Merry Christmas!

In the spirit of Christmas, and because you fellas LEFT ME OUT of the freakin' mailing list (humph!), I offer you the following, to be sung to the tune of "Deck the Halls":

Deck the halls with gasoline
Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Light a match and throw it in
Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Watch the school burn down to ashes
Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Weren't you glad you played with matches?
Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la!

Especially popular when I was still in secondary school. College was much more bearable, thank God :P

Merry Christmas, everyone!!
The Aftermath

Not so sure if anyone still logs in here, now that it's over but anyhow, no harm in trying to keep this thing going I guess.

For the benefit of those who did not come along for the drinks after Paddington, the drunken activitiies included :

1. Huge amounts of alcohol
2. Camera-grabbing
3.Beer grabbing
4. Top removing
5. Dirty dancing
6. Head patting
7. Guest appearance by Cousin It of Addams Family fame
8. Random sex (of course)
9. Exchange of bodily fluids - sharing of roti canai and roti planta
10. Corruption of young and innocent minds.

I think i sum it all for everyone when i say, I think this year Nanowrimo has been a success, at least in the whole meeting new friends aspect (maybe more than the reaching 50,000 words aspect).

I find myself wondering though whether everything stops here and that we will all regroup again next year or will there be some form of continuance of this craziness.

I can see that the people in facebook are already constantly spewing messages at each other but not all of us are on facebook. Should we continue in this forum or find a different place to continue communicating? I think Chet suggested that we set up a place where we can all post photos because oh there were so many random shots yesterday worth posting up to the group.

So yeah, basically, i just want to know, now that it's over, where do we go from here?

P/s - i just realised that this whole thing i've just wrote sounded rather solemn and all that which was so far beyond my intention. I had a great time yesterday with the alcohol ... and the people of course! Mild hangover though but totally worth it of course.

----------

Since we've had so much fun this year, it would be a shame not to keep the momentum up. Have created two groups, one in Facebook (for events and such) and another group on Vox for writing etc etc.

Flash fiction

Just something I threw up in five minutes:

(yes I know my main nanonovel needs working on, but it's difficult coming up with dialogue for my characters since they're almost constantly arguing)

There was once a hero known as Andrew the Invincible. He came from a land far, far away from here, a land where there are no men except Andrew, and many fair and vivacious maidens who could only birth more maidens. From this land he rode, on his trusty steed, to our land to save us from the evil forces of the Dark Warlord Dustbunny. This is his story:

On his trusty steed he rode into town, and all the townsmen stopped and stared at this tall, handsome stranger, dressed in the jet - black uniform of a colonel, boots and medals polished and glinting like miniature suns, a pressed - steel sub - machine gun slung over his back, cap on head at a cocky, authoritarian angle, and a majestic black mare that trotted smartly down the cobbled road. The townsmen had never seen such a person before, and the attire the stranger wore was totally alien to them. They held their tattered rags and felt a sense of shame. When the stranger, on his smart horse, continued unabashed down the road, the townsmen turned to each other, communicating silent messages of ' I'll meet you at the tavern and we'll talk about this.' The stranger stopped his horse outside the house of the head hooligan and dismounted. The head hooligan came outside, and addressed the stranger.

"Who stands before me, dressed as a noble, knowing full well no noble would dare walk these roads? Who art thou?" challenged the head hooligan. Seven of his hoods came out and stood menacingly flanking him. The townsmen drew back,
gasping.

"I didn't walk, I rode down these roads," said the stranger, and the townsmen started at the sound of his voice.
"And I'm taking over."

The stranger swung his weapon of his back, and released the safety catch. He then fired eight neat bursts of two rounds into each of the hoods, dropping all eight within seconds. The townsmen scrambled for their lives, tripping over
stalls, bins and each other in their panic. When all eight had been dropped, the stranger slung his weapon over his shoulder, removed his hat, tucked it neatly under the left arm, and strided over to the bodies.

" I'm now in charge," he boomed, and townsmen everywhere cowered in drains and under tables. "No - one had better f*** with me, or I'll kill them, sure as I killed these eight."

And so the stranger, who was Andrew the Invincible, established himself as the chief of the town of Bandarsun Way.

----------

The Code Monkey thread

Hey all, I thought I'd start a thread. Since Code Monkey seems to be so popular, I thought I'd reintroduce a classic parody. This one's about 12 years old and is clearly inspired by Dr Seuss. If you haven't read Dr Seuss or don't like his work, you've no business being here! :P

The parody is copyrighted, though. Copyright included at the end.

A Grandchild's Guide to Using Grandpa's Computer

Bits Bytes Chips Clocks
Bits in bytes on chips in box.
Bytes with bits and chips with clocks.
Chips in box on ether-docks.

Chips with bits come. Chips with bytes come.
Chips with bits and bytes and clocks come.

Look, sir. Look, sir. read the book, sir.
Let's do tricks with bits and bytes, sir.
Let's do tricks with chips and clocks, sir.

First, I'll make a quick trick bit stack.
Then I'll make a quick trick byte stack.
You can make a quick trick chip stack.
You can make a quick trick clock stack.

And here's a new trick on the scene.
Bits in bytes for your machine.
Bytes in words to fill your screen.

Now we come to ticks and tocks, sir.
Try to say this by the clock, sir.

Clocks on chips tick.
Clocks on chips tock.
Eight byte bits tick.
Eight bit bytes tock.
Clocks on chips with eight bit bytes tick.
Chips with clocks and eight byte bits tock.

Here's an easy game to play.
Here's an easy thing to say....

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
And the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report!

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
And the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
And your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
Then your situation's hopeless, and your system's gonna crash!

You can't say this? What a shame sir!
We'll find you another game sir.

If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
Says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
But your packets want to tunnel on another protocol,
That's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,
And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss
So your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
Then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'Cause as sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang!

When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk,
And the microcode instructions cause unnecessary RISC,
Then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM.
Quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your mom!

Take my love, take my land,
I don't care, I'm still free
Mid Week Write In Follow Up

Hello peeps. I thought eaglewing will do live updates like duriing the kick off but since she didn't let me start a thread
.
Write ins are good! I've up my word count by about 3k. Granted 2k of it was taken from someting that' i've written before but neverteless, the words just flow so much faster today.

So wat did you peeps missed? Well, Nanowrimo stickers! Aweesommme! Firefly DVD (Thanks Sigma83!) and the exchanged of bodily fluids. No kidding! Well , it wasn't all that dramatic. Basically someone accidentally drank someone else's drink.

Were there talks of random sex? Not really. Well not as much as the first time i guess. Although there were singing. i_serae and sigma 83 burst into a rendition of code monkey???!!.

I am now utterly sleepy eventhough i had so much coffee. It's been a good day, better if there were alcohol instead of coffee but one has to make do with whatever's available.

And yay, there's another write-in next week. Woohoo!
On lifting your spirits

Perhaps some of you are beginning to feel the hopelessness of staring at a blank page on your wordprocessor or paper.
(Chet sees a blank line, ahahaha. Sorry, couldn't resist.)

And you're thinking a lot of thoughts that aren't helping like:

My novel sucks.
My characters bore me.
I don't know what to write next.
I must have been crazy to try this.
ZOMG, 50,000 words and I'm not up to 1000 yet.

One word at a time.
One sentence at a time.
One paragraph, one page, one chapter.

And remember this: NaNo is like a marathon. Yes, there will be some who get to the finish line soonest but at the end of it, everyone will be cheering you on to finish. To cross that line that marks the end of your novelling journey.

Everyone here, in this forum, in this glorious global endeavour, want you to succeed. We're all rooting for each other. We're all rooting for you.

So come, my Wrimos and take again pen to paper or fingers to keyboard and let the words flow until you get to the very last magical two:

The End.

----------
Stand for something, lest you fall for anything.

Asia :: Malaysia

MORE...stickers and a Writein.

Guess what? NaNoWrimo sent over the OFFICIAL stickers for NaNo (which will be familiar to the ones who attended the writeup).

But these are the real deal, unlike what you might have seen which were just printed in lieu of NaNo sending over the actual things. :D

So anyone who wants them can come see me at the next writein.

I suggest Amcorp again, same place and probably time.

:( Sorry can't see you on weekdays Chet but hope we can schedule a TGIO party that you can attend.

Time: 10.30am
Place: Starbucks Amcorp
Date: 17/11/2007

It's cosy and has Internet. And the rule is - you must write your daily quota of 1667 while you're there. We'll have a few writer kickstart activities in the beginning.

Or we could have it at Marcos Pizza at Kelana LRT :p No internet though but if you don't have a laptop, you can either write skeletons of what you will put on your computer later or pick the brains of your fellow Wrimos...without interrupting their flow of thought too much, though.

Malaysian WriMos! UNITE!

I found myself thinking, what a fantastic way to meet new people! This Malaysian chapter of NaNoWriMo brightens the light of hope in my currently sublime social life. (That is to say, it's evaporated into thin air)

So this thread is to find out where you guys are, and see if we can't get some lines of communication going in *gasp* real life. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thought to myself 'I wish I could meet people like me, who enjoy creative expression, like reading things, and won't run in fear at the mention of the word sci-fi.'

...I _am_ not the only one, right?

----------

Meet up follow up!

Thanks for coming guys! You really made my day. That was more fun than a really fun thing. (People who left early: You missed the inevitable turning of the conversation towards sex. If you think Naoko's random sex stuff was dirty, you have no idea what went on later. Let's just say I am glad I have the anonymity of the internet to protect me, mwahaha)

Eaglewing has proposed for more meets (hurray!) and writeins for us to gather and be creative. (Read: Talk crap)

I promised a Firefly DVD to everyone who shows at the next meet, and I am a person of my word!

Iseare: Thank you so much again for Game of Thrones. I've read the first twenty or so pages, and it is glorious. I'm torn between continuing, and putting it aside because I am sure I will become a total wreck after finishing it, staring blankly at my NaNo novel going 'I am not worthy... I am not worthy...'

And to Aquilo, Good Bye Chunky Rice = heartbreaking. What a fantastic book.

There's even an awesome widget that shows the total wordcount in a region! So come on, people, add to the Malaysian wordcount (wouldn't do to have the S'poreans beating us. Hahaha)

Also, the Word War widgets are great fun. Challenge a writing buddy today!

Questions About Publishing

I'm a Malaysian teenager and I would like to publish a book independently.
I did a small scale one with 'Project:alle' but my band has come up with a musical system that we feel could be rather marketable. In other words, I want to write a music-related book and sell it independently. And I want it to be professionally binded.
That aside, I'll only need to print a 100 copies at most. Probably only half that, if things don't look too well.
Can someone please point me to the right direction? Maybe give me the number of someone who's willing to publish on such a small scale. Thanks in advance. My personal e-mail is linkinwayne@msn.com but it's probably better to just message me at 0166332898.

And as a sidenote, Linear Equation, my band, is holding auditions to fill up the band spaces before recording our second studio album. Kindly contact me for further details. We're looking for a drummer, a rhythm guitarist and a vocalist.
Kick-Off Meet-up

Following from what eaglewing posted here, below are the details of the kick-off meet-up.

Venue: Starbucks AmCorp Mall
Date: Thurs, 8 November 2007
Time: 10:30 a.m. onwards

Attending:

1) eaglewing
2) chet-a-box
3) add your name here
4) and here
5) etc.

Please RSVP, so eaglewing will know how many goodie bags to prepare.

Please copy and paste from where it says "Attending" and include the numbers, and add your name to the last blank number.

See you guys on Thursday.

Oh, I took the liberty of putting the venue at Starbucks AmCorp Mall (eaglewing's original suggestion was either AmCorp Mall or KLCC) cuz that was where we had our kick-off party in 2004, the one that led to publicity in The Star, etc. Hope y'all don't mind.

Now, get back to nano-ing!

----------
