I'm just over 5k from finishing and that's it. November has been a horrible month for me with everything from getting evicted to getting expelled from university happening. Today I managed to leave my most recent copy of my book at home on my memory stick, yet another blow to my writing. If November hadn't of been the chaotic 3 headed spawn of hell month it would be an easy rise to 50,000 for me, but alas next year it shall be. In fact next year I think I could do 100,000 in 30 days if nothing drastic happens to me in the month.
Anyone else in a similar boat, coming so close and just thorwing it to the fore winds?
P.S. I'm not entirely giving up on my novel, I'm going to push it to around 100 pages, edit it myself. Have it edited by a highly skilled editing friend and publishing it. 50k just isn't happening tonight.

Almost 15 000 for me. I think I may try and get another 10 000 tonight before midnight. Haha!
Sometimes I do well under pressure.
Yeah... November was a bit of a trainwreck for me. I'd be happy with halfway, but I'm thrilled with myself now.
----------That's more than I've ever written for any single thing - even those hardcore long assignments that took me days upon days!
Haha.
Here's to the creation of meaning.

Yeah...
I hit the 42,300 mark at around 1pm, decided there was no way I was gonna churn out another 7700 words this evening, and threw in the towel.
*sigh*
But next year, there are five weekends to play with! Then -- look out, world! :-)

Yeah, my problem was that I wasted October.
Because preparation is so important, right? And I only really decided to sign up to NaNoWriMo mid-October.
What I should've done is spent October sketching out my characters and storylines so that I'd have a plan in place that I could just charge through -- when I really put my mind to it, I can knock over 50k words in two weeks, easy, I've done that *twice* in the past. I'm insanely fast when push comes to shove.
But I spent October cleaning. It was sort of a project I'd spent half the year preparing myself for, so I spent October cleaning, and spent *November* sketching out my novel in terms of plots and subplots and character growth and such.
I finished my novel-pre-work today, so I'll probably have the first draft by Christmas, but it doesn't count if you do it in December, does it?
Eh, I'm not too disappointed. I won NaNoWriMo last year, and I've written two novels since then, so I know I can do it.
Here's to next November :).

Oh hell yes. I gave up sometime during school - I just couldn't catch up. My characters bored me cause I didn't know them. Like Peter, I wasted October. Maybe next year I won't be so damn busy.

I failed big big time. I just had a social life during the holidays. It was horrible!

Actually, I suspect that was part of my problem. "I know I can do it." Having finished NaNo successfully twice, maybe I just felt there was no urgency to prove myself again...

I felt that as well, but I didn't necessarily consider that to be a problem.
I mean, the point to NaNoWriMo is to force people to sit down and be creative, to just get the words on paper to prove that it can be done. I consider it that, if you want to prove you can climb Mt Everest, you only really need to do it once. No guilt there, you know? If you can do it, then you can do it. It's just a matter of scheduling.
