Playing catch-up

Okay playing the catch-up game is not easy. lol So I thought I'd see if anyone else was doing it and if so how goes the quest. I think I did about 10,000 words in two days and tried not to groan when I looked at the progress chart and saw after so many words how far I still had to go. Oh well. I'm going to keep on keeping on. Hope all is well for those on target and off alike. :)
Southeast Kansas Writers

Hey, anybody else out there from the Southeast corner of the state? Pittsburg, Girard, Frontenac, Galena, Columbus, and so forth? How about some PSU students? Let's speak up and give each other some support!

I've lived in Pittsburg the last six years (lived in Southwest Missouri prior to that) and this is my second year in Nano. I tried a mystery last year, but am planning a horror novel this year.

There are a couple of us from Pittsburg planning a writing event in November, so stay tuned to this thread for more information.
Someone Yell At Me

I need to have someone yell at me to not worry about writing...I know all of you are thinking what...why would I do that. Well...for the reason is that I have the lovely swine flu. But I am one of those lovely people who are at risk to end up in the hospital and perhaps die from it. Yippee right. It seems like I am going up and then falling down hard. I am starting to get closer to getting pneumonia. So I need someone to yell at me..please...
Anyone From Derby Out There?

Just wondering how many people in my hometown are participating this year. I'm currently living in Emporia, but I grew up in Derby and it'll always be home to me! :) This year I'm writing a Christmas story that hasn't really developed a plot yet, but that'll come in later!

So, if you're in Derby or grew up there, come say hi!

What do You Do When Your Not Writing?

We all have to take breaks from writing. I do it often. I either go to class or just sit next to my husband. Other then today...oh dear...I typed something else. It's all because I was listening to a song called, "What time is it?" It's from High School Musical 2 soundtrack. When I came up with this lovely song...it's to the tune of What time is it.

What time is it?
Nano time
It’s our writing
What time is it?
Writing time
That’s right, say it loud

What time is it?
The time of our lives
Anticipation
What time is it?
Nano time
It’s midnight, scream and shout!

Finally November’s here
Good to be writing out
I’m off the clock
The pressures on
Now my MC what it’s all about

Ready for some darkness
For my hands to take a chance
I’m here to write
Not movin’ away
Ready for a character romance

Everybody ready, going crazy, yeah we’re out
Come on and let me hear you say it now, right now.

What time is it?
Nano time
It’s our writing
What time is it?
Writing Time
That’s right, say it loud

What time is it?
The time of our lives
Anticipation
What time is it?
Nano time
It’s midnight, scream and shout!

Goodbye to dinners
No clean house
I’m free to stay up till I drop
It’s an writing experience

And the writing never has to stop

We’ve got a plot to do
We’ll see you soon

And we’re really gonna miss you all

Goodbye to you and you

And you and you

Bye bye until December

Bye Bye

Everybody ready going crazy yeah we’re out
Come on and let me hear you say now right now

What time is it?
Nano time
It’s our writing
What time is it?
Writing Time
That’s right, say it loud

What time is it?
The time of our lives
Anticipation
What time is it?
Nano time
It’s midnight, scream and shout!

Lots more wakin’ up at 5 am
‘Cause now is our time to write…

Enough already, we need to write

Out of control

All right
Everybody
Yeah
Come on

Nano pride lets show it
We’re novelist and we know it
Wrimos
Are the best
Black white and blue

When it’s time to win we do it
We’re number one we proved it
Let’s live it up
Write Down
That’s what the Nanowrimo’s all about

What time is it?

Nanowrimo is finally here

Let’s celebrate

Wanna hear you loud and clear now

Typing is On

We can sleep as little as we want to

It’s our time

Now we can do whatever we write

What time is it?
It’s Nano Time
We’re lovin’ it
Come on and type again now
What time is it
It’s Writing time
Let’s go and have
The time of our lives

----------
Meet and Greet Section

It sems like its that time of the year again. It's so nice to see old faces well old usernames. Come say hello in this topic and tell everyone a little about you.

We want to know about your username, where are you in Kansas, how long you have been on nanowrimo, and what interest you in writing. Also we want to know a little about what you want to write this nanowrimo even if it's a genre.

I personally can't wait to meet you all.

I might as well post a bit about myself. My name is Kendra and I live in Emporia, Kansas full time now that I just married this last July. I am twenty-two years old and I have been writing since I was very little. I still have little stories that I made when i was just learning to write. I have been doing Nanowrimo for five years, which means that i started in Olathe, Kansas at high school. When I came down to my college here in Emporia I found out that not many people heard about Nanowrimo and started to spread the word. I am in my third year of being an ML and I am often found all over the forums doing what ever I can to help. I am now minoring in creative writing and so spreading the word through my classes. I can't wait to meet all of you and I hope everyone will have fun.
A little on my writing. I usually work in the romance and now I am touching in science fiction. I am known for having huge goals on the site but this year I am thinking of just staying in 50K because I am also having to write a whole novel for a class that I started in August. So I'll be pretty busy.

----------

As promised, I'd like to serve as a facilitator for communication among Nanowrimo participants in the area. These forums are great, and the site as a whole is more stable than before, so visit early and often.

My personal e-mail address is banazir@gmail.com.

For those of you who use Internet Relay Chat (IRC): the municipal chat room for Manhattan, Kansas is #nano on orome.homelinux.net, port 53067. Just connect your IRC client and "/join #nano". For a list of IRC clients, see http://bit.ly/2euTo1 (some good ones are xchat for most every client, mIRC for Windows, irssi for Linux, and ircle for Mac).

If you're on Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn, feel free to add me, and if you are on LiveJournal, I'm not dead, just pining for the fjords!

As for MySpace, Xanga, Orkut, Blogger, Friendster, Vox, and Dreamwidth: I have those, but if I'm awfully quiet there, it's because I don't check those much. Feel free to drop me a line there too, if you like, though.

Video/photoblogs: YouTube (main: banazir), Flickr (main: banazir)

Feel free to post any contact info you like here, including where we can write you for more screen names.

Anyone from Leavenworth, KS??

I recently relocated from the Lawrence, KS Nanowrimo group... And for some reason expected to find more writers or at least a forum for my hometown of KS. Sadly there is none, so I'm curious if anyone from Leavenworth is participating this year or willing to meet some time and write together... Lawrence kinda spoiled me, got that stuck in my head :)

Make sure you go back in your "My Nanowrimo" and then go to user settings and change your timezone. The site doesn't change it for you when the time changes.
Emails From the MLs

I had a couple of people say that they would like if I post the emails I send out on the site so here is where you can find the lastest email. I'll keep the newest at the top of the page. Thanks.

One More Day: Email
Hey Wrimos,
Hey guys as you know Nanowrimo is only day away. I thought I drop you guys a line before we barely have time to check out emails. Soon you will get a pep talk this week and then slowly things are going to be snapping in place. Also soon a lot of the Kickoffs will be taking place around the state. That doesn’t mean that you though have to sit back and relax. There is a place that will start at eight p.m on the thirty first and will last how ever long anyone is on it. That is the online chat room that I have set up for Kansas fans to meet each other and discuss with each other on their projects. Also a place to set up word wars with each other. Just go to http://chatnano.net/tempchats/kansas.html . Now for those of you who are new to Nanowrimo. The site gets super slow and often crashes for the first week. Because millions of writers are trying to put their word count on and sometimes the site can’t handle it all. Nanowrimo will let you know what’s going on when you vi
sit their twitter account. Also Elsewhere has their own twitter page which is http://twitter.com/KansasElsewhere . I’ll keep updates on it on what’s going on with the site for everyone.
Also you guys can email me if you have any questions at kk9987@gmail.com. I am always checking the email. But often times I will have the chat up and about so come and say hi.

Write ins:
October 31st: 2:00pm (Topeka) Kickoff Topeka Public Library, 1515 SW 10th Ave-Millennium Café.
October 31st: 8pm (Online) http://chatnano.net/tempchats/kansas.html runs till 2am or long on the 1st.
October 31st: 11:00pm (Lawerence) 17 E 7th St Lawerence, KS 66044-2703
November 1st: 2-5pm (Lawerence) Mirth Café, 745 New Hampshire, Lawerence
November 1st: 6:00-10pm (Kansas City) The Writers Place, 3607 Pennsylvania Ave, Kansas City, MO

                                            Just one more day,
Write Ins

Hey guys,
As you see the forums are getting busy as is our own region. I just thought I make one special thread for the Writeins for everyone to post where such writeins are. Also it will help me the ML be able to keep track of the different Writeins that everyone is creating. So come on in here and post a writein. And I will post it on the calender for everyone and also mention it in my emails.

Also: I am going to be doing an online writein on Mondays, Wed. and Fridays from 8-10pm or till everyone slowly ventures out. It will be on a site that another lovely ML is letting other regions use. Kansas has their very own chat room. You guys are more the willing to get on there any time to talk but I will host word wars and we can just enjoy getting to know each other even if we don't live close. Also Emporia will have their writeins on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. But you guys are more the welcome to come on during their time too which is 8-10pm So post all the writeins for everyone to see.
KCK? Johnson Co.? Wyandotte Co.? KC metro area?

Hey, fellow Kansans!

I’m poetT, one of the MLs for the Kansas City area–and that includes you.

We have a lot lined up for NaNoWriMo 2009 in our area:
-Kick-Off Meetings, including October 10 in Johnson County, at the Central Resource Library!
-November write-ins (including some at Central Resource Library)
-forum camaraderie
-Thank Goodness It's Over Party
-Write-ins (twice-monthly) through the rest of the year

If you want to be part of it all, visit the Missouri::Kansas City Metro forum:
http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/164

Even if you live on the Kansas side (I’m in Overland Park, myself), you are part of our KanMoWriCollective. (You can keep an affiliation here in Kansas, too, so you can easily get to both forums–that’s what I do.) If you are in the metro, go ahead and make Missouri::Kansas City your home. That helps us know better how to egg you on to 50K.

Come on over to our metro-wide community. We would love to add you to the mix.

Hope to see you on both sides of the state line!

Anyone at Benedictine College doing NaNo this year? My name's Maddie and I'm a freshman. I think it'd be a lot of fun if we got together for some write ins or a kick off party or something!
For Larryvillians

Hey all,

I guess on sunday the journal-world interviewed Ted Boone, our local fearless leader (great interview). It was mentioned that there was a contest sponsored by the LJW but I don't get the paper (read it on-line) but they don't reference it online. Anyone know the specs on that contest?

Thanks!
Just because you are an "Elsewhere" doesn't mean you aren't important

Welcome to Nanowrimo!
I'm Lissa, one of the Kansas :: Elsewhere Municipal Liaisons. It's kind of overwhelming to be an ML for an entire state, especially one as spread out as Kansas. I'm also one of the Topeka MLs and will be posting frequently in that forum as well.

The Kansas :: Elsewhere regional forums can help you meet other writers in your area, or connect with other Kansans who don't have many writers nearby in their city or town. Some ideas for using the Elsewhere forums:

1. Start a new topic with your town in the title if you want to find other writers in your area.
2. Consider organizing a write-in or meet up in your area in a coffee shop or library.
3. Organize online/virtual write ins, word wars and other encouraging activities with other Kansas writers.
4. Get encouragement from your Kansas MLs, ask questions and share your own advice and experiences!
5. The forums can only give you back what you put into them -- if you want to interact here, great! Enjoy the space and make the most of it! Networking with other writers before November 1 helps build your support system before writing begins.
6. Have fun!!!!!!!!
Perhaps my entire novel can be written during hours and minutes that my toddler is sleeping. Perhaps not.
