One week remaining, which means it's time for a Clean Underwear Challenge check-in!

How is your attempt at making a semi-polished novel going? I know I've spent the last two weeks getting my butt kicked by many-winged furies with bad grammar, little gods that copiously tag their dialog, and a long dreary description of walking through a never-ending grassland (which, from the reader's standpoint, did actually feel like an eternity.)

So, drop a line here if you are still working on the challenge, and let us all know how you're doing!

(I've decided on a page-based counting device to measure my own cleaning process, leaving me with 93 totally clean pages of my 214 total moderately-clean pages. Arg. This will be a week of literary laundry!)

I'm just getting started on the clean underwear phase of my novel. I'm going to finish up a description of a concert tour and then get started from page one.

First thing to go? The ultimately awful first person narratives that open the novel! Whee!

Also, my characters will finally have the same name all the way through!

It was going along really well, I thought.

I think the quality of writing is fine, the problem is linearity. Chapter 1 occurs on page 80 and I'm not sure how it all fits together just yet.

I'm hoping that once I pass the 50k mark, I'll be able to shuffle the deck into its proper order and have something somewhat coherent.

The laundry goes through the wringer on Friday. I've been able to keep it relatively on-point as I've gone along, though, even though it's cost me a few word wars (i.e. all of them). The spelling mistakes are at a minimum and unlike last year, I think I've refrained from re-naming characters halfway through. Whew!

I didn't sign up for this but I think I did a good job of keeping my undies clean during the writing process. Yes, there are edits to make, probably some chapters that will be rewritten completely but I did keep an eye on quality as I wrote, though you-know-who (read: inner editor) couldn't find me since I shaved my goatee.
