So... I have to say.. I had a moment while "All the Small Things" was going, when I sat back and saw all of you guys there, having a good time and I thought.... Wow.. This is really what Nano is all about... bringing together these people who wouldn't ever have had their paths cross in a meaningful way before but who so clearly should be hanging out because together we are the awesome.

We've got one month to gather together a hardy band of writers. One month to charge laptop batteries, stockpile comfort foods and caffeine, sharpen pencils, do some hand exercises to strengthen those fingers and wrists, put together some outlines, create some characters, immerse ourselves in the worlds we plan to explore in November.
Okay, probably most of us will spend the month doing what we normally do, maybe idly ponder what we might write next month, and then suddenly change gears on November 1st.
Whatever works for you!
The important part here is that this doesn't have to be a journey you take alone. Whether you want to meet in person or prefer contributing to the thread here, I will personally guarantee that your Nanowrimo experience will be more rewarding for having done it.
Now I suppose you might ask... How do I get started?
Post here and introduce yourself. I'll give you some questions to get you started, but please don't limit yourself to answering these!
Are you new to Nanowrimo? Or perhaps Oakville? What genres do you like to write? To read? Do you write year-round or are you a November Novelist? Do you have a story in mind for Nanowrimo this year already? Oh, and do tell us something about yourself that *isn't* writing-related. Perhaps you have a family who may or may not be supporting your November adventure - maybe you have a fascination with all things Victorian or with baking pies or with hockey or science fiction television shows.

This is my fourth year (3 win, one fail) and I've been in Oakville longer than that. I generally write fanfic, and read pretty much everything, with emphasis on fantasy (vampires). And I am hoping for some new additions to last years 'band of writers' because right now I've just awkwardly introduced myself to people who know me.

Okay, my own introduction.
I'm 27, and this will be my seventh Nanowrimo. I've won 4 times - in odd years, and 2008, and I've lost 2 times, 2004 and 2006. Thanks to the Oakville team last year for helping motivate me to break the even-year losing streak!
I have a horrendous work commute, I have recently developed a fondness for baking cookies, and I own way too many unread books and unwatched DVDs. I'm writing a YA Fae story right now, and am probably going to write a Zombie story in November with some romance in it. I'm still not 100% sure if I'll try to write it with a serious tone or go for something a little more.... silly.
My can't-miss-it tv show this season is Castle, I wish I had been born with copper-colored hair, I play D&D, have a board game addiction (Arkham Horror!), and I love making lists. :)

Today we picked up... Pandemic, Dominion, Descent (omg the pieces!) and Androids. So quite a few to add to the collection. Our biggest problem is that the groups that we usually game with all live in Toronto, so it's awkward for them to get out to us to play very often. Must find house in Toronto!

I remember in university, we would take the stack of cards, and give ourselves 2 minutes to see how many cards we could get through. And we would only use the 'difficult' category.

I will be writing with my established band of merries ... it is a murder mystery set in and around a big city marathon.
Every year, I do "research" on a particular topic (last year was wine country ... very satisfiying). This year it is a marathon. I've been ground crew for friends who do this nutty level of running. To get into the spirit, however, I took up running and Oct 25 will compete in my first 5K race. : ) Nothing like some realism to get the juices flowing.
My biggest issue at the moment is to find a "picture" for my homicide cop. He is european, dark hair ... but I need a picture ... a face ... to pull it all together ...
