I'm counting down the days before I finally start writing the first fictional words in a book form since 2002. I got Chris' book nearby and I'm incredibly psyched for it. If it weren't for everything that I had to do this month, I would have started today. This month can't go fast enough...

I'm trying to get it done.

Can i add you to my buddy list, we can have word wars in June - It would be more fun for me if I had someone to write with (word wars are always more fun when you're not challenging yourself, LOL)?

Sure thing. Feel free.

Holy crap, it's less than a month away. I got that scared feeling in me going right now. I haven't felt that in a while, feels pretty good...

Hello guys, are you still going for it? I am setting myself a goal of 100k, and it would really be easier with someone to do it with. However, most of them have had their one shot at nano, and won't agree- and it looks really nerve-wrecking without anyone.

So?

Cool, I'm doing it this June too with a goal of 70k. I figured I'd be the only one wnating to do this. So if any of you are still going to do this we could add each other as buddies so we have a small little support group.

Anyone still up for it?

I may do the same thing--I'm a college student. But I get out in the middle of June, so maybe I'll have to make it July.

I'm a Uni student as well, and will be starting at the end of the first week of June. I can still write through the exam period, don't you think?

I'm only writing a 40,000 piece, because it's for a particular series, which an editor actually said she'd look at (Ee gads!) and their limit is 40,000. There's another chapter book I'm wanting to write, around the 10,000w mark as well, so maybe I can do that as well. Hmm...and exams? And in 3 weeks? We'll see. Maybe one book at a time.

I'm looking forward to it, here we go!

I was thinking of writing in June as well. I'd love to get a novel finished before I start grad school in the fall. I'm not sure I'll be able to do Nano *and* classes *and* a full-time job, but I think I'm going to try it! How insane am I?

Hooray! We've got a small group going now. I'm starting to get excited, I think this will be fun. :)

So, does anyone have any ideas yet what you'll be writing about, or are you just going to wait and see what happens?

I'm going to write Brainiac High. I was going to write it in November, but school got in the way... :(

Anyway, it's about a 16-year-old girl (her name is Amanda) who starts out as one of the popular crowd at her school, but is forced to go to a school where most students are nerds--nicknamed Brainiac High, hence the title. Basically, she gets in trouble one time too many, and her parents decide to send her to this other school. Just as she made fun of kids who were different at her old school, she is the one constantly being made fun of at her new school. Over the course of the story, she makes a friend who's an outcast just like her. Near the end of the story, she is offered the chance to become one of the popular crowd at her new school (the details are still sketchy), but she has to give up her new friend. In the end, she chooses her friend over popularity, because she's learned that it is better to be hated for who you are than loved for who you are not.

Basically, it's a reversal of the usual situation in high school.

This actually sounds kind of like a book I read as a kid...don't remember the title...something about...Wayside or Sideways High? Had a bunch of really neat word addition/subtraction problems to solve in it.

Anyways, what I'm doing for June is working on my ongoing novel project, my 07 NaNo. I'm hoping I'll have it done by October, so I can start the next novel in the series for this year's Nano. I haven't finished the chapter yet, but what I do have has been unofficially Peer Edited. I've also started a shorter story/novella which I hope to finish before the Fall Semester of college starts up. If I can get half-way with either story I'll be pleased, so finishing them should make me jubilant enough.

You're thinking of Sideways Arithmetic from Wayside School. It was nothing of the sort; it was just a set of math puzzles based on the book Sideways Stories from Wayside School (which has nothing to do with the theme I'm writing about).

I started this June, and I also signed up with kiwiwriters.org, so that I can update my word count as I go. (Can't seem to find the word count processor on this site.)

I just hit my 10 percent tonight - 5,010 words! And I'm all set to go with Chapter 2...

Aw man, if I'd seen this post...
Actually, I was studying for my exam which was today. (humongous sigh of relief) hang on. No I wasn't...I was chilling out with housemates and watching movies and doing a whole bunch of nothing. I could have been pro-active!
You doing it this weekend? Cos if so...it's ON.... :)

If anyone's interested, my book is 'Life was cool until you got popular' about Kaley and her best friend Jules who's school closed down and their starting year 10 at a new school together. However Jules went away to Europe over the summer on a school trip with the new school and made a heap of new friends and is leaving Kaley behind. Jules is becoming a huge bitch too, so that her new friends think she's cool.
Well Kaley isn't taking it lying down, and there's bitch fights, a basketball to the face, yoghurt in the hair, some major cock blocking - but a chick doing it to a chick - what's that called do you reckon? I know he's fictional - but I totally feel sorry for the guy in the middle of it.
But she's doing it all because she misses her best friend and doesn't understand what happened and is hurt. And she has this warped idea that if she makes life hell for Jules while she's in the popular group, and makes them all think she's a tool, then she'll get her best friend back when they outcast her. But erm...no. It's war.

If anyone's from Australia, I'm writing it for the Girlfriend mag series of books their doing with Allen & Unwin. One of the editors said she'd read it at the end of the year, so fingers crossed!

So yeah - writing war this weekend!!

How's everyone doing now? I passed 9300 words, and I expect to hit 10,000 words tonight. This is huge for me, a story that's been brewing in my head for over 15 years!

I'm at about 8,000 or so... I've had a late start because of finals (I just started writing yesterday), so I don't know that I'll reach 50,000 by July.

If not, hopefully I will by August. After all, this whole thing's just for fun anyway. :)

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m pleased that you have all made it to Buckland Laboratories for this ground-breaking demonstration today!” For such a small man, when Dr. Franklin Ritgen wanted to get his audience’s attention, he could command quite a loud voice...

I started June 3rd, and I'm totally behind on mine. I have like 3056 words or something. Its hard to write because I have so many ideas for my current novel, I can type as fast as they some. So, I guess its time to get back to typing.

Too bad the word counter on here only works in November. It'd be nice to see the levels for everyone here going up. At least on kiwiwriters, I can see where my word count is compared with other participants.

Just hit 18,506 last night...

I'm around the 17,500 word mark, which is oh so exciting. Have been doing some writing every day, except today and tomorrow.

I found out at my exam study group that the exam I thought was wednesday (and am most petrified of) is actually on Monday bright and early at 9:30am.

Yeah so today I've been studying, tomorrow I'll be studying and on Monday I'll shit myself at the exam, then sleep then get cracking writing again! Woo!

I find I keep wrapping scenes up a little too neatly that I do'n't know what should come immediately after. But that's okay cos I move on to scenes that happen later and during my re-reading each day, I manage to fill in the gaps. But I'm zooming through all my big plot points pretty quickly. I guess I'll have to put more exposition in later (I do heaps of dialogue) or keep thinking of more juicy storyline stuff! Somehow, I think that is the best option.

Good luck everyone!

Crossed the halfway point two nights ago, so I'm staying on pace according to the breakdown in the "No Plot? No Problem" book. And just like Chris said in that, Week 2 is a real pain in the a**, but Week 3's starting to feel like the storms are passing...

Almost done now, just about at the 45,000 word mark. Still on schedule, according to the NPNP book, and it looks like it might go a little over 50k...

Hey, I tried to do that! I roped my friend into starting it with me. She didn't do it. But I got to 9,332 words! :D

Man, we should have teamed up or something. I would have had a better chance at succeeding if I had someone with me :(

Good luck! Or, as it's July now, Congratulations! :D

Well the June bug is over, and I'm still writing, but I'm happy with my progress. sure makes me realise that to do the real deal Nano is going to be super stressful!

My goal was a 40,000 word book cos that's what the series I'm writing for is, and I've just passed that mark, but still have a couple thousand words of story to go.

It's taken me 5 weeks so far and as soon as I finish this one I'm getting started on my next. So by NaNo month of Novemeber, I'll (fingers crossed) be up to my third! And at the point of finishing edits on this one I'm writing now.

This is my first novel that I'm actually going to finish, and I have to say, I'm completely proud of myself. I made it all the way through without going: "ooh, this new idea is even BETTER - I'll start writing that one instead!" which is a never ending cycle with me.

How'd others go. Anyone win against themselves?

I'm in the editing process now with my book. I finished my last words on June 30th at 11:35pm EST, so the draft was all done by the deadline. Good times...
