TGIO party -- we need to start planning it

We had the Kick Off at Cici's Pizza that went over very well, I think everyone had a good time.

We have had some ideas for things, one is going to another Buffet somewhere, going to Buffalo Wild Wings and to do Roberto's Mexican somewhere.

Any other ideas are good.

I know lots of people are hoping for Friday the 4th of Dec... sounds good to me, once again, any problems with this, let us know.

Well pros and cons of above listed.

Pros of a Buffett or Roberto's -- everyone has seprate checks,
BWW - fun - yummy wings

Cons of BWW - if we do it on a Friday anyone under 18 or 21 (not sure of each locations policy) has to be out by a certian time and during football season having it on a Sat or Sun is a BAD idea, and no sep checks
Buffet or Roberto's some people don't like those places, Roberto's they can be kind of small

So any ideas please pitch them and help us plan the Thank Goodness It's OVER party... so we can start planning next year at this party!!!!

The Challenges for Nano

You might be asking yourself -- Challenges??? what challenges? These are funny things different writers put out to the gropu trying to help you pad your word count by adding weird, funny, crazy or just odd things into your novel. If you are able to work these into your novels, which is very possible, it can add many extra words to your plot to get you closer to your goal...
50K in one month.

Here is the start of the list that we came up with during Saturday's hang out and plan event at reJAVAnate... Please feel free to add more....

1. Having your characters in a Shopping Cart Race.

2. A character who thinks they are Jamaican (they are NOT) and they speak with a horrible fake Jamaican accent and everything they say with ".... mon" (as if Man)

3. Since so many of us laughed at Edward and his sparkling "personality" in the Twilight books, you need to add something that does NOT sparkle in the real world and make it sparkle in your book, for example: Wow that cheese really does sparkle in the sun. It can not be a diamond or gemstone or something that would normally sparkle.

4. You must have some sort of ad on Craigslist and add it to your novel, it could be as simple as a character shopping for a new sofa on Craigslist to how one of your characters finds "true love" through the posts, or anything other thing that would work with in your story involving Craigslist.

5. Have a character who speaks in "teenager speak" statements like "What it do?" instead of proper English "What is use of that object?" Other statements are "Me likey" "Can I ax you a question?" "My bad" and many others

Please add more!!!!

time for update on 11/12 close to half way done

Just to let you know, that after this weekend we will be half done with the month and we all can do it. Keep writing, no matter how far ahead you are (TEACH you are making all us look bad) or how far behind you, just keep writing, you might have an 5k to 10k day this weekend at the write-athon and then you will be back where you want to be or worse hit your 50k already.... shaking her head in suprise we so many people at all.... the last couple years we only got 10 to 15 people, at the most, at any event this year we are over 25 people at an event.... let's keep going and look at our totals as of right now:

7.14% of Wrimos in this region have donated 720.00 so far (thank you!)
Wrimos in this region have written 1,951,531 words (11,215 per Wrimo with wordcount)

Just remember this weekend at the write-athon, be nice to the staff, order drinks and food since we are taking up their spots and be nice to any nanoier or non-nanoier, and that It's A Grind is not the biggest place ever, so we might be sharing tables, squeezing together on the long bench they have where the tables are, but we can do it, we can make it work.... Plus people will be coming and going all the time. But please buy something, they are being really nice to us....

Story Help needed!

Help my MC has to save 16 people stuck on the roof of a house in a flooded river. How would he do it? he is in a jeep and is with 2 other people can get 3-5 other people if needed. No boat. Water is still rising.

Thinking of a surfboard type thing. Or running a rope across the river maybe a net of some kind?

Its the Aliens Fault....Save me!

As everyone knows after being hit by a car I have been on massive pain meds. I sleep, try to write and then sleep some more. However, thanks to my better half I have now become addicted to playing this mindless online video games where you kill aliens.

Due to the medications my mind is in a fog and it takes no brain activity to play this game. My problem is I need to WRITE not kill aliens....Helpppppppppppppppppppppppppp...Save me....Its Michael's fault,,I blame him....Now I am off to kill more aliens. errr I mean write (laughs)

Have you ever wondered why foreigners have trouble with the English Language?

Let's face it
English is a stupid language.
There is no egg in the eggplant
No ham in the hamburger
And neither pine nor apple in the pineapple.
English muffins were not invented in England
French fries were not invented in France.

We sometimes take English for granted
But if we examine its paradoxes we find that
Quicksand takes you down slowly
Boxing rings are square
And a guinea pig is neither from Guinea

If writers write, how come fingers don't fing.
If the plural of tooth is teeth
Shouldn't the plural of phone booth be phone beeth
If the teacher taught,
Why didn't the preacher praught.

If a vegetarian eats vegetables
What the heck does a humanitarian eat!?
Why do people recite at a play
Yet play at a recital?
Park on driveways and
Drive on parkways

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy
Of a language where a house can burn up as
It burns down
And in which you fill in a form
By filling it out
And a bell is only heard once it goes!

English was invented by people, not computers
And it reflects the creativity of the human race
(Which of course isn't a race at all)

Week Three Monday Pep Talk

Welcome to week three. Many people got a boost in word count thanks to the write a thon. Today’ we should be at 26,672. Wheather you are not quite to that number or far past it. Keep Going! The finish line is in sight. We made it over the hump of week two and are now on the downhill end of the race to 50,000 words.

When you feel like giving up remember you’re not alone. Millions of writers around the world are struggling like you to reach 50,000 words. If you believe the writing is terrible, (my biggest problem), keep going, you can let your inner editor loose on it in December. If you want to give up, keep going anyway. You’ve come this far and can make it all the way to the end. I promise.

Just repeat after me “I think I can. I think I can.” Yes, I am quoting a children’s story but it works. Open the novel you have going and when staring at the blank page convinced you can go no further just say I think I can. Next type whatever comes into your mind. A writer once told me some of her greatest stories came from random typing of thoughts.

I am the quote queen but I want to share one more before closing the Monday Pep Talk.

“When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds: Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great, and wonderful world. Yeah so right now I'm at Barns and Nobel. I would have tried to make it to the one on...(was it Maryland pkwy?) but my dad seemed tired and I just wanted to get away from homework so I came to the one on Rainbow instead. If anyone wants to join me you're more than welcome. If not I'll probably make it home before too long (I've got more than enough Trig Homework to do tonight!)
This week my teachers are buckling down on homework... So although I'm less than 5,000 words away from the big 50 I most likely won't make it there until the weekend. Aw phooy.
Hopefully in the meantime others will raise their victory flags!

Also if you are behind in word count, just keep writing,

If you story seems like it is going nowhere, just keep writing,

If you feel like stopping, just keep writing!!!

Trust me the fun will come back and we can all accomplish the great goal. No matter if you have only written 1500 words on 150k in words, you have written more this month than most people do their whole adult lives. Look at this way, you have written more words than most adults read from books after they leave college.

I had hoped to make it to the write a thon more than just on Friday night. However last night one crazy driver decided otherwise when he hit me. Thankfully some randon stranger saw it coming and tackled me so I was just clipped. The nice guy however has a broken hip because of his efforts he took the brunt of the car's impact.

I just got home from the ER and have a strained back and neck. Thanks to massive pain meds there is no way I can drive to get there or I would be writing with everyone else.

Again I am very sorry I have missed most of the event.

the Write-athon

This weekend the Write-athon will be going on, I do want to warn people that It's A Grind is not the biggest place, and it is not as big as Elysium was last year, but it does outside tables so people can sit outside depending on the weather. I will bring an extra power strip for when I am there, I will be there some after work on Friday (unless work gets crazy) and I plan on being there most of Sat and Sunday.

When I talked to them, they did warn me that sometimes on the weekends in the evening/night they are busy with other customers, so please buy something since we are taking up there tables, etc.

It is on Desert Inn near Durango.

Let me know if you need any other info...

And once again, they do have WiFi if you buy something you get 4 hours worth of time, but NO computers there, sorry.

Things that make you go HUMMMM at a write a thon

You should be here. Really I mean be here..

A man all in black with a giant glowy stick taller than he was. He entered, walks past a group of writers, enters the restroom and we all watch as the glow of the stick thingy is seen from under the door, cause the light is off in there.

Keep in mind he is holding giant glowing stick behind his back as if no one would see it...

Then he walks back out and past us yet again and out the door where the giant glowy stick thing becomes a baton.

Should we go congratulate him now? After all he just made his way into at least five novels. He is going to be famous and has no ideas.

The Book Boutique is a nice little book store with a lot of used books for good prices.
