Welcome to Character & Plot Realism Q&A!

My name is karalianne, and I'm your moderator. I've been moderating this forum since 2006, so I'm pretty well-versed in how the forum works. The other moderators are Dragonchilde, who is in charge of all of the forums, and Limmenel, my co-moderator this year. Limmenel and I do our best to make Dragonchilde's job easier. See below for what Limmenel and I will be doing for you. :)

Quote:
For those who aren't sure: Character & Plot Realism Q&A is about realism and research; if you need help deciding how your plot should proceed, need help with basic characterization (including elimination of Mary-Sue characters), or need help choosing names for countries, cities, or characters, check out Plot Doctoring, and if you need help with other thing to do with writing, try Writing 101 (in Resources & Writing Support). If your post gets moved from this forum, it is because we think you will get more and better responses in the new location.

I am keeping things as simple as possible this year, so we haven't got very many rules. However, if you break them I will know you didn't read this post, and I will be very sad and disappointed. Please don't make me sad! I like to be proud of everyone who does NaNo!

RULE #1

  • Be respectful of others. This means don't call people names, don't use vulgar language unless absolutely necessary (I promise, it rarely is), don't make fun of people's questions or responses, and try to include a warning in your subject header if your post might contain explicit, profane, or triggering (e.g., cutting, suicide, PTSD) material.
  • Pursuant to this, if you spot someone being rude or otherwise inappropriate in the forum, press the "Report" button on their post. If someone posts erroneous information, it's okay to say that they're wrong, but don't call them names or anything like that. If you say someone got their facts wrong and they respond by attacking you, press the "Report" button on their post. The "Report" button is magic and will let Dragonchilde know that something untoward is going on. Then she can decide what the appropriate action is to take in the given situation.

RULE #2:

  • Use descriptive subject headers for your posts. Good subject header: Adopting from third-world country? Poor subject header: I need help.
  • Also, Search the forum before you make a new post. The odds are good that your question has already been asked, or that there's a thread about your topic already in full swing, and you can simply post your question there and get a response.

Okay, those are the rules for you guys. What about Limmenel and I? What will we be doing while you all play nice and ask questions and give answers?

Well, as the moderators, we have to read every single post that goes through this forum. It's a good thing I don't have a full-time job anymore! We'll both be keeping a close eye on any threads that have the potential to become explosive, so that we can close things down quickly if necessary. I will also update the list of threads that need replies a couple of times a day, because threads without replies are very sad threads. I like to try to make them happy. Limmenel and I are in constant contact, taking turns reading through the forum (to keep the load down for us both).

If you have any questions or comments about the forum this year, please do not hesitate to send either one of us a NaNoMail!

Happy writing, and may all your questions be answered in a timely manner! :)

Hi - I'm a newbie. I posted a request a few days back - as a new topic, I believe - looking to find people who have talked with local police about procedures in murder investigations. I can't find it and don't know how to go directly to it. Can you tell me what I did wrong?
Thanks

Most likely it was moved to Plot Doctoring. That's where most misplaced posts in the C&P forum end up.
