Here's how mine begins:
***
Harvey hugged his mother. He was a shaggy boy, but this was genetic; his species had always been shaggy. Now that they lived all over the world, not only in the Arctic Circle and its vicinity, that shag would surely come to fall away, as do so many things when cultures meet and the world becomes small, but for now, in the crisp dry air of late October, Harvey’s body was as white and shaggy as ever.
***
And here are the last three paragraphs:
***
There was a moment of perfect silence.
“Let’s find out,” said Angela. And she stooped and submerged her head beneath the water.
Harvey and Cameron did the same.

Right. "They" say a paragraph can't be one word or one sentence long. But you know what I have to say to "them"? *PBBBBBBBBTTTTT!!!*
It really didn’t have to be that way.
“Okay. Sorry. Just had to ask. You never know about these things.”

(I wrote it on ywp. Switched over 1 month after NANO.)
Begin:
It was Labor Day in September; the air was warm even though it was night. Bella Vemos and her date, Gary Louis, get out of an ugly green car. Mrs. Louis, Gary’s mom, shouted “I’ll pick you up at 9:00! If you’re not here, your grounded for 4 months, Gary!” Gary was tall, like his mother, but she had long brown hair and he had short black hair, like his dad. Gary had brown eyes too. His skin was peachy-white, but he was cold from the chill in the air.
End:
“I thought it was perfect.” Bella told him. A sneeze rang out from the middle of the dance floor. Bella looked and saw Katie’s pale skin go red with a combination of surprise and embarrassment. “Well, almost perfect.”
