Just crossed 50k. :D
And I'm almost finished, too. Just a couple of scenes and I think it'll be done, which is awesome.
I've been finishing off last year's effort, and at the moment, my (unverified) word count is 107,191 in total. I'm very happy it's almost finished. It's been a year of hard work to get it finished, but I'm glad it's almost there. So yes, very happy right now. :D

Yep, just did it. My count was about 11 words short (even though it was 100+ over on my PC), so I quickly dashed off another sentence and submitted again.
And boy, am I glad to be finished. I don't want to see another word of fiction until Feb/Mar next year.

Junaberry - are there two of you working away on your keyboard - one in the daytime and one at night? Your total is outstanding! Congratulations!
(But remember that Qaddafi isn't uploading any more words until the last minute and I expect her to be ahead of you.)
I think we are all to be congratulated, in DeKalb AND Perth for whatever words we managed to write. Think about October - we hadn't had this amazing roller coaster of a ride that is the month of November. And all these stories that we have pounded out or scrawled in journals were yet to be imagined.
Hope to see you all back here next year for another Nanowrimo Challenge with Wee DeKalb.

I still can't quite believe it, but I actually did it!
I hit the 50,000 somewhere around 8pm, but I was so worried the bots wouldn't agree with my Word tally, that I kept on typing.
Plenty of room for that, as the actual novel is nowhere near done. I'm not sure I'm even half-way.
I stopped at 8.15, much in need of a drink and a break for my aching fingers. Given that my word count then read 50,318 I decided it was worth going for the validation.
HURRAH! The bots agreed with my Word tally exactly, for the very first time. I've saved my winner icons, so I can go upload one to my L/J account and boast over there too.
I've printed out my winners certificate, complete with my name and the title of the novel, so my beloved can witness my triumph when he comes in from work later tonight.
I'd like to try and add a bit more to the count before midnight, but enough is enough. I've been at this for almost nine hours today, with only a couple of breaks for food and to save myself from screen-blindness.
My neglected children are starving. I have to go now and either cook food - or pick up the phone and order celebratory pizzas.
But first, I'm going to go make a donation to NaNoWriMo and buy myself something to commemorate surviving this insane month.
I DID it! I DID IT!
Whew!

I started today having been sitting on 48k for days. No rush, I thought. I knocked out what was probably about 2k words on a computer with nothing to word count on, then killed an hour watching telly, then came down to my laptop to check how close I'd got.
yWriter had wiped everything. All of it. It knew how many scenes each chapter had, but all the words, all the scene and chapter descriptions, all the character descriptions were gone. Not that I cared much about the other stuff, but the words! The words! (Simon, I have to admit I called you some very nasty names, almost none of which were deserved as it's probably a problem with my external hard drive).
So I spent half an hour rebuilding it from autobackups (so I then called Simon some fairly nice things for including them), and from things I'd emailed myself, but for some reason I didn't have anything for a whole 2k chunk. So I was back at 48k at 11.20pm. Not happy.
I did it, with 98 words in hand and less than a minute to spare. But that wasn't any fun at all. On the plus side, the death toll for the last half an hour was through the roof. I've been waiting a month to write that scene.

I thought about it, but I didn't feel right claiming I'd written so much in one month, so I just left the word count total running for what I'd actually written in November and excluded the rest.
Sure, no one knew I hadn't written that much, but I felt bad in doing it so I didn't, hence I still have a green bar instead of a shiny purple one. Maybe next year I'll get a purple one. :D

Hehe, I know the feeling. I have a number of projects that sit around the 30 000 and everyone said to convert one of those, but I said, no, that's cheating, so I'm not going to do it. I think tho, next year, I'll plan in October and make sure I have all the outline ready to go on 1 November.
Also, next year I should only be studying 1 unit, not 2, so I won't feel so guilty - argh! Must get back to study - 2 assignments to go (I hope). :)

Well, I started out last year with a plan to write something from scratch, but I didn't win, and the story kept bugging at me to be finished. That's the only why I kept going with it and used NaNo this year to finish it.
But, last year I did learn that I shouldn't plan my stories. It only gives my characters ammunition to change things as they see fit. XD

I found, though, it's handy to have a basic outline. What happens to the side of that doesn't really matter and is what fleshes out the characters, that's what I believe, anyway. :)

Hmm, maybe. I think I'd consider doing that of a longer novel-length work, but mostly, I just write. Even for what I just finished, I didn't have a plan or an outline. I had a very vague idea of where it might end up, but that was it. I think I prefer writing without a plan as it gives room for interesting plots to develop that might not otherwise turn up.
Might just be me though.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I managed to do the 50K in 2007 as well.
I've only just signed up for this years, and hopefully I'll have more than half the month to do it in....
