Last NaNo, I had asked for fellow NaNoers to recommend some romance novels to me, which is when I realized that what I am attempting to write is not typical romance as it is in the genre. Most romance novels feature chiefly characters in their thirties or forties, which I suppose makes sense, given the usual audience. What I am interested in finding are romance novels with characters primarily in their mid-to-late teens or early twenties. Such novels have been remarkably difficult for me to find.
So, I ask you again, oh wise NaNo peers, to impart upon me some youthful love stories. (Not to say that 40 is not youthful. :P)

You may be having trouble finding romance novels for that age group because novels for that age group are classified under YA (Young Adult), not Romance which is aimed at adults.
Try Forever by Judy Blume. I think that was the first real romance I read that has the age group your looking for.

the only series i remember reading with late teen to early college years was Sweet Valley High and the subsequent series that i cant remember the name of right now. those went through high school and on to college. i dont know if that is still relevant but check it out.

Heh, if ever my novel gets published, I'll give you a copy. It's basically a romance (or not, considering what happens) between a 17 year old girl and a 32 year old man. But it's back in the 14th century, so it's okay. Nothing bad or gross!
Would mine be counted as a YA, you think?

I know exactly what you mean, I keep looking high and low for a book where the protagonist is a 20-something. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. The only book I can think of right now is Two Caravans by Maria Lewycka, which is a really good book, but not through-and-through a romance, I suppose...

My characters have always been 20-somethings. I dont like teenage books very much, they tend to be oddly annoying, perhaps because of the stereotyping? I dont know...

I would look at some Jane Austen books, they're all pretty young, I don't know the exact ages of them all, but I know that Anne Elliot, who is portrayed as something of an old maid/soon to be officially titled an old maid, was mid to late twenties, though theses tend to be a bit, not wordy, but Jane Austen does have a more old fashioned way of speaking.
----------Anne of the Island is also one of the most clean romantic books I've ever read, and I absolutely loved it! It's the third in the Anne of Green Gables series, and takes place when she's in college.
The Inheratance was written by Louisa May Alcott when she was seventeen years old, though it wasn't published then. It's a really good clean romantic book, much better than Little Woman as far as romance goes, I thought. I don't know how old the main girl was, but she was pretty young.
The last one I have to offer is Ella Enchanted, this one is a very easy read, and not as good as Jane Austen or L.M. Montgomery, but it has a good story line, and you might get some inspiration from it, but I'm warning you, it is a very easy read.
I really hope this helps, I struggle with finding good clean romance books too.
