I'd love to see all the finishers post here. You deserve the recognition. Thanks, megankent, for hosting a Friday celebration. I don't think I'm going to be able to do one; I've felt miserable all week.

By the way, you won't see my name here. I did succeed in starting a couple of stories in my ongoing and long-neglected three writing projects, and that's enough success for me. I probably wouldn't have written a word without NaNoWriMo, so it's all good. Like my Samuel Beckett quotation says, I'll fail better next time.

"Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better."

Congrats to the two early finishers! Marcy, you didn't even have to take off from your dance class to make it--I'm impressed! I think a finisher will be allowed to arrive at the last-minute write-in/celebration. Besides, a lady--even if a writer is supposed to become accustomed to 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration, especially in November--doesn't sweat; she glows. With that purpose banner, you deserve to glow.

A zillion more? You are you emulating, Marcel Proust? Or just a whole lot to say about some fascinating fictional people?

Speaking of whom, one sometimes gets "Easter eggs" in books. I think it was in Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.'s "Jailbird" that the usual disclaimer about resemblances to real people are unintentional was mocked very amusingly, especially rewriting it to something like "all people are completely coincidental"--meaning people in the real world, not his book. I haven't been as thrilled with the books of his I've picked up lately, but I find his weirdness right up my alley--another writer I'd like to write like, but in my own way. Others include, in no particular order, Samuel Delany, Robertson Davies, and John Irving.

And again: CONGRATULATIONS! Let's see a few more here by tomorrow afternoon, when all of you halo winners get a chance to post your names. First, there's celebrating to do AWAY FROM the keyboard you've been changed to.

With four hours to spare. I'm doing a little happy dance over here. I wish I had a little animated gif. Thanks Marcy and Christine for all your cheerleading. You are rockstars for finishing a week early. Everyone else, keep up the good work. You took on something amazing, and whatever you accomplished is fantastic. Go SB NaNos!

This is my third nano, my second win....my first ever posting! I am way down here in calabasas but i feel more connected to santa barbara than los angeles. I came from behind - i started out this week in the mid 20's somewhere - i almost threw in the towel...but i put my head down and walked into the wind.... and finished today at 2 p.m. - this feels soooo good! whatever your final word count....this is good juju and the world is a better place tonight because of the creative juice produced by you all! thank you especially writerdude - you are eloquent, generous and dedicated - we are fortunate to have you. so until next time -

good night and good luck

I'm sure there were more finishers, but congratulations to the small bunch of you who posted! Thanks also to Lisi, and congratulations on joining the "posting group" with your very first post. I look forward to hearing more from you next year. (By the way, my wife, Lisa, spells her nickname "Leece"--but I suspect that yours is a full name.)

Blush, gulp, and thank you for the kind words about my alleged leadership of our no-longer-little (207 members) group of Wrimos. I'm taking your note as 1 vote in favor of my continuing as Municipal Liaison for next year. My word count of zero isn't accurate, but I did all my writing in a steno book, by hand of course, and didn't transcribe it onto my computer. I could have estimated a word count, but I didn't. Next year, I truly intend to write, and something good! Or at least long ... I'm not setting a very good example . . .

Thanks again for posting, and CONGRATULATIONS!
