I'll be talking about this more in a day or two when I send the last official Toronto NaNo email of 2007 (*sniff*), but one of the things I'm really committed to with this year's group is providing people some ways to keep in touch after November is over. I'll be pleased as punch if you guys keep hanging out together, maybe form some partnerships to edit the masterpieces you've created (if you're into that sort of thing), and keep the spirit of what we've done this month alive!

Since eventually, the NaNo site shuts down for the off season, I want to make sure you know what other options are out there. First and foremost, I've just created a Google group mailing list particularly for the use of Toronto NaNo and Script Frenzy veterans, so feel free to add here:

http://groups.google.ca/group/toronto-nano

And use it as you'd like. Right now, it's a fully public group -- I may have to restrict it a little bit if we start getting spammed, but I'll worry about that as it comes.

Also, there's the Facebook groups for NaNo:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2346009821 (Please note, you MUST have your region set as Toronto, Ontario to join this group!)

And Script Frenzy, though I'll have to add that one in later, as I'm at work where Facebook is blocked. And there's a Livejournal group for NaNo, though it's been a bit quiet this year:

http://community.livejournal.com/nanowrimo_tdot

So please, join any or all of those, and we'll keep in touch! (I'm thinking of January for the first NaNo reunion!) And please, as we look toward the post-NaNo days, I'd love to hear anything from you as far as reactions to how the month went, suggestions for next year, ideas for events, locations, games, deposing the evil ML ... ;)

Excellent idea setting those up!

One of my goals for Nano this year was to use it to build up a lot of positive writing energy, and then funnel that energy into more writing projects between now and next November. This will give me lots of access to people to pester about those :o)

I loved it. I had a hoot! Even if some people think I'm JJ. Maybe that's why they're nice to me.

How come Toronto Nanowrimo doesn't have it's own website? :)

'Cause you haven't made one yet!

btw, Errol, I've been meaning to ask you: are you leaving the TWW chat up after NaNo ends, or is it closing down at the end of November?

I can leave it up, I don't mind.

And if I get bored, I could make a Toronto Nano website, but

  1. I don't want to step on any toes

  2. I'm lazy

And do we really want the website off of my personal website? No, of course not. It should be www.TONANO.com or something like that...

I'm not sure if anyone reads the final fashion blog, but Danielle, the owner of that site, started up a monthly get-together of local fashion bloggers. They pick a restaurant, whoever can go RSVPs and they meet for the Toronto Fashion Bloggers Brunch.

Anyway, that's an idea for anyone who is interested in a writing group of sorts. Or just likes brunch!

Oh dear. We're going to have a brunch and talk about fashion? Have you guys SEEN what I wear? I'm a geek. I'm lucky to have changed my pants within the last week.

No, sillyhead! What I meant was we could have a writer's brunch - just borrow the model of the monthly TFBB get-together. ;)

Now we have to model our fashions? Good grief.. I'm the last guy you want modelling. DJ's good at modelling and catwalks. We can ask him to model.

But Meetup costs money now to organize a group. That's why I went with Google.

Not normally - but the presence on them starts to wane real fast after November ends.

The forums themselves are cleared and put into archives sometime in September (I think) of the following year.

Only as long as we all end up sitting in a circle, cross-legged, singing Kumbaya at some point.

On that point, I shall not budge.

Could, and sometimes do - but you'd miss a lot of people that way. I don't usually check these boards between Dec. 20 or so and Oct.1.

I like the idea of an email list, though, to catch people like me who are out of the facebook/livejournal loop...

I think there should be a minimum wordcount requirement for making ridiculous demands of the group. Who's with me?

;)

It's been tried before, and it doesn't really work. First off, eventually they WILL shut down the forums, sooner or later depending on their server needs, and secondly, people just don't come to the site much in the off months. I figured, if we had something like the Google mailing list set up ... everybody still reads their email.

If people want to do it another way, I'm cool with that, too. But the reason mailing lists even still exist is because people don't generally check the same websites day after day unless they've got something cool and new every time they look (webcomics, news, etc) -- and I know from experience that they don't stick around on NaNo. In previous years, they tried to keep the Livejournal group moving to push people to stick together, do meetups, edit and so on -- but not enough people are on LJ. But our Facebook group has 170 people, and if people don't want to do that, the mailing list would send new info directly to the inbox they'll be checking anyway.

That's just where my thought processes were going.

I haven't even started on the 'ridiculous demands' yet... but thanks for reminding me...

In that case, I'll make the demand for him! Because it's funny.

(My word count thing lies. I stopped bothering to update it last Tuesday, I've got pretty much exactly that much.)

This thread is getting more and more confusing.

I'm listening to the nano music now. :D I'm going to put in my choices next year! If I can make it.

I like Ian.'s selection of Monkey Island Theme. Made me laugh it did.
