Okay... I'm aware that everyone seems to be writing "Twilight-esque" stories nowadays.. but don't worry! No vampires are lurking behind my text!

... Basically, the idea that I've begun formulating in my head is the idea of the perfect boyfriend.

That's where Edward from Twilight sort of lends a bit of inspiration...

... but then, I started to think about how having the perfect boyfriend would make me feel...

And I decided that it would make me feel downright bitter. Since my natural writing style seems to take on a sarcastic feel with heavily cynical overtones and a snarky attitude (aside from the novel I started for last NaNoWriMo) I figured I'd embrace it and write a funny chick lit piece... but with a sort of underlying message.

... So, if one were to have the "perfect" boyfriend... Would anyone feel like they would gain a MASSIVE inferiority complex? I mean, it just wouldn't be fair to have one person in the relationship be good at EVERYTHING, would it? I wanted to write about a girl's journey to finding out that she can still feel good about herself even if her significant other does trump her at everything (here's the worst part... She can't even be mad at him because of how nice he is about it!) ... but also that "perfect" people aren't always as perfect as they seem...

I suppose what I'm asking for here are ideas... How do you make a perfect character not seem so... flat? So fake? And what would be some interesting situations that would commonly be found in a high school setting that could potentially help me to develop the foil between my two main characters?

Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated!

I think I would read that. It's new, or at least I haven't read another version of it. It sounds really cool. I think an absolutly perfect character is supposed to be flat and sort of boring. Edward Cullen is kinda flat and boring (I feel the fangirl glare), but if you can make him flat and boring to the extreme, I think it gets to be funny.

Thanks a lot!

Haha... That fangirl glare... I've had that focused on me several times... Scary people, Twilighters...

Yeah, I suppose I do see your point there... I guess I just didn't want him to wind up SO flat that I wound up hating him, too! ... but my MC is rather bitter and cynical... So I have a feeling there will be where a good chunk of my humor comes from... I kind of want him to end up lacking some skill that seems so insignificant, but it also just so happens to be the one thing that my MC is actually very good at...

... Maybe cooking?
