So here I am at work, with no actual work to do and nice shiny new NaNo forums to play with. What to do? Find people in my area of course!

So hey! I'm Suzanne (although I also respond to the name 'Kal' online), I'm 22 and this is my seventh NaNo and I've won all six previous years. I live in Watford but only moved there in June this year. My boyfriend finished uni then and we wanted to move south so we found a house to rent. I'm from Manchester originally and that's where I NaNo'd last year.

I tend to lean towards the horror side of things although this years plot has yet to reveal whether it's going to be very horrific or not (I'm working on it.)

I don't really know many places in Hertfordshire beyond Watford at the moment but I'm always happy to attend write-in's and meets if more knowledgeable people can organise them :) I am very good at finding places I don't know. I love attending write-in's and meeting other Wrimo's.

Hope to talk to you guys later *wave*

Kal/Suzanne x

Hi Kal!

I'm Katy, and I'm based a little further north in Stevenage. I've done Nano on and off since 2004, and write all year round anyway.

I'd love to meet up for a write in - I've done a few in the past and they're great fun (although the ones in the pubs in Cambridge were less word county than the others...) I do, however, have an 8 month old daughter, so need to persuade my husband to baby sit!

Very excited to be nanoing again this year!

K

Ooh I'd love to do a write-in in a pub! Haha! It'd be fun :) When I lived in Lancaster, the write-in's up there took place in this fantastic little cafe which blended anything into a milkshakes and made the most devine smoothies ever. I think they looked forward to November when we showed up, spending lots of money on lots of calories. Was incredible fun though!

Ooo, where in Lancaster is that? I went to university there, many years ago...

Snap! That's why I was in Lancaster :) I graduated from Lancaster Uni in 2008. The cafe's alled Juicafe. It opened in... erm... 2006 I think. Or was it 2007.... one of the two. I remember it opening 'cause my friends and I got accosted by this lovely woman handing out free samples of a chocolate bar blended into a milkshake on Market Street and we were so impressed we hunted out the cafe afterwards. It was on Cable Street (across from the bus station) but it's moved premises recently to be more in the town centre. It's a fantastic little place.

Just roaming the forums, but have you checked into the one for Lancaster (or whatever's closest) and mentioned the cafe? MLs are always on the lookout for great places that are Wrimo-friendly, and if we get to give them business and become repeat customers, even better!

*grins* Thanks for the look in, but the current ML for Lancaster was at the first official Lancaster write-in a couple of years back at that very cafe. They've already arranged their write-in's there again for this year (overly organised people that they are!) Appreciate the input though :) thanks.

Hi, I'm Zoë and am in Hatfield.
This year will be my fourth NaNo, and hopefully third win.

Work permitting, I'll hopefully be trying to organise at least a couple of write-ins. Last year we had a couple at Moccachino's coffee shop in Welwynn Garden City (Hi again Katyjo) which seemed to be a good place, so I might go with there again if no one has any problems.

Moccachino's was lovely last year - more than happy to head there again! As long as I can persuade my husband to babysit...

Hi! Second Nano here, haven't won yet, but hoping to get a good chunk done before real-life-stress derails me again. Living in Knebworth, working in Stevenage, and would be willing to join a writing event if I can get the time! :-)

Sounds good to me! :) I can easily drive up there.

Also in Stevenage, and might make it to a write-in. A lot depends on where I am in the word count and whether what I'm working on at that point is write-in friendly or the kind of thing where I need to scatter papers all around and scribble on walls.

Hi Everyone,

I'm in Hemel and this is my first nano so I'm currently busy panicking about things like trying to decide what to write about, outlining plots etc.
Looking forward to giving it a go though!

Well, they would probably object to wall scribbling, but I'm sure anywhere that we do a write in will have lots of serviettes available for filling with notes and scattering about the table.

Welcome to NaNo! Don't worry about it :) there's lots of people around here to help you out if you get stuck. When it comes down to it, just write and see where it takes you.

Hi all,

I'm in St. Albans, and nervously anticipating the WriMo. I tried a few years ago but got hopelessly stuck with no momentum: I'm trying to build some sort of plan (or at least destination) this year so I have something to pull me along.

I'm keen on the idea of write-ins, but I can be terribly shy at short notice :)

Hi,

This is my first WriMo, and so I figure I need all the help that I can get. I actually live in Ilkley in Yorkshire, but I work in Stevenage, and so I live there Monday to Wednesday nights. I'd be very interested in anything that was going on in the area on those evenings, particularly if it was reachable by train from Stevenage :)

Cheers,

Ian

Welcome to NaNoWriMo :) I was up near Ilkley the other week. I had a couple of days training for work in Otley. Nice area.

Ilkley to Stevenage. That's one heck of a commute.
I'm actually from Yorkshire originally myself (Eldwick, so just across the moors from you).

I don't know about what anyone else might organise, but unfortunately chances are that any write-ins that I can organise will probably end up being on a Saturday or Sunday, since the place that I'm currently thinking of for them (Mochachino's in Welwyn G. C) isn't really open during the evening, and I assume most folks here are probably unavailable due to work during weekday afternoons.

Although if I'm wrong about that and everyone can do weekday afternoons please let me know and I'll see if I can figure out the best times/days etc.

Saturday or Sunday in Welwyn work well for me, but I could theoretically do something on a weekday evening, but Stevenage would be best for me for that.

Would be great to get some write ins sorted!

At the moment evenings and weekends are all I can do. Weekends would be better though.

I'm new to Stevenage, so I'm curious: Where are the places that are good to sit and write? I'm not proposing Stevenage as a location for meet-ups necessarily, but just asking because when I lived in the US and participated in NaNo I used to have some great solo writing sessions in coffee shops. Is that just not likely to happen in Stevenage?

I'm in Hoddesdon, so not far from Stevenage or Hatfield, though I'd have to get hubby or son to drive. Weekends (Sat or Sun pm) would be best for me. This is my 4th Nano, and I've won once. Encouragement from like-minded people who don't think this writing madness is incomprehensible would be good fun!

In the day time, one of the branches of Costa Coffee would probably be ok, if you don't mind buying a coffee from time to time. I'm not a Stevenage expert, but I can't really think of anywhere in Stevenage to go and sit and write quietly of an evening, either alone or as a write-in venue.

Hi Hertfordonians! ;)

NaNoWriMo virgin here but very excited to participate this year! I am an American Expat living in Hertford. (Husband and I moved here from Hitchin originally). I have 6 month old twins so I imagine that will add to the challenge even more but, going to go at this full force (or as much as possible anyway!).

As for writing in stevenage, there is a nice Costa Coffee next to the craft store, Hobby Craft (I think)?

Would love to attend the meet ups! Welwyn seems like a good location. Looking forward to hearing about everyone's writing adventures.

This is my first NaNoWriMo, and I have to admit I'm a little worried as to what I have gotten myself into. I'm guessing that a write-in is meeting up to write together and encourage each other?

Pretty much yeah :) it's just a chance to interact with other Wrimo's. From my experience, some people bring laptops and use it as a writing event and others just come along to socialise and take a break from writing. But everyone's welcome.
