I figured we may as well bring this up early as I'm a chronic type A personality, mainly to see what everyone's scheduals are like. I know Ryan and I are both full time students and I help run a couple small businesses thusly evenings tend to work best for me (after 8).

. What about the rest of you?

Also, unless I remember incorrectly we did Barnes and Nobel one year, Borders last year...so what about this year? Shall we try another book store? If so, maybe we should consider sending them a letter with our dates so they can try to work up a bit of hype and maybe generate some new company for us lonely novelists!

Thoughts?

are there any privately owned bookstores with cafes around? If there are lets check those out, otherwise Borders would be good again. lets decide soon so i can contact them and let them know of our plans and maybe even get a flier posted.

I don't know of any indie bookstores with cafes. There might be some in the Old City, but I wouldn't be able to attend any meetings down there. So, my vote is for Borders.

Where is Borders? I don't live in Knoxville, it was just the closest group.

Carpe Librum in the Bearden area might work. They're a cool indie book store and I'm sure they'd be happy to host us. They're not open on Sundays, though.

I'd love to participate, but my work schedule is weird so I don't know if I'll be able to. Evenings are better for me usually, but not Tuesday evenings.

I've seen them, but never been there. I'll check it out this week and talk to them about it.

I write at Java in the Old City one day a week anyway, if anyone wants to meet up there.

I've never attended a write in. Do you meet once a week or what? Would it be okay if I brought my husband? It's an hour and a half drive for me and I hate making that drive alone. What do you all do at a write in - do you actually wrte or do you just sit around and talk about your process and problems, joys, issues, etc? Either way is fine - I'm just trying to picture what it's like.

we try and have one a week, doesnt always happen. sometimes we have more than one, but only if there's interest. and yeah, its perfectly ok if you bring your husband.

what generally happens is that we write and just talk about things, make challenges, enjoy caffeinated beverages and help each other with plot problems. Its very fun.

It sounds like lots of fun, but I don't think I'd be able to come to any. I live so far away from everything.

Oooh! I would like to nominate The Bent Corner bookstore, located in the same shopping center as Knoxville Wholesale Furniture. It's a fairly unknown, but wonderful bookstore with plenty of space to write in...plus really cheap books (if you need inspiration).

We could all just bring our own coffee and snacks. :)

Oooh, that's the shopping center at the end of Papermill, right? That's pretty close to where I live, so I might actually be able to come to some of these things in that case.. :D

Regardless.. college + lack of money + lack of car = difficult transportation arrangements. I'd like to be able to go to a write-in, but I don't know if I can... >_<;;

The only problem I forsee with that is the fact that a lot of bookstores don't like one to bring in snacks. Borders if fairly close to everything (The one near WestTown) and I don't mind making the drive from Oak Ridge.

Ah, good point.. If not for the food/drink issues, I'd avoid those bigger bookstores simply because they can become so crowded.. =/

Yea, the crowd can become an issue. On the other hand, it always cheers me up to think there are other literate people in the south. *G*

Since I have the dubious honor of living somewhere that is exactly 30 minutes away from pretty much everything, and I usually work very late on the weekends, the probability of me making it to the Write-Ins consistently is low...but I'd be willing to try every now and then, especially if we meet at Borders near West Town Mall. Anywhere else I probably can't make it, but if we go there once a week I might be able to attend, especially if it's later in the evenings.

Friday evenings are best for me. Saturday & Sundays, I'd have to make special arrangements at work since I'm usually there until at least 10pm, but it's doable. Also I need notice at least a week in advance so I can pass the word onto my supervisors scheduling-wise. The schedule at my workplace is created on Tuesday so, for example, my shifts have already been assigned for the week of 26th-1st. Also, anytime in the 9am-5pm bracket on weekdays is totally out. I'm either at work or stuck at home without a car.
