Virtual Write-ins

In addition to regular write-ins, I was thinking that we could have a couple of virtual ones to do some word wars. The easiest way would probably be through Windows Messenger (and its variants) or a private chatroom.

Week Two Write-Ins

Week Two starts on Wednesday and great news, I have time to do a write-in on Thursday AND Sunday!

Sunday will be at Perkins again, at around 8 pm. I will post an event shortly.

Now who is interested in coming on Thursday and do you want to do it somewhere other than Perkins and most importantly, what time is good for everyone?

Creating Your Own Language

I was meaning to ask about this this past Sunday but I woosed out and couldn't hear several people so I'll ask here and if I remember to might bring it up when we meet up.

I was wondering if any of you make up words, or have your own languages in your stories something like Tolkien did with the Elven language? I've long since had a few words I've made up since I first started writing this world back when I was 14-16 and getting into my vampire phase as another >insert sarcasim here< fun way to escape teen age angst. I have and usually I say it's the "vampire language" even though there is litterally no way to translate the words back to English and I find myself thinking of marketing and how people responded to Elven, not to say I'll have THAT sort of luck with my writing but... *shrugs* ya never know.

So the question, do you make up your own words, your own languages or am I the only goof that has done so??

Hello Everyone,

it's that time of year again! Aren't you excited?!

This is your taditional thread of introduction. You can tell us as much or as little as you like :D

My name is Liv, and I am your regional ML. This is my 5th NaNoWriMo and my 2nd year as a Municipal Liason. I like candle light dinners and long walks on the bea- oh... hi! Disregard that...
The first time I did NaNo in 2003, I was completely overwhelmed. My best friend pretty much conned me into doing it, I had no idea about the plot or anything else when I first started. While I made only 10,000 words, I felt hugely accomplished, because I had not written anything of that proportion in a long time. I continued my NaNo journey and mastered it last year, take THAT 50,000 words bwuahahaha! NaNo has become a very comforting time of year. November used to be that first long stretch of grey when you aren't quite adjusted to the coming of winter yet.

So, why do you do NaNoWriMo?

Kickoff Party

Hey Everyone!

It's time to think about our kickoff party! Last year, we had an awesome time at Perkins in St. Catharines, but let's talk about our options and dates.
I was thinking perhaps November 3rd, as I have to deal with inventory at my work on the first.

Here are a few suggestions for the place:

*Perkins (Lake street, St. Catharines)
*Sweets Cafe (Ontario street, St. Catharines)
*Boston Pizza (Dorchester/Morrison Niagara Falls)
*Fine Grind (downtown St Catharines)
*any other place you can think of

Last Day Changes

I just found out (while talking to myself - again - in Lj) that I'm writing a mystery, much to my surprise though I was sort of thinking I was headed there anyways. I wonder if the 5 Dresden File Books I've read and the Lukyanenko books are enough?! *crosses toes* I also have no clue who the MC will be, certainly not the female vampire that is looking to be a private CSI however, I'm think the MC might be the medical student that is fluttering around the back of my mind... and I just made the connection that this werewolf character of mine (Jason) would be perfect especially since I think his wedding at the end will be the big boom... though he has always been the veternarian not a human doctor.

*ARG*

I can only assume, hope that I'm not the only one up at four thirty Monday morning doing brain storming and prep work while the spouse is sleeping on the sofa and the kitten is sleeping on your leg (and thus making it fall asleep). Are you guys doing last minuet changes, finding yourself doing similiar things with the prep work or are you actually ready and not trying to block out the panic?

Familiar Grounds

I have had this city called Winter Field in my world since I was fourteen (you know back in the day when we had to walk up hill in the snow bare foot ) and a lot of it is parts of Dunnville and a splattering of Niagara Falls with the crazy streets of St. Kitts -- even though it's like in the States in basically a valley. *lol*

Question is, how much - if any - of the sites, sounds, people, buildings do you take into your stories, your world? Is your neighbour the crazy landlord of your MC, is the creepy man at the corner store in your story in some form? Do you keep it very close to real life or do you cut and past neighbourhoods and streets?

How much of your familiar grounds are in your words??

Write-ins (vote inside)

Alright, it is time to decide when and where to hold our weekly write-ins! Since the kickoff party will be on the Saturday, it will double up as a write-in as well. After that, when is convenient for people?

I am unable to do Saturdays after the 3rd, but I am good for almost any other day. So, post below what weekday/s are best for you and specify if you prefer day, evening or night time.

Also, I am planning to have some activities planned out this year. Last year, I was trying to get a feel for how things work out and I have a bunch of ideas for activities we can do to up our word count. In addition to the above, let me know which you prefer:

*word wars without prompts (writing for a specific period of time, as fast as possible)
* word wars with prompts (writing for a specific period of time, as fast as possible about a random topic)
*draw of the hat prompts (pull a mood, sentence etc out of a hat and write about that)
*chain stories (each person writes two or three sentences in a story before passing it on to the next person)
*character description (get to know your characters in three paragraphs)
*paint a picture in words (from a random image, write a story)
