Elsewhere, Arizona! It's NaNo Time, 2008!

Hi there!

It's that time again! Time to stash your sanity away somewhere deep and dark, and get ready for November - the best month of every <strike>lunatic</strike> writer's year!

I'm Nim, the ML (municipal liaison) for the region known as Elsewhere, Arizona. If you live in the state of Arizona, but don't live in Tucson, Phoenix, Flagstaff, Prescott, or Patagonia, consider yourself a part of Elsewhere, Arizona. I'm very excited to get to know all of you, and to reacquaint with those of you I've already had the pleasure of meeting. (And maybe even <strike>luring</strike> inspiring someone to grab the NaNo bull by the horns and co-ML the region with me!)

Second only to November, is the wonderful, exciting, inspiring, magical month of October! As we begin this magnificent month of ideas, I just wanted you to know that I am here for you. Unless you live in or near Sierra Vista, we may never meet in person, but I will still do my best to help you with anything I can during the months of October and November. (Don't expect replies on December 1st. I'll be asleep!) When I get some time, I plan to create a chat room for online write-ins and general talk-so-I-don't-have-to-write sorts of activities. I've also established a Google Calendar to help keep track of things. (I'll see about getting that link to you asap.)

If you happen to live in Cochise County (or can get here with relative ease), we'll be having in-person write-ins as well. Since most of you do not live near to me, you are encouraged to put together local write-ins with others in your respective towns. If there's anything I can do to help you put that together, just holler.

As I said previously, my name is Nim. This is my fourth year as a writer in NaNoWriMo. I have won all three times that I've entered, and I think it's fair to call me a NaNo junkie. It is my third year as Elsewhere's ML. I have absolutely NO idea what I'm going to write about this year. If you know me, you know that's typical. I often go the entire month of October with zero clue as to what I'm dedicating my November life to. I do think I'm going to keep it light-hearted this time. Maybe I'll re-write a fairy tale, or something equally fluffy. Whatever I do, I'm gonna have fun. I hope you do too!

So I guess that's it for the intro! How about introducing yourselves!
Chat!

Come check out the Elsewhere Arizona Chat Room.

I'm a bit behind the power curve at the moment (as evidenced by my sorry word count), but when I'm able to squeeze in a little extra time, I'll set up an online Write In.

Meanwhile, you are welcome to go and hang out in the chat room anytime you like. Just follow that link, sign in with the name you use here, and "Join Chat". If you want to get others to join you, post a note in this thread letting folks know you are there. You can talk about your stories, or conduct a mini Write In. (Online Write Ins consist of writing for a pre-determined amount of time, then comparing word counts. Winner gets to gloat until someone else takes the title.)

Have fun! Hope to see you there sometime!
How is everyone doing? Keeping up at 1667/day? Following your outline? Winging it?

I was just wondering how everyone from Elsewhere was doing on this years' NaNo. Are you fulfilling your own promise to yourself, or have you worked your way into some dark corner of a plot where only an alien landing would rescue you? Or has your well-thought out outline saved you from wandering off into the desert, alone.

My outline was somewhere between 6-7K, with every major scene (so I thought) plotted. So, with a few modifications I'm still on track and at 21.7K as of this morning, Friday, Nov. 7.

Where are you?
Sierra Vista Area!

Hi All!

Just thought I'd create a thread for those of us residing in the Sierra Vista, Ft. Huachuca, Hereford, Benson, Palominas, Bisbee area. (Of course, all other nearby surrounding areas are welcome as well. I just can't think of them all!)

As of now, I'm tentatively planning for Tuesday Write-Ins at the Sierra Vista Library. I still need to nail down the times, but I'm thinking afternoon/evening might work best for most. As for me, it's the one day I have (mostly) free all day. The library is open until 9PM on Tuesdays, though the cafe closes at 8PM. Input would be appreciated!

Redonna, I saw your note in the other thread. Thank you for offering to contact the library. As it is, the rooms are first-come-first-serve and they will not hold them for anyone. However, it is my experience that there are usually meeting rooms open. Worst-case scenario: We'll have to sit out in the cafe area and drink yummy lattes. (oh darn.)

Another thing to think about: A Kick-Off Party (and later, a Thank God It's Over Party)!

I have a young son, and my husband is a NaNo'er too. So I was thinking maybe we could have a KOP at Peter Piper Pizza. They have wi-fi, and a place for kids to run around (in case there are any other parents in the group). As it is, Hubby won't be able to attend the regular write-ins unless we can find a sitter. I'm thinking a TGIO party there too. Saturday night might be a bit hectic in Peter Piper Land, though. What do you think? Are you up for the craziness, or should we shoot for a week-day evening?

As always, this is all open for discussion.

So! SV and Surrounding... what do you want to do?

----------
Safford/Thatcher/Pima writing group?

Hello everyone... since I moved here in August I've been trying to find out if there is a writing group in the area. So far I can't seem to find that there is one. Does anybody know of one? OR alternately, would anyone be interested in joining one if I tried to start one? I know there are a decent amount of us who attend EAC and are doing NaNo so I thought maybe some of those people would be interested.

I'm thinking some sort of monthly or bimonthly meeting where people could do timed writings together, or share work and give each other feedback. This wouldn't really be NaNoWriMo related too, but just any type of creative writing throughout the year.

Sooo if you are interested, please PM me with your email address so I can put together a list of people who are interested and I may send out an email or create a meetup.com group... or if you know of one already in existence in the area, please respond!!

Thanks! Good luck on everyone's NaNo goals!
Excerpts

To celebrate the halfway point, I posted a new excerpt! I've been checking out all of my friends profiles in hopes of finding something fun to read during my procrastination time with no luck. So, if you're up for it, please post an excerpt and then let me know here that you did so I can check it out! And if you have a free moment yourself, stop by my profile and check out mine!

I hope everyone's keeping up with their word counts! How's it going for you so far? I don't know about you but I'm very happy to know that we're halfway through this chaotic adventure! I miss sleeping. :)
Ten days later

It's ten days after the start of Nano and so far, you all are doing great! It's nice to look at the stats and see everyone moving forward. Keep it up!

Things are going pretty well for my novel. I'm working with an outline this year (the first time I've ever done this) and it seems to be helping me stay on track . . . though there have been a few new plot and character developments I hadn't originally planned for. But it's working for me.

So, are things going the way you expected them to? Any problems? Questions? Answers? *grin*

For those new to Nano, what do you think?

For those who've been here before, is this year better or worse for you than previous years?

Hope we all reach the 50,000 word goal!

Our New Co-ML

I am very pleased to announce that Joan, aka: writersblock has graciously agreed to work as an Elsewhere Arizona's Municipal Liaison with me! For the time being, her status is "unofficial" in that nanowrimo.org has not yet issued her an email address and clown nose. (I told you about the clown nose, didn't I Joan?) That will all come next year. However, as far as I'm concerned, she is as official as it gets right now!

So please give a warm welcome to Joan. And a big THANK YOU as well. It takes courage to set yourself up for more responsibility in the month of November.

Not to mention, the big red nose... :o)
