There is a Life During NanNo section, but how about a detailed section for Life Leading to NanNo?
One board could be Character Development, where people help others who have a vague idea for one or more of their characters, but needs a little boost on pushing through their little writer's block to come up with a character trait or background of the character.

Well, we have the December and Beyond forums. :) For character development, though, you can certain use the Plot Doctoring forum for just that purpose.
The main problem with creating a "Life Leading to NaNo" section is that it would be lost when we do the forum wipe in October... thus removing all of the planning from active use, since it usually takes a few weeks to get the archives up and running.

You can join us in Reaching 50,000! NaNoWriMo 2008: Planning? where we're talking about outlining and characters so anything to do with planning for next NaNa I'm sure is more than welcome. In fact, if we can keep it going and up towards the top maybe more will pop in to add to it and help out.
