TGIO Party Details!!!

We are in the final week of NaNo- and that means turkey and late nights as we push for the 50K mark! It also means it is time to think about the TGIO Party!!! Never fear, your ML's have been thinking about this all month long and we have some details to share with you.

The party will be from 4-7 pm on SAT, DEC 1. We are holding it at PULPIT ROCK Church at 301 Austin Bluffs Pkwy, just east of Nevada. (Sorry, that was about as central as we could get, it is very close to I-25 so those coming from north and south should be able to get there without much trouble).

Bring your favorite pot luck dish- we will provide drinks, paper plates/bowls/cups and such. There is a kitchen we will have use of for small clean-up and very limited prep. Try to bring your dish ready to eat.

All Wrimos age 16 and up are welcome (Wrimos aged 15 welcome with a parent, under 15, have your parents email me to chat, please!). Feel free to bring along spouses/family members who have helped you in your push for 50K!

You will also have the chance to read a selection of your novel! Please adhere to these guidelines to help us with time:

Max of two pages, double-spaced, one inch margins, 12 pt Times New Roman font (I know, picky, but we want everyone to have a change to read). You will get to give a short (like 2 sentence) intro and then read. Please edit for clarity, spelling, grammar and keep the content clean for all ears. If you want to have your work read but aren't comfortable reading, bring it and we will have someone read it aloud for you!

IF YOU CAN MAKE IT, please RSVP in this thread! As always, questions are welcome (NaNo mail or email me please).

PHOTOS of Colorado Springs Write-Ins

We've been having such productive, albeit over-caffeinated, write-ins around Colorado Springs. Maybe you were there! Maybe you're just curious as to what these things are like. Either way, you can take a look at our write-ins at Shutterfly. Here's hoping that you will be in future pictures!

Summertime Blues

It's summer already! You guys, we have only gotten together once after Nano! I need the adrenelin of meeting with everyone to get encouragement (or maybe it was the strong coffee at Panera?). Anyway, my schedule is very much open now that school is out, so if anyone wants to get together to just dish or to write or to plot for the not-too-far-in-the-future upcoming Nano, I'm in! Hope your year is going well and that everyone is in good health, at least physically. Considering what we do every November, I won't speak to our mental status. Take care, Kelly
January Write-In!

Yes, we are going to have "off-season" write-ins!! I hope you are all as excited as I am about getting together again to flex our creative muscles and pound out some words. The January write-in will be held on January 26th (a Sat) from 4-7 pm at the Panera on Powers.

Depending on the interest level and participation, I will see about holding these at other locations around town in the coming months (if there is low interest/participation, then I'll keep it at the Powers one because I'm there all the time and it is easiest to schedule there where they know me well!).

Hope you can make it!

When: Sat, Jan 26, 4-7 pm
Where: Panera Bread on Powers & S. Carefree
What: 1st 2008 Write-In!!
The party was great!

I don't know about you guys, but I had a great time. There was great food and nice folks, and some folks we hadn't met before. And the novels! It was so interesting to listen to other people's stories! I have to admit that the 'cranberry juice' scene from Samil's novel was rather unexpected...it began in a somewhat humorous vein, but then--WHAM! Anyway, it was great. I hope you all consider doing once a month write ins. I'll be there if we do 'em. K and D
Where is the strangest place you've written for Nano

I saw this on the All-Ages Coffee Shoppe forum, but I thought it would be more interesting for us, since we know where the others are talking about. I would have to say the stranges place I've ever written for nano is in the bar at the Double Eagle Casino in Cripple Creek. My hubby and folks wanted to go last November, and I would have rather stayed home. But, I sucked it up and got a spiral notebook and lots of pens. Then my hubby (bless his heart) offered up his laptop and an external disc drive. I probably got about 3000 words written there in the bad light with the bells and whistles going off all around me.

Hey all-

The list includes:

FFORain (Greg)
Vikinggoddess (Erica)
sappholococcus (Annalisa)
LarnizaHope (Shelley)
Wasabisan (James)
writerlyhabit (Brandi)

If I do not hear from you by the 7th of December and you have NOT paid for your shirt, I will release it for someone else to purchase (if you already paid, I will hold your shirt until the end of December). If you know one of these people, please give them a friend poke. Thanks!!
The Soundtrack of Your Novel

Are you listening to any particular music to inspire you while you write? Or is the sound of clacking keys enough? What are you using as your inspiration as you weave your novel this year?

As for me, I've found that bands such as Dead Can Dance, Enigma, and Eyna are doing well to inspire my scenes about my protagonist who has run away with a unique but sort of scary freakshow circus. Dead Can Dance even has a song on Labyrinth called "The Carnival is Over" which is perfect to set the mood.

Thank you, Sara, for being our Colorado Springs moderator and cheer leader.

I'm not sure I would have written 50,000,--much less nearly 80,000--words this month but for your encouragement and gentle guidance.

Hope you're as happy with your noval as I am with mine.

Ended at Midnight

A fabulous congratulations to all of those who finished their novels by midnight!

I just finished writing a few minutes ago, exactly at midnight. A quick little funny fact: I actually had to modify my time zone to be able to update my word count.

I was wondering, who else finished writing at midnight or close to on the last day?
The CO Tees Have Arrived!!

Yep, that's right- I got a box full of tees delivered to my door today!!

I'm sorting and making sure everything is correct and then I'll start contacting you about picking them up. I am HOPING to make the Sunday write-in so I can hand shirts out there (make sure you go either way, it is at Shove Chapel and will be loads of fun!).

They look amazing and I can't wait to see us all showing them off around town :).

And a friendly reminder to those who haven't paid me yet- please contact me ASAP about sending a check or when you can get cash to me. You will NOT receive your shirt until I have your $!
Friendly Competition for the 50k

Alright, I know last year we had a competition going to see who could finish first in Colorado Springs. So this is the forum for a friendly competition to achieve 50,000 first. I know that Goerge and I have been heavily competing, and because of it we've been far exceeding what we were expecting. In fact, we're currently on track for approximately 140,000 words by the end of the month. I invite all of you to join in our competition.

I'd like to announce that, although Goerge was beating me by 20 words this morning, I was (I am) ahead of him since about lunchtime.

Good luck to everyone!
What AREN'T you doing?

I'm just curious. We all have to let something slide to get those words in every day.

Me? When I'm stuck, I do laundry. So at least everyone in my house still has clean underwear to wear.

But I don't think I've swept the floor since Halloween. OK, maybe once, but that WAS almost a month ago.

So what have you all been letting fall by the wayside in your ruthless quest for 50,000?
Colorado Springs Dares

This is a dares forum for the CO Springs region. The actual dares forum (in reaching 50,000) is often lengthy, so, like last year, I feel we should have our own. For those of you unfamiliar with the dares, each poster provides dares of items for people to include in their novels. You can take as many of the dares as you want, their primary purpose is to stimulate the brain, but last year I made a whole novel based off the dares.

I would also suggest holding a friendly regional competition to see who can include the most of the regional dares (no fair taking your own). I'll start:

Include a master of cats in your novel.

Include the phrase "Let's make this quick, I want to get some food before I go in to work"
+ point - The phrase is in reference to speed wenching.

Have a character get struck by lightning in Devil's Playground (a rock formation near the top of Pike's Peak)

Have a person live in a Queen Anne Victorian style house.
+ The house includes a cylindrical tower
++ The house is painted in three bright and unusual colors

Have a character get buried in snow that a snow plow pushed on top of them.

And just for kicks: include 5,000 emo kids in a non-concert setting
----------

"Without her, I was less than nothing, a crippled corpse leeching slowly away, fading into the never-ending abyss, falling into the chasm of cataclysmic chaos, a soul left hear

United States :: Colorado :: Colorado Springs
