Write-ins....?

Are there going to be any write-ins this year?

Like in the city centre?

Lets try and get this part of the forum flowing, it seems to be dead

----------
You can spend a lifetime being accepted by everyone else, but if you cant accept yourself, then is it really all worthwhile?

Introduce yourself

Hi - I'm Stephen aka Rolnikov. I've been taking part in NaNoWriMo for a good few years, and at this point I think I'll be writing novels in November for the rest of my life even if the official event comes to an end.

My first year I failed, because we had a baby halfway through the event. Since then I've finished four novels while taking part: The Fear Man, His Nerves Extruded, The Doom That Came to Sea Base Delta and The Day the Moon Wept Blood. The last three are part of a rambling Doc Savage-ish series about a bad poet trying to put together the perfect band. I'll probably continue that series next month with something called Life and Death in a Spherical Spaceship. I don't quite know what it'll be about yet.

In my first couple of years I wrote a little bit every day in the evenings, but for the last couple of years I've booked all the Fridays off work and written in two or three huge chunks over the weekend. Both ways have been a lot of fun.

Last year I did my writing in yWriter, which I found to be a huge help with planning a structure for the novel. Plus, it let me write in green ink on a black screen, which was super cool. I've also got a battered old Alphasmart which is good for write-ins.
Reason for Writing?

'Ello! I'm Faith, a newbie to the NaNoWriMo phenomenon, and I was just wondering why everyone else does this?

I mean, the self accomplishment of writing 50k words in a month is pretty high up the list, but is there any other reason?

Like someone challenged you to do it and it's a "Write off" between both of you, or you're planning to do it and get sponsored.

Just me being inquisitive again :D
----------
"Being there is not simply enough. Sometimes you have to speak up too."
Novel writing handout

There was a novel writing handout that I personally found very helpful last year. Does anyone have the link to that site please?
University of Birmingham, anyone?

Is there anyone out there who goes to Birmingham uni? A couple of people are trying to set up a creative writing society, something which is currently sorely lacking at the guild. It would be mainly focused on actually writing rather than critiquing each other's work, probably with themed lunchtime writing meetings and perhaps outings to places like the Barber Institute, the botanical gardens, and even the canals or the city centre.

However, in order to become a proper society we need to provide the guild with the names of 20 lovely people who will say that they are willing to join. So, on the off chance that there may be Birmingham uni students on here (because what better chance is there to advertise a writing group than on the nano website), feel free to send me a message showing interest and I'll give you some more info when I hear it.

Thanks!
:-D
