What's the status of the Alaska NaNo chatroom?
Is Jeano overseeing it this year? If not, is someone else going to post how to get connected to it?
(Is Jeano a ML this year?)
I pretty much remember how to do it, but I certainly needed help last year. Others may need help this year, especially newcomers.
Another thing. Last year, we posted our AIM names on a thread so that we could put everyone in our buddy lists. Then we would know who was available to chat with whatever time we logged into the chatroom, and sometimes we pulled each other in. Are we doing that this year?

Well, since anyone can open it anytime I guess it's technically up and running. ^^ I was just working on a set of instruction that I hope to get up in a few days, though at the moment I'm a bit stuck trying to remember how to access an aim chat room through Trillian.
I like the idea of us all posting our AIM usernames, I'd forgotten about it complete so thanks for bringing it up! It's definitely a good idea, so I'll get us started -

It was Alaska NaNo last year, I believe, and the year before that.
To get into one in trill, open a chat with someone in the same program, invite, and instead of their user name, type in your own. Instead of the automatically generated chat name, type in Alaska NaNo. Easy-peasy. In fact, I'm going to do it right now.
GoddessKatlyna02 is my AIM.
Edit: you can also go to the "Aim" icon, left click, go to "join a chat..." and type in your info and the chat room's name.

I'm KerianaWilliams, just like always~ |D I'm so original. I AM ONLINE A LOT but AIM disconnects me constantly, and sometimes Trillian hates me for having more than one chat open, so we will see how things go. >/

Alaska NaNo Chatroom Instructions
If you need help don't hesitate to ask!
The first thing you'll need is an aim username. These are easy to get, simply go to http://dashboard.aim.com/aim and click 'Get a Screen Name' in the upper right corner. If you want then download AIM, it's a fairly light program, but you don't have to.
The easiest way to join a particular chat in AIM and Trillian, that I've found, is to add your username to your buddy list. (Confusing yes, but go with me on this - you simply add it like you would any other username.)
When you want to join a chat simply right click your username and select 'Invite to Chat Room'(Trillian) or 'Send Chat Invitation'(AIM). In the chat room name field simply put in 'alaska nano', without the quotation marks.
This method seems to work fairly universally, so if you can't figure out how to get to an AIM chat room via your client of choice then give this method a shot.

OH, I'd like to add:
If you don't want to download anything, you can create an AIM screenname and then use www.meebo.com to chat. Getting into the chatroom involves the same basic principal; you invite yourself. It's all browser-based, however, so it's a nice save for people who can't run AIM or don't want to download it. =3

Yes, I'm MLing again this year, and we have many things to decide.....such as where and when for weekly meets....maybe a schedule for write-ins on AIM?
I love the idea of the free-floating Alaska Nano room that we had last year, where you could just go grab someone to have a quick challenge with. But it would also be cool if we made actual MEETS happen at specific times, and I could put them on the nano site calendar (or even on a handout?) so that we'd have definite times for meet ups online.
I will compile all the names and yes, I'll pull you in there if you can't get in yourself.
For Mac people you can use iChat. Or Adium. Advantage with iChat: you can turn on your camera and we can SEE each other! I love doing that!
I haven't received our swag yet, so I have to go look into that....and as usual I will have PRIZES......
