My next nano is going to be set in Tudor England and I'm trying to find out more about what it would be like for a young girl, not from a rich family, maybe daughter of a craftsman/artisan, growing up e.g what kind of schooling if any, would she be sent out to work, what age would she get married. If anyone has good ideas about books/other sources of information I would be most grateful.

I would say that you might just want to start out with some fiction. Try Philippa Gregory books, all historical fiction and most/all involving the influential figures of history in that period. I figure that you can handle it. It's got some serious romancing in it, but that's kinda how that period was. That might help you a little with the era.

I would recommend that you pick up some books that explain about those times. There is also a series called The Tudors on TV, I would recommend that as well if you have directTV or Cox.

All I can say is that women that aren't in higher classes do not have any education. Nor do the men of those lower classes.

I agree with Fallin, Philippa Gregory books are the way to go.. Particularly you should try one called The Queen's Fool. It's fairly new and it's about a servant girl who gets sent to live with first Edward, then Mary and then Elizabeth as a fool through their time reigning and what she sees and hears and does. It was a good read, accurate, and should help since this girl's father is a bookseller :)
