I am adventuring into some new MG and YA authors. I've read the oldies but goodies (Little House series, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Babysitter's Club, etc), but am looking for some new authors to peruse. Thoughts and suggestions?

HI!
(BTW: Love you're username!)
I'm really into Martha Finley, she's a writer from the 1800's - but very interesting books!
Here's a list:
~Martha Finley
~Max Lucado*
~Barbara Parks (I used to be into her series, "Junie B. Jones")
~Megan McDonald
~Nancy Yi Fan (Sword Bird/Sword Quest - new author - only like...14 yrs old)
These are just to name a few!
Have a nice day,

Okay well, I read (and write) at the higher end of YA (15 and up). Some of my favourite YA authors are...
Garth Nix (The Old Kingdom Series, Shade's Children)
Holly Black (The Modern Faery Tale series)
Cassandra Clare (The Mortal Instruments series)
Kris Reiz (Unleashed, Tripping To Somewhere)
Chris Wooding (The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray, Poison)
Just a note though, most of these books contain violence, sex and some bad language. If you don't like that sort of thing steer clear. :)
From the list of books you mentioned, I assume you read/write in the lower end of YA (or as I prefer to call it, Teenage Fiction, I'll never understand why book sellers class 12 year olds as Young Adults o.O''' but that's a whole other rant.)
I think you might enjoy LJ Smith's Nightworld Series, as well as her Vampire Diaries series. Also Tamora Pierce's Immortals Series and Song of the Lioness Quartet.

Hi, CN!
I'm not really sure what you're planning to write, but from what you list as oldies, I assume that that is your area. If that's the case, I would look at -
Patricia MacLachlan - Journey; Sarah, Plain and Tall, etc
Cynthia Voigt - Homecoming; Dicey's Song; A Solitary Blue; The Calendar Papers, etc
Gary Paulsen - Hatchet; The Haymeadow, etc
Avi - S.O.R. Losers; Romeo and Juliet, Together (And Alive!) At Last, etc
Lowis Lowry - Anastasia Krupnik series; and Attaboy Sam!, etc
This is a mix of reading levels and interests, but similar themes. I hope this helps. All of these authors have been super successful. If you need more, or don't like this list, let me know, and I'll come up with something different. These aren't tekkie books. If that's what you're after, I can help you with that too. I was just going by what you gave as examples.
Good Luck!

Fallyn, you are right. I do write at the younger end of YA (I, too, don't know why 12 year olds are YA - but whatever, eh?). Great list.
Joyful, I'll read anything YA/MG at this point regardless of theme or content (I should have said that). Your list, also, is awesome.
Off to the library I go. Hi ho.
Thanks all.
