If anyone is still listening . . .

Have you finished your book? If so, this is where you can give yourself a shout out, and inspire the rest of us to keep up the slog.

Hey DK,
At just over 50K words, I'd calculate I'm about halfway done with my book. The first draft, of course The very rough and probably verbose first draft...

I think there are a couple of people planning to continue the craze through December, but I for one could sure use the encouragement of those who achieved novel closure :-)

Hey tanguera22! How cool that your online! Great minds, etc.

I'm not sure, but it seems like a lot of trade fiction is more at the 100K mark you're shooting for. The longest thing I could ever spit out is at the 65K range, where I think this year's is going to end up. I am respecting your output!

My work from last year, Undertow, weighed in at 63.8K. I had to fill in some chapters, especially at the end. I procrastinated and procrastinated, and finishing it is still on my To Do list. So, my philosophy for this year is to work on Scorpion every day until it's Done. Even though I'm burned out, I need to keep up the momentum, or the energy will dissipate. That's what this thread is about for me.

I did manage to write a scene I liked yesterday . . . I had planned to have my typical agonized conversation featuring tears, confessions, recriminations, etc. Instead, the characters took over, and the results ending up as:

“¡¡Run!! ¡¡Run!!” sobbed Xochi.
Ignacio ran out the door and began hopping away, trying to get his pants on.
“¡¡¡Ruuuun!!!”
Another shot went off. Ignacio took off down the street, tripping over his pants. Something hard slammed into the back of his head.
Fortunately, it was only the skull.

I don't think something like that would have come out a year from now.

I have no idea if I'll reach that mark... I'm just guestimating about how long this thing will be if I actually write everything I think it's going to take to tell the story. And after 50K, I still have no idea how to describe the story. At the TGIO party Saturday, a very young attendee sitting next to me asked me what it's about. It took me about 10 minutes of tortured description to finally blurt out, "I'm not sure"...

Ergo, it must be "literary" fiction :-)

I'm out the door. See you on line!

Hey Deli and Tanguera!

It's funny that the post title "Shout out to those who finished their book!" attracts the people who NEED to finish. Perhaps those who have actually finished are long gone! ha!

Yup, I am in the same boat as both of you :) Also, I've been there before, you know, the place where finishing the draft sits idly on the to-do list for almost a year.

Do not let that happen to you. Not this year, says I! I'm right there with both of you, keeping the momentum going! Boo yeah!

Don't wait until Saturday to continue writing!

I'm trying to set aside a consistent time each day, free from distractions. Wait, what am I doing on the internet now? I should be writing!!

Hope to see you Saturday!

Hi. I am still trying to get a schedule and commitment to finish my book. Have quite a ways to go. You 2 or 3 are encouraging me. However, I am so tired physically and brain-wise, it is very difficult to write still. I expect that will improve shortly, but still recovering from the big load on Thursday and Friday. So keep up the good work and we will cheer each other on to publication. That is my goal anyway! Blessing to you all. --Me

Captivating Lady, just rest your brain a couple of days, and then get back to finishing your THIRD novel. I"m soooo jealous. This one's my first. And I still don't know what it's about...

Done.

66,117 words.

Last line:

The scorpions were crawling in all directions, over and under each other, wondering what had just happened and what to do about it.

Sorry, I guess that was kind of a repellant last line, especially taken out of context.

Now about you folks . . . I'll be checking here regularly . . .

Hi, everyone ~ I'm glad to know there are so many WriMos who are still active and planning on finishing their novels.

I gave myself a week off to gorge myself on reading, which I had to curtail during NaNo. However, at 11 a.m. this coming Sunday morning (12/9), the WriMos who had been doing Write-Ins at the Coffee Table on Rowena in Silverlake are supposed to start meeting again and you're all invited to join in, if it's in your neck of the woods. I need to make a couple of calls to be sure the others are still on for it. If you're interested, send me a NaNo message and I'll let you know when & where the meeting will be for sure.

BTW, I joined NaNoFiMo, though I haven't really done anything on the site.

I am determined, if sleepy. I'm going to Groundworks this morning, and would like to try making Coffee Table tomorrow. I need to get re-motivated.

Not quite. I wish you all the best in your efforts at achieving completion. There are no two finer words in literature than "The End."

Still not done with my book. I've discovered that after NaNo, it's easy enough to write 1000 words in an hour, sitting at a coffee house...but I have to get my butt TO that coffee house to make any headway.

I'm also torn between finishing this novel, and proceeding with the rewrite on the one I wrote in 2004. There's some fantastic advice on rewriting in the Novel Draft Aftercare forum which is inspiring.

Everyone who's slogged on and continued with their novels deserves another color-bar. I'm not sure if the numbers are locked at this point - anyone want to try and see if you can increase the number on your bar?

102k and still going..

I got my 100k on Dec 31, so I was happy about that. Back to back Nanos!

But I'm still not finished and I don't know when I will be. Ah well.

I've decided to split my 50k for January among two projects that I'm working on. This nano '07 that refuses to die, and my nano '04 that needs some cream in the oreo center. Pardons, it's 6 am and I'm still awake. Yay for winter vacation!
