Anybody in Chiang Mai planning on doing Nanowrimo this year? I'm a two time contestant with one finish to my name. I'm interested in getting together with other writers ahead of Nov to get some feedback on my novel outline. I've recently finished my MFA in fiction and I've taught fiction workshops. I'm happy to work with other wrimos and offer high quality feedback.

good luck on the high wire,
Roman

Last year I wrote WHO MOVED MY UNDERWEAR?, but this time around I'm returning to my roots as a science fiction author. I have a truly horrid manuscript that I copyrighted back in 1985. I'll use it as a source of bits and pieces for my brand new book, PEGASUS, which has been at 2000 words and holding for at least 3 months. My editing schedule's gotten nuts, so I'm gonna let NaNoWriMo kick me in the pants again.

Good luck everybody!

hello and welcome!

My name is Anette and I am currently the Thailand ML, and we had a nice little group of writers Thailand wide last year and the year before.

We usually have 'electronic write-ins' by connecting on msn messenger, chat a bit, and then write for 30 mins or so. then we come back and compare word count, share stories of the good fight, commiserate, etc. It worked really well for us and I personally found it was great motivation.

For the last two years we also had a great writer from Chiang Mai, I'm hoping he'll show up again. He also writes Science Fiction!!
I wrote a murder mystery the first time and mainstream the second time.

looking forward to meeting more thai nanos!

I'm walking distance to the BTS. What stop is Chiang Mai, anyway? :-)

Your idea sounds great. I think support is a great way to get the job done, but when I'm writing, I don't expect to stay online. I was thinking about uploading once a day or so, 'cause if I'm connected to the 'Net, I'll get distracted.

This is my first WriMo, and the amount of writing I've accomplished this October preparing for it amazes me. I was planning on finishing my first draft by 1 Nov so I could redo outline, filling all those nasty plotholes that I fall into when I'm carelessly typing away, but I've already finished the first draft and updated my outline. I've fixed my characters so their personalities have the appropriate conflict I desire.

I'm ready to get started! Come on November!

Whoa, hang on! What'd I miss?

Hello, folks. The Sci-Fi Chiang Mai Writer reporting in. I would have dropped in earlier had it not been for me working on two manga projects and my graduation work. Really puts the hurt in on my brain...

Anyways, I might not be checking in for a while due to a slight complication. However, I will not allow myself to miss out on this year's NaNo like I did last year. (Truth is, I took too much time researching material that the novel ended up stagnant.) Right now I'm having a hard time deciding between an action-adventure story about monster-slayers and a biologist or something a little different concerning a comic-writer-to-be, a ghostwriter and a voice actress and their love triangle.

...OK, now I'm scared of myself.

I'm available for electronic write-ins as usual but if anyone wants to do a physical write-in, I can spare some time during mid-week when I don't have any classes. I'm in Chiang Mai University, so getting a ride shouldn't be too difficult. Red Cabs everywhere. Haha.

Alright, then. I should really be getting some rest. I'll talk to you all later!

Welcome back Raven!
I'm so pleased you are back and, well, so am I.
hmmm... I think it would be fun to think of you as a romance writer this year... XD!

On the other forum I suggest a first write-in (electronic) at midnight on 1 November. just to get us all going.
the powers that run nano swear up and down that the word count tool will work this time!!!

chat with you soon

At long last, I'm ready to post something. Only on the 14th day did I feel like I had something worth writing. Writing to you guys, that is. :-)

Tomorrow is the first of our three Saturdays, and I've been steadily churning out some (ahem) very good words every day since starting a week ago, but only now as I pass 20,000 words do I feel it's going to "work." It's a good feeling. I've been feeling nothing but stress, watching the days pass by and writing like a maniac, just wondering if I'll meet my self-imposed target of 70,000 words, wondering if I can successfully bridge the ending I've seen for about 25 years with the new beginning I began seeing earlier this year, and worrying always about the time, the time, and the time. Write a novel in a month? I must be nuts!

I wrote 4 novels in 2000. (Two decades of slush to get me started.) Another on Christmas evening 2001 (working fast) which I then lost. Travel story collection in 2003. The end.

Not quite. Last year, you guys kicked me in the pants and I turned some more slush into another travel story collection for NaNoWriMo 2007. Laid my hands on the "lost novel" in February 2008 and turned that into something which will be published next year. But now, my first novel since that heady Christmas in 2001, thanks to you guys again.

Sorry to ramble on so much, but this could be my only post, so what the heck? Before, all I could've posted was "Oh, this is hard. Oh it sucks. Oh, I wanna quit." You don't need to read that. You FEEL it. :-) Now, allow me this quick pre-celebration, and I'll go back to writing my book now. It's 6am and I feel the coffee kicking in. I woke up with the next three scenes in my mind, so I must write them.

Write on!

Stuck again? Here's how I deal with that. I decide "I've had enough." I put together a list of errands I need to run, and that's easy to do when you've been holed up in your home for days on end, missing the best weather Chiang Mai has all year. Then I jump on my bicycle and go to it.

Yes, I do bicycle in Chiang Mai. I haven't driven a motor vehicle since leaving the USA in December 1999. And no, I don't have a death wish. :-)

As I ride, I get ideas. I stop, whip that notepad out of my shirt pocket, scribble, keep riding. Repeat. Back home, errands done and mind clear again, I'll have about 4 scraps of nonsense to get into the computer file. Next thing you know, I've added 500 or so words, and the new ones flow again.

Short periods of writing, long periods of thinking. Unless the so-called muse grabs me, that is, and I churn out 5000 words in 2 hours. Good times.

If you see some nut wearing a yellow and pink head covering on a blue bicycle with a shopping basket strapped to the back, that's me. Write on!
