This is in no way a reflection of any downside to our group. We're a great bunch of folks, with a great mix of people who all get along. These guidelines were created last year and put together by Gale, and helps to avoid any problems in our group. Just remember, if you have any questions or concerns please contact either Gale or myself privately :)

HammerWriMo Group Norms

1. We are a group of writers, and we aim first of all to support one another in our writing endeavours.

2. We commit to treating all members of the group with respect. Specifically, we refrain from put-downs of other members, and we respect their right to have their own beliefs, lifestyle, cultural preferences (music, literature, genre for writing, etc.).

3. We remain aware that we are an "all ages" group, and we do not introduce "adult" material or topics, either on line or in meetings.

4. We commit to participate positively, so that everyone present may have a safe, productive and pleasant time.

5. We aim to stay on topic during general discussions.

6. During writing exercises, we aim to refrain from chatting.

7. We take responsibility for clearly stating our preferences for locations of gatherings, social events, etc., and we do not expect anyone else to guess what would work for us.

8. We are free to discuss or reflect on our own NaNo experience with family and friends, but we refrain from discussing other members. We do not share other members' personal information, our assessment of other members’ successes, failures, group participation, etc.

9. We have the utmost respect for intellectual copyright and we understand that all excerpts, snippits and novel ideas (except for dares and suggestions to another writer) remain the property of their creators. Therefore we aim never to take direct words from anyone else.

[STICKY]Welcome to the HammerTown Regional Boards!

Greetings fellow WriMo's and welcome!

For those new amongst us (or have forgotten ;) ) I am Welestra, your regional ML and am accompanied once again by the lovely Gale. She should be around and introducing herself soon. I'm usually identified by a lovely highlighter-yellow shirt, which I will try and wear more often this year.

This will be year six for me as a ML, and year seven as a participant. And I'm uber excited already!

So don't be shy, we're a great group and I encourage you to come out and join us both on and offline as much as possible. Introduce yourself, jump into the madness and get ready to pump out those words! We in the Hammer are a competitive bunch, so a regional word war is likely. Should be great fun!

Special Events for Hammertown

So instead of having seperate threads for our annual Kick-Off, Write-Ins, Midway and TGIO Party I thought we'd combine them into one thread. Since it's nice and early, let's start planning early! For those who are new to us or have forgotten:

Kick-Off: This is the get-together we have before the start of NaNo. Depending on people's schedules this usually is held the last weekend of October. It's an opportunity to meet your fellow Wrimos, your MLs and have some fun before the big event.

Write-Ins: held throughout November usually at a coffee shop or other appropriate venue. Bring your laptop (or notepad) and crank out some words. It's also a great time to do a bit of socializing; we try to balance both at our write-ins.

Midway: a new addition to the HammerTown group. Around midmonth we get together to socialize and just hangout - no writing. It's a chance to relax and breathe and not worry about those novels for a few hours. This year we're going to try for a better venue.

TGIO Party: or the Thank God It's Over Party. Can you tell we like to party? We get together to celebrate surviving the month, so whether you finish or not come out and join us. Lots of fun is had. Our venue (pending overwhelming requests for another place) is the Mandarin, and we usually hold this the first week of December.

Now that we've got all that straightened out, it's time to think of Kick-Off! Would we like to stick with last week of October, or do we want to try for a Midnight Kick-Off on the 31st?

This is a game that I've played on a lot of writing web-sites, and it's a great community-builder. I thought we might play it here in our region.

For each arrow (^, <, >, V), the player gives a certain kind of information.

^ You answer the question posed by the last poster.

< You say something about how your day is going.

> You say something about how your writing is going.

V You ask the next poster a question.

I'll start. Hmmm ... let's assume that the last poster asked "Why do you do NaNo each year?"

Meet-ups before the kickoff?

This might be a long shot, but I was wondering if anybody wanted to have a get-together before the official kickoff, which I assume will be sometime in the last week of October.

Some of us from last year continued to meet after the TGIO, doing Script Frenzy together and so on. It hasn't been regular since May or so, but a few of us got together at Williams by the harbour two weeks ago.

Anyone interested?

There are a great many tools out there to help writers in their noveling endeavors. Worldbuilding, character name sites, pictures...these are all things that can be helpful to a writer. So if you have a site you love to use, or a method that helps you crank out those words, share them here.
