for a future work, but the forums are always a great source of inspiration.
I've got one of those hate to love romance pairings going on. The FMC is a member of "the carremarian rangers"an organisation that hunts monsters from legend and the leader of her division as it were. THe MMC is the son of the local lord, and the captain for the military unit of the area. They had a local ranger team but their all either dead or missing, their local source of info is gone, and weird shit is happening so they sent to the rangers for help. Since their sending their best team from the capital and this place is remote this took a while, during which the MMC had to take care of something that is far beyondhis training and lost men as a result.
So when she shows up and criticeses one of the things he's done and then tells him not to worry they'll take care of everything now their here, he thinks she's a patronising little cow and they should have been here weeks ago damnit
And when he insists that he and his men will be accompanying her because he's promised his people he'll make sure that his fixed and he's not letting it go til he sees results with his own eyes she resents him for not trusting her to do her bloody job and getting in the way. She also has a defensive issue of "I was going as fast as I bloody could to get up here."
In their own way their both warriors, but he's very by the book military and the rangers are a team of 5 they work their own way by knowing each other very well and theri all a bit ...odd/. The two of them are both kinda proud and rather tempestous but by the end of the book i want them together and her pregnant and deciding to quite, (mainly cos this deals with some other issues she has).
They kinda would both admit the other is attractive at first but they wouldn't go any further than that. I'm aiming for a real "benedict and beatrice" from much a do about nothing vibe but between fighters.
I've also got a few foreshadowing moments in mind. The FMC and her brother can do magic but only by working with each other (LONG story) and her side of things can leave her completely drained to the point of passing out. He was going to actually carry her on his horse when she'd been passed out and be snarky about it later, but he's actually concerned about the girl just collapsing mainly cos he's a nice boy really and he doesn't hate her in a "oh my god die way" just a "you are so irritating why must i put up with you" way.
Any ideas for how to actually get them together. At the moment I've just got them randomly yelling at each other and him going "I could just wring your neck" and kissing her instead. Which seems a touch CREEPY to be honnest. Probably still going for a sort of xander and cordelia vibe to the actual hookup.
